We've only managed three points from Cambridge, FGR, Exeter and Fleetwood, three of those at home, and that's slightly concerning given that we're likely to be in and around all four come the end of the season and with Accy next up, we need to be winning that.

No surprise that as soon as Walsh is semi-fit, he comes on at HT, Poole goes to RB and Kennedy hooks Eyoma who's been horrendous so far this season. He already doesn't fancy either of our full backs and I can't blame him tbh.

Kennedy for some reason wants to keep putting Bishop on the left or right of a front three, despite his best performances coming in CM and then plays House, who was a non-league striker last season, in CM instead, which is baffling.

We're currently having to play an out of sorts RB, arguably a CB who's a better option at RB but we can't play him there because we only have two fit CB's, our other CB realistically is 5th choice, our LB options are the young lad Roughan or Robson who can't adapt to English football from Scotland, playing a non-league striker in midfield alongside definitely one, perhaps two, ineffective CM partners. But then I look at our injury list - Montsma, Jackson, Walsh (until Saturday), Mandroui, Sanders and Garrick and 5 of those 6 would be in our starting XI and I wonder why we're in this position.

A concerning start to the season, further highlighted by what should have been an ok start to the season with a mix of opponents.

Suspect the Cambridge player will get a retrospective ban for that elbow to Hopper? Only seen a clip of it once but seemed a pretty clear cut red?

Yep I’d assume he’ll get a one match ban or something. I’m amazed the ref didn’t spot it at the time. We don’t have form for that sort of thing so hopefully it’ll be a one off.

It has been some time since I have been so angry at a game. One incident sums up the Wycombe game for me; their keeper got booked for time wasting in the FIRST half. 2nd half whenever Cods mounted an attacking move a Wycombe player would go down with an 'injury', their medic would then stroll on, have a chat then stroll off again, player would then jump up and get a thumbs up from their manager.

Granted Wycombe were down to 10 men, BUT this was due to a calculated, off the ball, elbow into the face after just 10 minutes, so little sympathy. For the remaining time Wycombe put on a fine display of ANTI football. It reminded me of when Barton was our manager, and the total shit housing he instilled into the team. I must be naive because I pay to go and watch an entertaining combative game of football. Hopefully for fellow fans across the country this is a Wycombe one off and not their norm, if it is, how have they got any fans?

My take was more in response to the fact that many teams were saying that league 1 was a massive step up in quality. It isn't as I knew it wouldn't be. We do, however, need to get up to speed pretty quickly otherwise we'll be in trouble when we really shouldn't. Weird response from SVH.

I agree it is not a massive step up. What is different as you and others have noted is that strikers need few opportunities to score and teams are more streetwise.

To be fair you are talking about getting up to speed etc to deal with what you think isn’t a big step up in quality … but in my opinion the majority of the other clubs in the division aren’t fully up to speed yet either. We certainly aren’t. Derby are pretty much a whole new side and will get better. Ipswich and Wednesday are already levels above most in this league. Pompey have made a great start and Barnsley are starting to improve under a good new manager. Plymouth and Peterborough are good sides and haven’t even mentioned the likes of Wycombe, Oxford or Mk Dons who have decent budgets but are bound to improve. Better to judge it after 15-20 games but when everyone is up to speed I think we will see the gap widen between the top 10-12 teams and the bottom half like it did last season. That’s not to say there may be a surprise team in there too like an Exeter but I don’t think you’ve seen every one ‘on it’ yet.

Agree, too early to tell and one victory can jump a team four or five places at the moment. Our next games are: Wednesday, Oxford, Portsmouth, Ipswich and Wycombe. That will give us a much clearer sense of where we are.

Medic on for treatment while Cowley gave a team talk to his players.
Restart of game and 'injured' player stood next to half way line, only a couple of yards from where he would have started game. And ref immediately called him onto pitch.

Yup.. Thats definitely something we're doing. Don't particularly enjoy it. Rather concentrate on getting more goals. I've no doubt Griffiths was hardly touched yet went down looking dizzy. Our backup GK was stripped ready, but Griffiths was fine..Bazunu got alot of cramp around the 70 min mark last season. Don't like it, but everyone else does it.

Once Wilson and your fourth choice striker are back fit you’re going to push up the league anyway as no defence in league one will be able to live with them.

Agreed, the Cowleys look for any edge they can get and gamesmanship is part of that, sadly. They won't stop unless there is some kind of disciplinary action.

I've noticed that it's also getting worse in the Premier League this season. Some of Newcastle's antics at Liverpool were incredible and it was quite satisfying to see the winner go in after 8 minutes of the 5 allocated injury time.

Sad to also see Mendy successfully feigning injury to get West Ham's equaliser disallowed at the weekend. He made the decision that it was better to do that, rather than get up and attempt to save the follow up. And he was right, depressingly.

I was actually looking forward to VAR coming in as I thought it would be used against the dark arts like feigning injury or rugby tackling an opponent at a corner. Instead, they're ignoring all that and using it to give stupid non-handball penalties. If they focussed on gamesmanship they could have it cleaned up in no time.

I agree and it’s really frustrating that feigning injury is still not punished as often as it should be - it should be punished every time in my opinion. And the opportunity is there in the top flight to make it happen so clearly not working.

I kind of wish they’d “re-ref” EPL games the next day and issue retrospective bans for diving or feigning injury. I think that would clear up the problem in the EPL and it would filter down to the lower leagues ultimately.
