The 3 who were proved to have been involved in the actual violence (mainly through blood on clothes and shoes) got the maximum but apparently the police/prosecution believed that they could not prove who specifically attacked Simon and the other victim - so did not go for GBH or similar, let alone attempted murder.

One of the men convicted is 24 years old and has 24 convictions.

Clearly prior sentencing hasn't been harsh enough if he's been able to accumulate that many convictions by that age.

The main perpetrators should have been charged with attempted murder. These scum will be back out on the streets in about 2 years whilst Simon and his family have been given a life sentence.
