Was the Welsh one the one when your entire team surrounded and hounded the ref for about 2mins? Is that what you mean by being savvy? Not surprised at all.
As I understand it the red card doesn’t get removed from a players record regardless of the FA panel decision. Dan Butler got a straight red last season v Notts County. Cheating little fucker Tootle went down like a sack of shit after little contact from Butler, we appealed and the auto 3 game suspension was removed. Red card stays on his record and Fair Play table.
The FA panel can do as they wish and meet to decide mainly on the suspension length. They can remove / reduce the suspension, increase it or leave it the same.
The fact of the matter from Saturday was that Thomas’ foot was high and it made contact with Forbes’ head, right in front of the ref who went straight to his pocket. Foot doesn’t need to be at head height and obviously a dismissal can be warranted even if the injured player is not in the eye line of the offender. I don’t think the angle the Grimsby fans had on the day or the one shown in the highlights gave the full picture.
Forbes wasn’t behind Thomas, he came in from the side and it’s reasonable to assume, from the panels perspective, that he was in Thomas’ peripheral and / or being reckless.
Not a terrible career ending challenge by any means but in today’s game refs will give a red.
I have some sympathy with the Grimsby fans but that’s more to do with the direction that the governance of our beautiful game is going - game is more like basketball at times not that I want 22 Rheads hammering shit out of each other either.
At the moment it would appear that Grimsby are being a bit dull. 3 reds in 4 league games. Welsh could’ve received a straight red on Saturday too for the 2 footed challenge on Bakinson who was giving him the run around. Seen worse get a red card. The Thomas and Welsh challenges give refs a chance to make a decision. Grimsby need to be more savvy.
Anyway pob lwc for the rest of the season. I’m sure we’ll get a warm welcome in the reverse fixture.
