Impressed with Doncaster's ground. Good performance from us. Think we will do better than last season if we can get in a good replacement if Armstrong goes.

Hmm strange game, was gone in 15 mins with their opening goal where the guy heads in after doing everything but take an AK47 to Palmer in the box from a corner. I think the ref could’ve given a yellow to Stone as there was a covering defender but I don’t have massive complaints about the red really, one of those things.

Otherwise we did enough to dominate the ball and territory with ten men to suggest we’re going to be able to score at this level, and looked vulnerable enough every time Sutton countered to suggest we probably need to strengthen our defence to complete, which we kind of knew anyway.
I thought we were dreadful from back to moderate at front.
If we play like that all season we'll get relegated and no amount of coaching and formations is going to make that defence good enough. We've needed defenders all summer and probably a driving centre midfielder too.
It may only be one game in and it may turn out that Sutton are a play-off standard team but that was worrying.

We were obviously rubbish defensively, but I’m a bit more chilled. 1-0 down and your ‘keeper sent off inside 15 mins and that’s that, not sure you can learn more from the game after that really. We could’ve gone damage limitation but tried to attack and get back into it and got picked off on the break, is what it is. Same thing happens again over the next few games then we’ve got a problem but what was about 95 mins with ten men was always going to be difficult against anyone.

Williams more pissed off than I am mind, absolutely gone in on them in his post-match.

Nice start for us. Helped by the sending off but I think we would have scored goals without it (Notts would have definitely scored more than 1 without it). Notts look decent going forward and with the ball. Look very vulnerable at the back and lack height. Probably good to get exposed in that area early. Overall I think they’ll still likely do well. I thought Langstaff looked a threat, obviously McGoldrick decent and some nice bits from Bostock.

We’ve definitely improved in wide/attacking areas and have options. How good we shall see.
I thought you looked efficient and effective, bullied us all day long.

It just goes to show how little pre season results count for anything. We were absolutly dire and I was dreading getting a drubbing at Wrexham. Madness.

Mind you, I've probably been suckered in by the Wrexham hype as well.
Pre season is probably the reason you dicked us. Ours was dire.

We did replace the keeper with a keeper, not a make shift fullback. I thought we were physically weak and as Williams said, they're a great bunch but some may not be able to step up or words to that effect.
Cameron needs to improve, Rawlinson just isn't going to ever get quicker and Brindleys form has collapsed since Christmas. I had doubts pre-season about the defence, now I'm certain we need replacements and sadly I think Cameron may have to be one of them.

With 95% of Bradford supporters already thinking that they were going to win even before a ball had been kicked, because every league table has us bottom, fewest points to be won in a season and relegated by March - but no one has taken the fact that plucky little old Crawley Town, a team of no hopers are going to play football to the best of their ability and are going to surprise many sides- Bradford paid the price first - Cook didn’t get a look in all game, Jay Williams made sure of that. OK the sending off helped but apart from a couple of half chances at the end didn’t look like scoring. Where as the no hopers could and possibly should have scored at least 4 more. Thats a bonus 3 points.

Obviously, but ten men and chasing the game is a big ask at any level. Biggest disappointment for me was midfield, thought Palmer had possibly his worst game in a Notts shirt, the defence was bad but but Palmer and Bostock lost all their individual battles which didn’t help. Was some promising signs in attack I thought, McGoldrick and Langstaff linked up pretty well.

Also helped to convince me that Sam Austin and his seven lungs should always play. Never going to be the best player on the pitch but he just does stuff and gets us going.

For anyone who got dicked on the opening game i really wouldn’t worry too much, it’s 1 game of 46.

Question around the added minutes.

Our clock was still running showing how long we had played. Previously it stopped on 90 minutes as that was a rule.

Has that changed?

New rules. We had two players booked for kicking the ball away. GOOD!

I was pretty impressed with Mansfield today to be honest, I think they will be right up there.

As for us a good point vs a good team. Lots to improve on, the squad seems too light and needs a couple of loans bringing in. Alot of our lads looked dead on there feet out there today in the last 20 mins or so. Powell looked good in midfield, some classy touches but he tired and wasn't shocked to see him come off, Shilow Tracey looks a live wire, very similar to Agyei which is encouraging. Tough week coming up though now with trips to Sunderland and Swindon.

Yes, they announced it a day or two ago.

Noticed all of this aswell, all new rules I believe. Also the refs are much stricter on dissent, we had a few yellows for that in our game today.

Austin's energy would have perhaps made some difference. I think we need a Neal Bishopesque midfielder certaintly some drive and we either change personnel in defence or Luke Williams is going to have to change tack with them and just drill them into a solid unit that clears the ball to row Z now and again when necessary.

Our match is a good lesson in why stats don't always mean a great deal. On paper it looks like we had the upper hand. But the reality is the complete opposite.

Last season we didn't have too many consecutive poor performances. So hopefully we can start to put things right midweek and be stronger at the weekend.

But again you won a really weak conference and you aren’t playing the dog & partridge every other weekend, you’re up against sides that will punish you even in league 2.

You’ll come good, learn the lay of the land and do well, i remember us beating stockport 2-1 august time last season and said the same to them - and they came close.

but if you’re knocking around the bottom half in september or so i would go losing any sleep, you’ll come good.

Just watched the highlights, did Notts have a keeper on the bench or was it an outfield player? He didn't look like a keeper on some of the goals.

Was their first choice last season I think .

Just saw the goals, from seeing the 3rd 4th and 5th goals that can’t be an actual keeper in net? presumably a defender? you wouldn’t have a regular keeper concede such goals at this level.

Unlucky for stone though given the industrial backpass

No it was their keeper from last season unless he was injured and they had to replace him.

The original guy sent off was making his debut apparently.

Had a shocker in the play off final too I remember so maybe just a crap goalie .

Here is another one that proves stats aren’t the be all and end all:

Nice to see Mansfield have decided to start their annual bottle job early this season instead of waiting until the last couple of months of the season like usual.

Good resilience shown by the lads today. Unbeaten home record continues and we actually looked good going forward which is promising after a few seasons of looking wank up top.

Harvey Davies with two awful instances of goalkeeping today that put Mansfield 2 up. I won't be hard on him mind, Okonkwo started off shaky and he became incredible for us. But he really shouldve saved both goals.

Stonewall red card which cost Mansfield 2 points. 11 vs 11 we'd have lost that game today. Players looked knackered, squad looked light and defence is an aberration. Seems we're not getting anymore in until we shift Richards and BSD but the former is on a staggering contract (1K+ a week with 2 years left allegedly) and the latter keeps turning down National League moves and is now injured. So this might be as good as it gets.

I've been Luke Offord's biggest critic for the past two years. He's shite. How on Earth is he captain? He's a shrinking violet and our 4th best CB. Suicidal to bench our best CB, O'Riordan, for him. But Offord is seemingly immune from criticism as he's an Academy lad.

The Williams at LB experiment is awful and I dont know why it's being revived. Adebisi dreadful at the back yet dangerous going forward. Never known a player to be great with attacking headers and can't win one when he needs to defend.

Powell, Tracey and Demetriou all looked good signings today. Long may that continue.

Impressed with Keillor Dunn for Mansfield and he had 2 chances to kill us off that he should've taken. Thought they were vulnerable from crosses though and, with more end product, we could've beaten them. I think they might make the Top 7 this year barring injuries so I'll take a draw today.

As for us, if no one else comes in we'll be mid table at best. Just need Cheap Charlie to actually back Bell who is bringing back a better brand of football to the club.

I was at Gander Green Lane in the sporadic heavy rain yesterday and I agree with some of Jacob's comments and some of Optipez's comments.

Height is going to be a big issue although I doubt their are many sides bigger than Sutton, 4 giants. Very impressed by their two wide men and the quality of their crossing but the man advantage and our chosen lineup after the sending off gave them all the time in the world in dangerous areas of the pitch. We were rightly punished.

Awful needless under hit back pass , definite red card for me, combined with conceding from first corner and the game was over there and then.

Bostock, Jones and Nemane were the only players I thought played well out of the starting XI. Some quality touches and hold up play from McGoldrick as you would expect and some clear signs of good link up but early days and something that need working on. It's going to take time for it to click going forward due to his inclusion.

Let's be honest 5 goals, hit woodwork twice, a couple flashed past the post, and some wasted chances. Exploited Rawlinson's lack of pace and our lack of height.

It was men against boys but only a single game and not one to judge much on.

Still it's great to be back and the support was fantastic throughout.

When I saw it was the keeper sent off for Notts I just nodded to myself, "sounds about right".

Haven't seen what happened but I can picture some fannying around at the back with the ball, they should have had a few reds for their keepers last season too.

Against competent strikeforces and with competent officiating they'll struggle. Luke Williams gone by November.

Did have a laugh over their result after how much Notts County fans were bigging up their 'excellent' pre season.
