Yeah that’s a howler, given the lad far left of the screenshot off. Ahhh well, long old season.
You sure it's him who's been given offside? I've just watched it back and whilst the camera doesn't show Austin's starting position as he's offscreen, he looks offside. Could it him who the lino has flagged?

Jesus fucking wept. Sorry Cods fans, a dodgy handball goal against a stinking the place out shit Grimsby does not make up for that.
Woah woah it's nobody else's fault that you lot wasted four free hits on us. Your goal today has chalked one of them off, so you're still due three sacrificial howlers from the L2 gods.

The ref told Maynard it was Brown who touched it. He didnt, the turkeys in charge dropped an oversized bollock.

Maynard asked the ref afterwards and he said they’d flagged Brown (the one in shot) offside as they thought he touched the ball. You can’t see on the camera, but my instinct at the time was that Austin had ghosted in from miles onside - pretty sure he was deeper than Brown.

The only other possibility is they’ve flagged Austin offside from an invented touch from Brown before he taps it in. Which might explain the delay, I think, and would’ve been a great spot I guess had Brown not missed it completely.

Delicious sweet tears. This Notts County meltdown is nearing Chesterfield levels. 'Could have easily won 4-1', brilliant :fl: :fl: :fl: :fl:
Steady, I think they're taking it pretty well to be fair. Game panned out exactly how I thought it would, sounds like we had a little rub of the green to win it rather than draw but that happens in football, we take the win and move onto another 1st v 2nd encounter next weekend - which will already be our third of the season!

I fancied you for promotion from the off and think you're going up, you've all the attributes needed. Good manager, squad depth, well drilled, tight defence and goal threat.
Result a bit harsh on us but it happens.

I heard Notts manager having a mard live on Radio Nottingham about Jodi Jones being booted earlier, what happened?

Limped off at the end, didn’t look great. Ironically the tackle that actually got him was a great one tbf, took the ball clean but think a bit of contact after that so hopefully just an impact one. He’s just getting booted all game every game this season, Gillingham’s left side actually did a really good job on him, but they both got booked in doing so.

I think everyone knows what our issue was last season and we seem to have addressed it with a genuine goal threat, and likewise Notts seem to have addressed their major issue from last season so it could end up being a decent year for the pair of us.

Seen enough from us this season to think we’re in with a shout, I think it’s obvious we need Jones, Crowley and Jatta fit and firing consistently - and still cautious Gills, Donny, MK and Vale are still 4 teams on paper that could just rattle off wins if they get going but somethings gone quite badly amiss if we’re not in the top 7 at the end of the season.

I don't rate Barrow at all.

They are so far the worst team I've seen us play this season so it's no suprise we beat them.

The only decent things about Newport today were;-
1) their keeper had a great game.
2) their manager was honest and didn't make the usual excuses and admitted they were beaten by a better team on the day.

Newport were totally toothless, not one shot (on or off target) in the entire match.

How were we really poor? What defines our 2-0 win today as poor??

It was a good away win ffs. We defended well, took our chances and showed spirit.
We were poor. You were ok and set up for a 0-0 which then exceeded your expectations. A TEN minute delay for an injured linesman who still managed to walk the width of the field killed the momentum that we had created. A bad day at the office!

Barrow have got some really decent players. The test will come through the winter, when fixtures and injuries pile up. Do they have enough depth to maintain it? I'm hoping we've finally addressed our depth. It made a big difference for us today, as Accrington were knackered and we brought some decent players off the bench. Another 5 minutes and we win that.

Been a long time since we could throw on the likes of Ronan Curtis, Ryan Croasdale and Ruari Paton on… beats throwing on the likes of Ryan Loft to try and rescue a situation!

Barrow are decent the second best team I have seen so far tbf behind Notts , Chesterfield a bit behind those 2 but decent . Cheltenham looked like they might struggle to me but who knows . Think Bromley will do ok probably lower mid table but will pick up plenty of points.

Onto Carlisle & Gillingham next for us would be haply with a point from those 2 tbh tough games , even if Carlisle haven't started so well .

Best performance from us at home in well over a year. Everyone who started was brilliant yesterday and my agenda that Max Sanders kills us whenever he plays for us is substantiated further.

We played a beleaguered side at home two weeks ago and looked like we were overrun in midfield at times. We played another one away last week and the midfield were better but gave the ball away constantly. We played a side who had just beaten Doncaster in their last game and we dominated the midfield after dropping Sanders and going more attack-minded in our line-up and look what we've produced.

Good to see Hemmings bag two and Lankester get his first for the club. Good to see Fil Marschall get another clean sheet too. I was incredibly sceptical of us signing him but maybe, just maybe, MK's Swiss cheese defence was the reason he had a poor spell there. Whereas our defence has been rock solid (Chesterfield game apart) for the majority of this season.

Harrogate were very poor. Offered barely anything until the last 10 minutes where they actually forced Marschall to make a trio of excellent saves. But that was the only spell they had where they actually looked like being a threat in front of goal. The LB, Gibson, was very lucky not to be sent off and the manager knew it as he was subbed at half time. Thought the tackle on Demetriou when the ball was easily going out of play was very cowardly as well. Incredibly uninspiring performance, they looked like mid-table National League cloggers. Gonna be a long, hard season for them I think.

4 wins in a row now but that was the first one where our performance felt at the high levels of last season after 3 laborious showings against inferior opposition on paper. I genuinely think we'll make it 5 at Newport next week too!

I thought they were as a expected very well organised and once in the lead defended well but they didn't handle Crowley and especially Jones very well. Jones was best player on the pitch. Agree other three midfielders were average.

Goal shouldn't be disallowed and very often isn't but those two sitters missed were the difference between a win and a loss.

Still that's football, shit happens, overall was a good game between two good sides.
Nearly 15k there for you that must be your largest crowd for a long long time ?

I really don't know how to judge us at the moment.

At half-time I said it was the typical Cheltenham peformance for this season - no shortage of effort but lacking massively in the quality department.

Defensively we're quite sound - whilst Chesterfield dominated the game, they had very few shots on goal - save for pot shots from outside the box (and Dobra's absolute sitter of course). The biggest issue is in creativity - we're dependant upon mistakes by the other team. Like yesterday when the keeper decided to help us out by coming a million miles off his line.

Injuries in our wing-back/full-back areas are starting to become an issue now though. Haynes is out for 3-4 months, and AJB did his hamstring in scoring our equaliser.

Hopefully it's not too bad, but we're slowly working things out. Lower mid-table looks likely.

Your number 8 is not even in that shot so it is difficult to tell. By the time the camera brings him in to shot he is level with our keeper and well behind our defence. I think he actually puts it in, but is at least interfering.

It was a strange game, Notts had 3 shots on target to our 5 but some of their shots off target were down to pretty poor finishing, so I would say we were lucky to win but they were not particularly unlucky to lose.

I think Maynard needs to order extra shooting practice next week.

Notts will definitely be involved in the promotion race as they have clearly recruited well and are much better than when we beat them 3-1 at their place last season. I think we knew that anyway.

As for Jones, he must be one of the best in the division but does throw himself to the ground a lot although he was not particularly bad yesterday.

Doubt I will see a worse game of football all season anywhere than what was on show at Valley Parade yesterday.

Wimbledon's land of giants will be a difficult team to beat for sure.

The scuffle involving 21 players in the 90th minute probably the most exciting thing to happen.

Our only 2 fit central defenders loanees Jack Shepherd and Chiek Diabate, impressed for us, in a game where both defences were on top all game.

We got lucky with the shot that hit both posts, however, on another day, a different ref, and we could easily have had 1, if not 2 penalties.

2 more injuries meaning we now have 5 defenders and 3 midfield players out injured.

I will be very surprised if you aren’t top 7 at least come the end of the season.
Best team we have played this season.
The two you missed in the first half looked easier to score than miss.
But, as I said in an earlier post, we are nothing if not resilient. It wasn’t a total backs to the wall job either. We knew we would have long spells without the ball, County are so good at ball retention, but we did look positive when we had possession, in fact I think we had more shots on target than Notts.
Most of the County fans on here have said it was a good, professional away performance, an assessment that I think is fair, and thanks for that.
Anyway, I hope Jones injury isn’t too bad and if you play like that each week, with a modicum of luck you will be thereabouts.
As for us, when Bonner has a full squad with the likes of Masterton, Coleman, Dieng, Andrew’s and Dack to chose from he is going to have a nice selection problem.

Yeah impossible to tell from the replay but I thought Austin ran from deeper at the time. There were a lot of Notts fans saying your goal was offside, I thought he was on live but can't tell that from the replay either!

It's absolutely ridiculous tbh. I optimistically predicted we would get around 12,000 but to get the reported 14,700 is almost unbelievable as a Notts fan of any age. Nobody predicted over 14,000!

Actually not as long as you would think we got over 16,000 against FC Hollywood just last season but they had a considerably bigger away following..

Prior to that our attendances over 15,000 whilst in non league were the result of cheap ticket offers as we broke the National League record.

But we only used to take 500 odd to Grimsby so it all balances out.

The injury situation is worrying. Wimbledon looked play off contenders to me. This is 4th tier football and they look well equipped for it. Big, athletic, fit, organised and masters of the dark arts. Their games need strong refs but they know there are non in this division. Never really understood why a foul any where else on the field is not a foul in the penalty area.
