We've both started of our seasons in similar fashion and this should be a good game. I think it'll end 1-1 with Hopper scoring for us and JET for Gillingham.

Needed a bit of a spark against Swindon that wasn't quite there, although we should still have won. I agree with a draw, 1-1 seems reasonable. Having said that, having a side attempt to attack us will be different to the last 2 games which should benefit us. Possible return to the squad for Dack, and a potential first start for O'Hara as well. Should see Donnelly come in for Cody up front too, and maybe Hess in for Osadebe to give him a rest.

Nelson
Jackson - Ehmer - Oshilaja - Konchesky
Wright
Hessenthaler - O'Hara
Knott
Donnelly - JET

Hadler, Pask, Byrne, Dack, Osadebe, McDonald, List

Looks like Dack will not be fit again.
Apparantly he and Wagstaff are making good progress though and it won't be long. How good will it be to have those two back just behind Cody and JET.
Reckon it will be:
Nelson
Jackson Ehmer Oshilaja Konchesky

Wright

Byrne O'hara Osadebe

Cody Jet

Bench:
Donnelly, Hessenthaler, Knott, Pask, Hadler, Oldaker, List

A hard fought point, or maybe a sneaky little narrow win.

I'd like to see a couple of changes for Gills, O'Hara in particular made a difference when stepping off the bench mid-week. I'm not sure if he and Josh Wright will be effective together though... they seem to play similar roles. I can see JED sticking with Tuesday's team.

Scunthorpe are my outside tip for the playoffs this season and they'll fancy a home win after a good start. Would take a point but head says 2-1 defeat.

Bishop starts ahead of Mantom which means we will be far too deep once again. This means if Gilllingham have anyone creative or somebody who can shoot in the middle were fucked as they'll have about an hour to pick it out.

It bodes well for the future when we win 5-0 without really hitting 2nd gear.

He does seem to be more or less done as a keeper, yes.

I'll get over this result, it's not the end of the world. We were missing so many players yesterday (Morris, Wagstaff, Garmston, Quigley, Martin, Jackson, O'Hara, Dack (although on the bench, still not fully fit)) and we got well and truly done over.

We move on.

No excuses for Nelson, his hands seem to be made of wet teabags this year. Already cost us four goals in as many games this season, doesn't help that we don't have any depth in defence either.

I really hope they're not your regular CB's or CM's.

Don't know which of the 3 played right back, but Pask, Ehmer and Oshilaja are indeed all regular CBs. We don't have others. Of the midfield, only Wright would be in anyones first choice midfield out of the 4 that played yesterday - Dack, Wagstaff and O'Hara will come in given time.

We've been quite lucky so far that no-one has even remotely tried to take advantage of the fact we're so understrength - Swindon and Bury didn't bother attacking, Southend were just bad. Unfortunately we have a genuinely shit defence and keeper and that is why we'll be no higher than mid table this season.

I don't think Josh Wright once tried to even stop us running forward with the ball.

As much as the goals were Nelson's fault, the goals could have been preventable if Ehmer or Oshilaja knew what closing down was.

Completely agree.

Let's be honest, all 5 are incredibly preventable. Free header 5 yards out from a corner? Fuck off.

Gillingham's keeper....... :ffs:

Even funnier is that I work with a Gillingham fan and he was going there yesterday

Ignoring Nelson having a shocker, I think with the way Edinburgh sets us up with attacking full backs and a lack of tacklers in midfield, we will always get beaten like this a few times a season. Our only holding midfielder (Morris) is out for the season, so we have little option.

I understand Pask has played in midfield for west ham dev team, so that might be worth a look.

Hopefully the points we gain from trying to be positive away from home will make up for it, but we do leave ourselves open.

What I don't get is that for nearly a year now, we've only had one competent striker at a time to choose from, yet we always play with 2. I'd do away with that - 1 up front, 1 supporting, 2 holding midfielders and 2 box-to-box/wingers (when fit). We leave ourselves WAY too open time and time again as you say, especially with our attacking full backs. Holding midfielder doesn't necessarily mean you need to have a big tackler/hard man in there, just someone with positional nous, ability to not charge all over the place and decent technique - Jamie O'Hara?

Midfield of

JET/Dack
Osadebe/Knott ----------------Hess (Wagstaff)
O'Hara - Wright
Would be a lot more solid. If we play McDonald or Donnelly, you can't have both JET and Dack in the side for me. Too open. Stick JET up front and yeah, Dack in behind is great. Right now I think JET is probably our best forward, but that's more to the fact that we're severely lacking up top.

I agree. A holding midfielder in our team has a hard job, as they need to be able to sit in front of the defense, and be able to move wide to cover in behind the attacking fullbacks.

Being able to tackle is part of the job, but reading the game is more important. Sometimes you need to win an important challenge tackle, but most of the time is is about picking up the knockdowns, and slowing their counter attacks until we get our shape back.

I like Josh Wright as a player, but the amount of times he ends up infront of the ball as our holding midfielder really worries me.
