WW2 broke out in the first week of September so assume it barely started so wasn’t much of an issue... it ended in Europe in May but think it was 46 before it started again.
The 39-40 season was only three games old when the season was abandoned. The season after WWII just started again in same leagues as 39-40 season

Decent win for Crawley v Oldham. 3-0 was not something I expected after 30 minutes. I would have been happy with a point then. Glenn Morris producing another good performance. The double save in the first half was top drawer as the first was into his face at power but he was still up on his feet to save the second.

First league goal for Ricardo German. He was at national south level (on loan) for the start of the season so to come in and do ok when forwards ahead of him are injured is a big plus.

Oldham looked a good side whose league place is not a fair reflection on their abilities but after the second goal went in they collapsed and it could have been a hatful in the end. Must say, I thought Pellegrino (?) is a decent centre half. One showing I know but if I heard he was coming to Crawley I'd be happy.

Oh, people washing their hands in the toilets. I think the sink is the proper place to do this. You're storing up trouble if you wash in the toilet.

First half was fairly even... We started OK and 2-0 flattered Colchester a bit. Second half we faded away, especially after going 3-0 down. What was evident from our performance was a lack of leaders on the pitch, probably ended up with too many young players, not enough senior pros and for all his faults, Webster was missed.

Collin also had an especially poor game. He's kept the score down on many occasions but yesterday wasn't one of those.

Can’t agree with that. I thought from about 10 minutes on they totally dominated us and 2-0 was the least they deserved at HT. I seem to recall numerous occasions first half where their players had the goal at their mercy only for some last gasp block or clearance to save us. They also hit the bar.

Overall I don’t think we could have had too many complaints if they’d ran out 6-0 winners. We’re a million miles away. We should be ok this season but serious improvements needed if we want an improved next season, particularly with it likely being back to 2 going down.

Piergianni. On loan from Salford. Massive c**t and a bit slow, but excellent in both boxes.

I believe that next week City are giving free tickets to Flybe employees. If true, well done. The correct approach.

I can’t believe that yesterday Chiefs cancelled the tickets for Flybe staff that won them internally!!!

Surely the poor Flybe staff have been through enough?

What was the disturbance behind the goal by Swindon supporters?
Saw all the police and security rush to the area and it continued for many minutes.
In fact it was going on when FGR scored second goal.
I wonder if the Swindon players were being distracted by it when their team conceded goal!

From what I understand a steward grabbed a fan in an attempt to eject him. Other fans got involved. Then, apparently, there was a group of unaccredited ‘stewards’ who were essentially local bouncers who joined in. They had no visible identification and it all sounds a bit sinister.

A really poor show from the Chiefs. One of the Exeweb guys has offered a corporate hospitality package at City to the effected people which is a great gesture. Flybe and the associated businesses that fed off it were significant employers in Devon and it's a big blow for the area and my thoughts go out to everybody who is directly effected. The Chiefs are bloody idiots turning those people away. I've no interest in Rugby and I've never seen The Chiefs so they probably don't care what people like me think, but lots of their crowd will take a dim view on this.

On the football front I'm getting a bit nervous. I think it's 2 points from the last 12. We've got the players so I guess it must be a confidence thing. We've got some great defenders and probably the strongest midfield in terms of depth that I can remember, but if you can't put the ball in the net it matters little. We've had a lot of 1-0 wins this season and most games have been fairly tight. I still can't believe we put 4 past Argyle, but that seems a distant memory of late. Hopefully we will get our mojo back soon as we've been up there all season and I really thought it was going to be our year

OK, so maybe my initial post was a bit lazy...so I checked on Wikipedia, not always to be trusted, and there is a page about the Wartime Leagues:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wartime_League

This backs up what you posted and states that the leagues went back to normal for the 46/47 season. It also mentions the number of players who joined up from each team, the majority contributed dozens...the exception being Norwich, with one!!! (Perhaps their club emblem should be a bird with white feathers, not yellow!)

Or they continued in their Reserved Occupations (farming/agricultural workers) or working in the many RAF bases in and around the Norfolk area?

Scott Brown is the goalkeeper in the team of the week.... despite only facing one shot on target and literally having the afternoon off!

In a very strange way, this was the best thing that happened to us this year. Not really looked back since.
