This leagues mental pal, anyone can beat anyone sometimes I wonder why we're so worried about trying to get in the Premier League! You definitely have a chance of beating us no doubt about it, I'm not a deluded **** off Owlstalk, it reminds me of the games we did the double over you, you were a far better team on paper but on the day (that Tudgay goal is my all time favourite) we wanted it more. Take it you got a ticket? How much did we charge for your lot not bothered looking at that?

Yes I've got one £42.

I'm sorry but our midfield is one of the strongest points of this team, Bannan is looking more like 2015/16 Bananan and is an absolute joy to watch, Kieran Lee should be playing in the Premier League and David Jones has a shit load of promotions on his CV, it's a shame Hutchinson isn't fit as if it wasn't for his injuries he'd be playing in the top flight as well. Fleck does look a good little player I'm not going to deny that, despite Bannan being in the Scotland squat ahead of him, but there's no way your midfield is better than ours. I do quite like the system Wilder has you playing though, I actually wanted us to try the 3 at the back and wing backs in the summer, but against a system like ours you'll get punished outwide on the overlap like Forest did. Your fans at work have told me you'll go for it on Sunday as you aren't a side to sit back, we seem to struggle with sides who sit back so I hope you do, will make a cracking game!

And I'll do the same mate, you already deserve a lot of credit for this season, as many Wednesday fans (me included) had you down to be struggling at this stage, and you've proven us wrong so far. I'm not under any illusions of you being a 'pub team', you've found a system that works for you and is getting you results.
Really can't believe that many Wednesday fans had United down to struggle, they absolutely walked League 1 last season, despite a terrible start.
They were never going to struggle in my eyes, I had them down as midtable.
I do agree though that credit is due to them for their start to the season, if (God forbid) they get a result on Sunday it could give them the impetus to push for a promotion spot.
Saying all that I still fully expect us to finish above em, but as Huddersfield showed last year (and so far this) and Leicester the previous season, anything can happen in football.

No way our midfield is better on paper than Wednesday's I'll have to disagree with sheffsteel on that one. Infact man for man all 11 positions Wednesday have better players I'd say but quite frankly I don't give a fuck about that, I know we've got a chance Sunday and I know we can compete in this league regardless of team on paper. Other than Cardiff we've matched everyone and been better than teams with better squads. Both teams are in good form but I hope we don't just go all out for it because we will lose imo. We will go with a similar approach as we did at sunderland and from what I've seen of Wednesday we will definitely get chances and that's something we are pretty good at taking.

I agree individually Wednesday are better individually, even their midfield is individually better.
But my point regards United is the midfield is better as a unit than the indidual parts.

So Wednesdays midfield 3 are 1.5 + 1.5 + 1.5 = 4.5 pts
Whereas Uniteds midfield is 1 + 1 + 1 = 5 pts.
It’s the most cultured comfortable on th ball midfield I’ve seen United have in 40 years.

Good point about out tactics.
Wednesday have tended to struggle against the Burton types that are frustratingly negative and defend in numbers. The thing is that Wilder is always pretty positive and plays for a win, this might play into Wednesdays hands.

The tactics will be really interesting. Will Carlos release the shackles, start quick and go for it like they did against Forest or will Carlos be over tactical and play the 1st half sparring weighing up the opposition saving his team for the second half? I expect we’ll come out of the blocks quite quickly and go for it. I’m going to look silly Sunday night if it’s a negative boring stalemate with us playing spoiling tactics but it would be a first.

League One is pish, we walked it and struggled when we came up here.

They're riding the crest of a wave at the moment, Wilder was/is an unknown quantity and their squad on paper isn't great, you can forgive people for thinking they'd struggle.

I had them down to finish 16th, I think that'll be nearly spot on.

That’s what everyone thinks but I forgive you ;-)

Some of us have been watching United for 40 years and there are rumblings that something very special is happening at Bramall Lane. It’s different (much better) than the Warnock era.

However football is a funny game. We could easily lose this, then we have a strong Wolves team in midweek, lose that, then we go on a poor run and drop down the league.
Then my insight into SU will look stupid with egg well and truly on face ha ha.

Your logic for the midfield is simply flawed, there's no logic to how Mark Duffy (journeyman), John Fleck (Rangers, Blackpool and Coventry) and Paul Coutts are better than Kieran Lee, Barry Bannan and David Jones.

Lee is arguably one of the best midfielder in the division, his work rate, passing and goals are there for all to see, I'm not dismissive of your trio but I'd like a logic to your ramblings.

Just saying but nearly everyone says the same about their own team, Sheff Utd's optimism is no different to nearly every other club in the league.

I don't understand what you mean by this, you say Sheff Utd have better midfield by the logic of math that doesn't even add up or make sense?

Totally agree, it makes no sense, the logic is flawed

But just watch the match tomorrow
And report back with an honest opinion of journeymen Fleck, Duffy and Coutts.

Ive been watching United regularly since the 77-78 season and it’s the best midfield I’ve seen in that time. I’m 90% confidence we will have spells where we dominate midfield. Words are cheap so let’s see. I will give credit to Wednesday if I’m proven wrong but I’ve seen Wednesdays midfield play many times and we are definitely better on the ball.

Do you take prescription medication for it?

Let’s see who has the last laugh.
Many Wednesdayites lack respect and aren’t known as deluded for nothing.
Let’s see which one of us is made to eat humble pie.
I’m not saying United will win mainly because we’re relatively weak up front.
What I’m predicting is that we’ll put in a good high quality performance and you’ll be surprised at how good we are.

I have respect but won't hold my tongue when I think people are talking round uns, you make it sound as though we are up against Xavi and Iniesta etc when we are playing players deemed not good enough at this level previously. I'll give an honest appraisal tomorrow but I can see us winning and you being none too gracious, just look at your generalising in this last reply.

Southey,

I actually live in the Southey area too.
Near the top of Herries Road where the garage is, just up the road from Wednesdays Kop.

I’m watching the match at home on Sky with another Blade (season ticket holder) and 2 Wednesday pals (both stopped going to matches in the 90’s). My brother has been a season ticket holder on Wednesdays North stand for a few years and he’ll be at the match.

We all chat about each other’s teams all the time. Like to think I’m honest and fair.
If Wednesday play well i’ll definately report back and give your team credit.

Totally agree with your comment, Fleck, Coutts and Duffy shouldn’t be good, they are lower division journeymen, but for some weird reason, they play like top quality midfielders who can pass for fun. Really looking forward to the test to see how we shape up against a promotion contender.

They’re turning up to my house just before the match starts.

They’re not proper Wednesday fans, each one has only been to about 20 matches in their lives, all in the early 90’s, when Wednesdays had a really good team. I wind them both up now because I probably know more about Wednesday than they do. Also I know they’ll be OK if United lose.

We have players who can pass for fun, doesn't make em world beaters. Bannan is about a top end midfielder at this level, Lee is a cut above him IMHO, we have the likes of Abdi and Hutchinson in contention too.

I sit on the North Stand, had a season ticket since the late 80s and go all over, this reminds me of 91/92 a lot. Just hope the results are more like 79/80 or 93/94

Wouldn't let Abdi anywhere near the pitch tomorrow, Hutchinson is a decent player but a walking red card if it heats up, and no doubt it will

Us and Swindon had about 9 pages before the game in 2015.

I think it's the biggest game in the division this season, massive derby.

Will watch this with great interest, it's as fierce a rivalry as ours is with Rovers, proper same city hatred. Wednesday vs United is bigger as two bigger clubs but two great fixtures.

Game will probably be scrappy as derbies always are, 1-0 Wednesday.
