Sam Allison now refs in the Championship which shows how bad the standard is across the board.

All we ask for is just one normal week of Notts.

. I will maintain that Foster jumped forward on the whistle though.

Who's be a referee eh?
From the laws of the game on the FA website.

The defending goalkeeper must remain on the goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts until the ball is kicked.

Yeah that's what I meant not the whistle.

But then again in almost every penalty the keeper jumps forward slightly before diving. The Notts Keeper was doing it in their play off game.

He wasn't - Mair was doing the modern 'keeper thing of stepping forward with one foot but dragging his other behind so it was still behind/on the line when the ball was kicked. It's a VAR thing I think where young 'keepers are now taught to do that or it'll just be retaken, probably a reflection of Foster being more old school and not having played much (or at all?) since VAR came in and knowing that if you went a bit early you'd usually get away with it. Would definitely have been retaken with VAR, both feet were well in front of the line when it was kicked, but such is life. :D

Can’t begin to imagine how long this thread would be if Notts had been denied the penalty we were last Tuesday against Wrexham . . .

In retrospect (after we won the game) I always enjoyed the bitter irony of the game at our place last season where Notts County scoring directly from a free kick that came when Rodrigues tripped over his own foot. They never mention that. Or the eleven marginal offside calls (some blatantly wrong) that went against us in that game with our paid off officials.
I think the ref in our play off game must’ve got paid off by both of us as he fucked up on every big decision.

It's substantially aided by English Red knowing more about Notts than 34% of all Notts fans.

Unsurprisingly I was at Wembley for the thrilling playoff final and have seen that penalty shootout live and in person and multiple times since to relive what was a stressful but awesome day(& week) and I had no idea where Magic Man Mair's feet were compared to the line. At least one devoted Wrexham fan seems to think he knows.

What I remember more was that incredible athletic save with his high trailing foot. Magical.

Or that Flint header that was over the line at Walsall on Saturday.

Not really sure how it’s been missed, that’s 3/4 we’ve had at least in as many seasons. Can’t tell on the still picture but the video is clear as day, do championship clubs have goal line technology? If so surely all the EFL should have.

Years of experience have taught me not to be optimistic about Rovers. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing, but I’m guessing that you weren’t that confident about the outcome pre-match either, as you didn’t post about going to beat Stockport before the game? Accept that the SWA is a broad church, there’s no reason that I wouldn’t be delighted with the win, even if unable to be present. The highlights show some real quality in our attacking play, although the pivotal moment arguably a great save from McGee just after h/t when we were only one goal up

FGR next, no idea but the game becomes less significant because of Saturdays results.

Finally a nice stat to share, after yesterday’s goal, Connor Jennings currently has scored more in L2 this season than Paul Mullin.

I’ll admit I didn’t see a 4-0 win coming but I didn’t think to write us off. It’s more the mood in the relegation thread prior to Saturday’s result suggesting we could feasibly get drawn into a relegation battle when, since games played since NA got appointed permanent manager, we’re third.

That said we are an incredibly unpredictable side at the moment! Had we hung on v Morecambe for 3 points and beaten Donny away which we probably deserved to do then we’d be in the playoff conversation!

We had the opposite happen to us in the National League away at Altrincham, they got given a goal and the ball was half on the line and half in front of the line, not one part of the ball was anywhere near over the line.
Lost that one 2-1, I was a bit pissed off.

Been to quite a few games when he was man-in-the -middle and have never complained.
Good luck to the guy.

We never seem to do the business at Walsall.

Did not go to the match, and been out of the loop so no idea how accurately the score line reflects the game.

Artell is terrible. I really wish Grimsby would just get rid of him, get someone who can grind some results out until the end of the season and cast their net out in the summer.

The defence is an absolute joke. Listening to our pod last night and it said we've faced something like 29 shots on target in 2024 and conceded 21 goals. The chances we're giving teams are just absolute sitters. We're not even bad going forward but at the back it's just a complete horror show.

The plan seems to be to push all our Artell chips in and hope that the wheel doesn't land on a catastrophic FGR/ Sutton odd/even black/red and then have an overhaul in the summer. It's a very risky plan and I dread to think what's going to happen if it backfires.

I just don't think that much of him though, think he's a bit of a spoofer. I don't really see a big uplift next season under him. It could be a blessing in disguise to be having such bad results now so the hand is forced to sack him, hopefully you manage to sail far enough away from the wind to stay up and you can have a re-think in the summer.

I like the idea of playing nice football of course, but I'm certainy not as wedded to it as the vast majority of Town fans who called for Hurst's head were at the time. I was fine riding out the storm under El General as history dictates that he'd have taken us out of that dip a stronger unit.

However, among the unacceptable shite that Artell we've also seen some really good football. Whole halves of it...in fact on a couple of occasions we've taken the likes of Salford and Crewe to the sword very impressively for the majority of entire matches. If those performances can be unlocked on a regular basis, even if that takes a year or two to get there with tangible incremental improvements along the way then it's arguably worth it. Looking past conceding 5 twice and 6 once at home in recent weeks along with ignoring the red flags that the Crewe fans told us about during his later months is proving to be nigh on impossible for the vast majority of our supporters right now though. And rightly so. Artell is barely acknowledging the trouble we are in let alone seemingly having to perception to contextualise that he's addressing a set of fans that have watched their club slip in non-league football twice in the last couple of decades.
