Two seasons ago we lost our last three League games and bottled the chance of going up automatically.

Will Cambridge do the same?

I dont think so! cambridge are one of only two sides we have played this season who i thought were better than us the other being walsall they will get what they need in the last game and afaic they deserve it.

Quite possibly, there’s a lot of disappointment on our board at the minute but for me I’m calm, certainly not panicking, it’s quite simple what’s left to do, whether we’ll perform like we have done throughout the season is a different matter, I have faith we’ll be ok but I really wouldn’t be surprised if we balls it up.
Have just not got to lose a football match, simple right?

Excellent goal by Morris.
It might be on shortlist for Tranmere's Goal of the Season. :)
Morris is one of our best attacking players, both in terms of assists and goals from midfield, and won player of the year last season in League One.

Needless to say, he is not a regular under Keith Hill........

I wish we were playing somebody who needed a win last game of the season, it’s great to spoil somebody else fun when you’ve had a poor season.

I remember we stopped Huddersfield going up in 2004 on the last day of the season - it was awesome.

Ok, they then went up through the playoffs, but seeing their disappointment after our shocking season following relegation from League 1 the season before lives long in the memory.

Vale dicked Huddersfield 4-0 away in the 90s on the final day, which secured our div 1 status and relegated the Stoke scum and Man City. Lovely stuff!

If we ever play Huddersfield in the last couple of games it’s key.

1998 beat them 4-0 to stay up and send the lard (and Man City down)

2000 lost 2-1 to seal our relegation to the third tier

2003 hammered them 5-1 to relegate them to the fourth tier and save secure our survival

2008 drew 0-0 against them which sent us down to the fourth tier for the first time in over 25 years.

Nah can’t agree with that about Cambridge. Away game was farcical and would’ve been abandoned in a normal season. Home game we were better and with a decent ref we would have had a pen when Hoolahan caught the ball. Walsall at home were decent though. There’s nothing much between any of the top 10 teams. Salford probably best team I’ve seen us play this season - all over us at their place.

Whilst you comfortably beat us at Blundell Park I thought we we much better than you at your place.

I remember in 1998 when Torquay came to our place on the last day needing a point to go up from this league, we was midtable and had nothing to play for, they brought around 2000 fans and we won 2-1 with a Dean Smith Penalty and a Craig Maskell 25 yarder. The last 15mins turned into a frantic free for all with Torquay piling forward at 2-1 leaving gaps at the back which resulted in their keeper being sent off and taking one for the team.

In the last minute there was an almighty scramble in our goalmouth with almost every outfield player piling in on it, the ref blew and gave us a free kick and we won the game and Lincoln beat Brighton to take the last promotion spot.

The worst crucial last day decider I can remember us playing was in the Conference when we just needed a point at long relegated whipping boys Grays to stay up. They had a virtual youth team out and still somehow beat us 2-1 after we went 1-0 up and then missed a few sitters before conceding two quick goals. A year 11 school kid scored their winner. Embarrassing day that was.

We then had to resort to our favourite plan b to stay up (the AGM cup).

Until we went down to 10 men just before half time you were. We scored early in the second half, had something to hang on to and you never really looked like equalising.

Port Vale away were decent, especially first half. Interesting, considering they had Darrell Clarke as manager, that they played very similarly to Walsall at Rodney Parade with their high press. Probably the best side I thought was Carlisle away who beat us 3-2 and we scored two late goals.

That was the year we went to Huddersfield late in the season and absolutely battered them in front of 20,000, Liam Lawerence running the show, definitely the best away performance I’ve personally witnessed by Stags, they got the last laugh in the play-off finals though, we got a goal wrongly disallowed and they beat us via penalties!

At the end of the 17/18 season we lost to an already relegated Chester's academy side 2-1 at home on the last day, thankfully Woking were beat by Dover and we stayed up. If we'd have gone down that day we would never have been where we are now.

As much as you'll still probably go up it's pretty tinpot to have been beaten by a team who were resting players for a game against Concord.

Couple of seasons ago we had games in April against both Bury and Lincoln. Both were in the final stretch of just needing a point to secure promotion while we were just mid-table nothing to play for, and we beat both (though they did both get the points they needed after us).

Similarly, if Lowestoft's last-minute effort went in rather than landed on the roof of the net, we might never have been promoted from the Conference North!

That’s football, on another day we’d have won that with the amount of chances we had but give I’ve got to give Harrogate credit, first team or not they certainly knew how to play against us.

Its be no means a certainty we’ll go up, all we’ve got to do is lose a football match which we’re more than capable of doing.

I watched Sky Sports News this afternoon. You were robbed with the Peterborough penalty. What a bunch of cheats.
A dropped bollock of Trevor Kettle proportions!

It was still in Peterborough's hands, but the win would have meant we could have taken it to the final day for auto's (we have Charlton tomorrow in our penultimate game). Still, it was the injury and Covid crisis that put pay to that a couple of months ago, not that decision in isolation. A great effort to turn it back around and be in the PO's with two to spare, mind.

So the game Harrogate rested players against Cambridge for, v Concord Rangers in the FAT final, is being played atm. First football league club to play in a Trophy game apparently.

They should win but playing against a Canvey Island based lower division team in a Trophy final doesn't always end well, as we well know. Be funny if Concord win when Cambridge lost to Harrogate's reserves.

It’s not just the FA Trophy. We fell foul of Canvey Island in the Cup too so add us to the list.

Watching this at the moment. Harrogate are not particularly impressive against a team which hasn’t kicked a ball in months. Should be grounds for automatic relegation from the league not putting these to the sword I say.

While agreeing that the Peterborough penalty wasn't, thought there was an arguable case for a foul on the Peterborough player in the build-up to the Lincoln penalty.

Feel for Concord a bit, big day for them and they should of been playing a non league side but ended up playing a modest League Two outfit instead.

Surely should of only allowed players registered last season really.

the problem there is that the turnover of players particularly in non league id high - so concord might have not had a team...

Sometimes given but Thompson has form in trying to draw fouls like that and not getting them. I didn't think there was quite enough in it for a foul. The Posh lot hate him for it.

Excellent goal by Morris.
It might be on shortlist for Tranmere's Goal of the Season. :)
Morris is one of the few players we have who is willing to have a go for goal more than 15 yards out. I`m willing to bet that if we compiled a list of how many shots from out the area each club in this division has had this season, either on or off target. we would be bottom of it. I have never seen such a shot shy squad in all my days of supporting Tranmere.
