We weren't conceding 5 goals regularly and we deserved to go up. I don't know where you got the impression from on here that we were shite..
By watching you.

We conceded 5 against Barnet last season but still won that game. Our shite defence is nothing new.

We finished top-half last season and have a top-half budget - we should be better than we are.

We probably have to pay more than say another North West based team would do to get players to actually come to us though. When you compare our squad to others it isn't a top ten squad IMO.

Holohan had one tipped over the bar as well towards the end of the first half after a lovely move which was arguably a better chance/move than any of yours bar the DKD one on one.

And the Bowery shove was a straight red preventing a goal scoring chance, not sure what there is to argue against there! He's got the ball under control.

Regardless of those two though you were definitely the better side, but I'd expect that from a strong automatic promotion fave that has only had to make minor tweaks in the market vs a potential playoff challenger that has made wholesale changes. Decent point for both sides all in all, I'd say.

Adam wouldn’t know mate as he was buying too many pints at that time in the bar underneath

It’s way off being a top ten squad - that’s the point. Our expectations should be to at least match last season though, so it’s not arrogant to think that’s do-able.

Poor today. Unambitious I thought which surprised me. Heard Wild's interview before the game, no pressure, underdogs, just go there and have a go etc. Really thrives on being the underdog. Would that attitude get him a job at a bigger club elsewhere? Will the Barrow fans get a bit bored of that rhetoric?

To be honest, performances as bad as that have been few and far between. Normally that’s the rhetoric but we come away with a result or at least have a go - yesterday was just awful.

Spending on what though?

The only place you look weak on paper is up top and you score shitloads even with Mullin missing.

Surely it’s the tactics that need a tweak?
We're scoring loads but just like conceding loads, that will not continue. We still need a striker who is top at this level to go with Mullin I think.

We're currently playing a youngster up front who wasn't deemed good enough to play a single match in the National League last season, it just feels very weird.

I think we need a proper holding midfielder, that's where most of the problems lie. We also need to start playing our best defenders, which would help a lot. Yesterdays carnage was all down to the team selection, Parkinson needlessly changed the side from Tuesday.

I wasn't suggesting they'd get rid of him, he's done well for Barrow and they'll be mid table this season but he's often talked about as an upcoming manager. I thi
Wnk he'd probably be linked with the Bradford job for example if they were to dispose of Hughes. He'd have to really re-think his underdog approach there. They were a threat last season, I just thought they were terrible today in terms of ambition. Maybe a one off.

Wild has been linked with us in the past. He was favoured by a fair few bantam fans.

I'm not so sure myself. Did well at Halifax and doing well at Barrow, but just don't see him being a fit here, where the expectations of a big fanbase would probably overwhelm a manager who is used to being the underdog.

I've had enough of Mr negative Hughes now, in fact I lost it with him after our feeble playoff surrender at Carlisle.

A lot of our fans would want ex player Darren Moore, me included. However, despite his link to us, I doubt he would drop to league 2.

You score 5 goals and concede 5 goals and your initial thought is ‘we need another striker to sort this madness out’

Goodness me.

One defender won’t change much for Wrexham. The unit is slow and cumbersome. Sure, it was a pisser not winning yesterday but I know who I’d rather be going forward.

To be fair, our best player by a country mile is out injured and guess what position he plays...

Lots of posts about Wrexham again I see. Thank you all for your concern.

We don't really need to sign anyone new apart from possibly a midfielder (which was the case last season as well) but our problems currently are key players being injured. Hayden is a quicker defender who we are badly missing. Tunnicliffe - who would get into most teams in this division. And obviously Mullin. McClean would also make a difference at the moment.

Yesterday most would agree Parkinson picked the wrong players - Swindon are a good side (offensively at least) and we needed a player in midfield who would compete with them, we played three attacking midfielders and particularly in the first half were out fought and just overrun in midfield. Barnett and Mendy are good going forward but neither are particularly good defensively and they got around us again and again - particularly on the left. Even so we restricted them to a lot fewer chances than they've been making in their other games - it's just the chances they did carve out were generally pretty good ones and they were clinical. Foster, for all the criticism, didn't have much of a chance with any of them. Tozer is looking ponderous which as he is the spare defender is a bit of a problem.

I'm not that worried. We are four games in, and we will improve. All of your creaming yourself about us being relegated are going to be disappointed I'm afraid.

Nobody seriously thinks Wrexham will get relegated.

Wrexham guaranteed to improve , significantly I would suggest, but that doesn't take away a poor start to the season. But seasoned supporters know that you can't judge any teams start until at least half a dozen league games. I'm old so favour 10. But folks new to football can get exciting, worried of take the piss after just a few if they want.

Nobody should be surprised that the promoted clubs are scoring lots and conceding lots. If you are, shame on you.

Literally no one has said they think you’ll be relegated, no one’s even said they think you’ll be in trouble.

Thats a fair Kop. We are pretty hoofy at times. I think when Mullin is back you'll see a bit less, but we are pretty direct.
You remind me of Lincoln of a few years back.

OK that is true. Now I think of it the relegation posts are all on our own forum from all the level headed posters on there.

Indian Dan that's a pretty fair comparison.

Tbh I'd rather be a team coming back from 4-1 down than a team who bottled that lead.

You're right about our back line though, a snail could get in behind us I reckon. Hayden needs to come back in, at least he can run.

Wrexham will get promoted.

Not really got going yet. Not many other sides in this division would get something from a game they were 3 goals down in.

What a shocking first half that was yesterday. The first goal was a total gift and I'm really not convinced one bit by Harvey Davies. How much time do you give him? Almost every goal he's conceded this season has been incredibly soft. Second goal was an excellent hit by a Walsall side that actually turned up in the first half whilst we were pissing about looking like we'd been on the piss the night before.

I'm more of the opinion that we looked incredibly Sunday League in the first half more than Walsall playing scintillating football though. Every pass in the midfield was going to a white shirt. Walsall, though nothing special in my eyes, looked a competent League Two outfit and that's all they had to be to race into a deserved 2 goal lead at the break. Still, I was confident we wouldn't lose that game at half time. I knew we'd perform better second half and our record against Walsall has been so good over the years I always felt we had a chance of getting something.

Second half we were slow out the blocks but from the 60th minute we looked like a very good League Two side going forward and overwhelmed Walsall at times. Slowcoach Daniels, appealing for an offside when Nevitt was so far on it was unreal, looked the poor player I remembered him as when with us and got done by an excellent Tracey through ball to Nevitt who finished with aplomb. Lovely to see him gain such confidence and hopefully he can bag a few more. I felt Long and Nevitt bullied Walsall's back line after that goal but the ineffective wingers and midfield kept wasting possession when given the ball.

I'd said all game I was frustrated by us not testing Owen Evans. Despite being a big presence in goal, I've always seen him as a keeper that can drop a clanger every now and then. And those thoughts were justified at the death. A collective failure from Walsall cost them two points. They expected the long throw, no one picked up Powell, the ball was menacing, Walsall very disorganised, Evans totally unconvincing and it missed everyone and went in. Made all the more sweeter thanks to Evans' timewasting as well.

We had other chances in that second half. Demetriou very unlucky with that header comes to mind. But we ended up getting a point which you always take at 2-0 down. Problem is, I'm sick of seeing us go 2-0 down. We have the players and brand of football to really hurt teams. Yet suicidal keeping and defending is preventing us from achieving our full potential. We need at least 3 bodies in before the next home game as that midfield is already lightweight with no Colkett and Thomas available.

I personally think us and Walsall will be two solid mid-table sides this season. Neither will be troubling the Top 7 but I also don't see us in the relegation scrap either.

Time to revisit some pre-season predictions for which I was berated for. The first one being from Feb 2023 too so I've earnt a record points award for that one alone...

I've said it before and I'll no doubt say it again but Wrexham won't be steamrollering this division with Parkinson in charge and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the playoff winner isn't the team that finishes 2nd or 3rd. The one legged higher finishing team format sounds like it favours the 2nd to 5th in theory, but I reckon Notts and Wrexham would have stood a better chance vs us last season over two legs.

Predicting a turbulent second term for Hughes culminating in his dismissal midway through the season and Wild to get poached after another good start seeing Barrow slide down the table.

Yep, I'm pretty well versed in Wrexham and I'm sticking to my much repeated stance (until they do some business) that they'll be up there but there won't be a steamrollering of the division. I think there'll be some Wrexham/Notts fans unpleasantly surprised by how much of a turgid slog this division is. Far less football is played up here on account of the 55 minutes per match of players going down with fake head injuries. You can kiss goodbye to 35 shots and being on the ball for anything like 30 minutes per match, those are monthly stats in this division.

Having said that a few more fourth tier galactico signings for the new sensibly ran Notts and it'll be you lot that we're having this debate about as well.
