I thought we were dreadful from back to moderate at front.Hmm strange game, was gone in 15 mins with their opening goal where the guy heads in after doing everything but take an AK47 to Palmer in the box from a corner. I think the ref could’ve given a yellow to Stone as there was a covering defender but I don’t have massive complaints about the red really, one of those things.
Otherwise we did enough to dominate the ball and territory with ten men to suggest we’re going to be able to score at this level, and looked vulnerable enough every time Sutton countered to suggest we probably need to strengthen our defence to complete, which we kind of knew anyway.

If we play like that all season we'll get relegated and no amount of coaching and formations is going to make that defence good enough. We've needed defenders all summer and probably a driving centre midfielder too.
It may only be one game in and it may turn out that Sutton are a play-off standard team but that was worrying.
I thought you looked efficient and effective, bullied us all day long.Nice start for us. Helped by the sending off but I think we would have scored goals without it (Notts would have definitely scored more than 1 without it). Notts look decent going forward and with the ball. Look very vulnerable at the back and lack height. Probably good to get exposed in that area early. Overall I think they’ll still likely do well. I thought Langstaff looked a threat, obviously McGoldrick decent and some nice bits from Bostock.
We’ve definitely improved in wide/attacking areas and have options. How good we shall see.
Pre season is probably the reason you dicked us. Ours was dire.It just goes to show how little pre season results count for anything. We were absolutly dire and I was dreading getting a drubbing at Wrexham. Madness.
Mind you, I've probably been suckered in by the Wrexham hype as well.
We did replace the keeper with a keeper, not a make shift fullback. I thought we were physically weak and as Williams said, they're a great bunch but some may not be able to step up or words to that effect. We were obviously rubbish defensively, but I’m a bit more chilled. 1-0 down and your ‘keeper sent off inside 15 mins and that’s that, not sure you can learn more from the game after that really. We could’ve gone damage limitation but tried to attack and get back into it and got picked off on the break, is what it is. Same thing happens again over the next few games then we’ve got a problem but what was about 95 mins with ten men was always going to be difficult against anyone.
Williams more pissed off than I am mind, absolutely gone in on them in his post-match.
With 95% of Bradford supporters already thinking that they were going to win even before a ball had been kicked, because every league table has us bottom, fewest points to be won in a season and relegated by March - but no one has taken the fact that plucky little old Crawley Town, a team of no hopers are going to play football to the best of their ability and are going to surprise many sides- Bradford paid the price first - Cook didn’t get a look in all game, Jay Williams made sure of that. OK the sending off helped but apart from a couple of half chances at the end didn’t look like scoring. Where as the no hopers could and possibly should have scored at least 4 more. Thats a bonus 3 points.

Cameron needs to improve, Rawlinson just isn't going to ever get quicker and Brindleys form has collapsed since Christmas. I had doubts pre-season about the defence, now I'm certain we need replacements and sadly I think Cameron may have to be one of them.
Don't worry, he pisses everyone off!Is everyone in Carlisle as weird as you? Why do you care?
Our clock was still running showing how long we had played. Previously it stopped on 90 minutes as that was a rule.
Has that changed?
Noticed all of this aswell, all new rules I believe. Also the refs are much stricter on dissent, we had a few yellows for that in our game today.Question around the added minutes.

New rules. We had two players booked for kicking the ball away. GOOD!

So Colchester have already won the Tin Pot Cup.With the rain around on Saturday, will there be any tin pot grounds that can’t stand the deluge?
Grimsby had a game called off last season in August.
Austin's energy would have perhaps made some difference. I think we need a Neal Bishopesque midfielder certaintly some drive and we either change personnel in defence or Luke Williams is going to have to change tack with them and just drill them into a solid unit that clears the ball to row Z now and again when necessary.Obviously, but ten men and chasing the game is a big ask at any level. Biggest disappointment for me was midfield, thought Palmer had possibly his worst game in a Notts shirt, the defence was bad but but Palmer and Bostock lost all their individual battles which didn’t help. Was some promising signs in attack I thought, McGoldrick and Langstaff linked up pretty well.
Also helped to convince me that Sam Austin and his seven lungs should always play. Never going to be the best player on the pitch but he just does stuff and gets us going.
Our match is a good lesson in why stats don't always mean a great deal. On paper it looks like we had the upper hand. But the reality is the complete opposite.

Last season we didn't have too many consecutive poor performances. So hopefully we can start to put things right midweek and be stronger at the weekend.
Can't your chairman get just stop oil to disrupt it?Touch and go for us. Being hit by Storm Antoni by the looks of it.
Was their first choice last season I think .Just watched the highlights, did Notts have a keeper on the bench or was it an outfield player? He didn't look like a keeper on some of the goals.

Sam Slocombe
No it was their keeper from last season unless he was injured and they had to replace him.Just saw the goals, from seeing the 3rd 4th and 5th goals that can’t be an actual keeper in net? presumably a defender? you wouldn’t have a regular keeper concede such goals at this level.
Unlucky for stone though given the industrial backpass
Here is another one that proves stats aren’t the be all and end all:Our match is a good lesson in why stats don't always mean a great deal. On paper it looks like we had the upper hand. But the reality is the complete opposite.

Nice to see Mansfield have decided to start their annual bottle job early this season instead of waiting until the last couple of months of the season like usual.
Against competent strikeforces and with competent officiating they'll struggle. Luke Williams gone by November. When I saw it was the keeper sent off for Notts I just nodded to myself, "sounds about right".
Haven't seen what happened but I can picture some fannying around at the back with the ball, they should have had a few reds for their keepers last season too.
