Sadly JD, I doubt if they have much of a soul, conscience or even basic intelligence.

Indeed. I doubt that if you possessed those qualities that you would commit the crime in the first place.

So sad to hear he's worsened. Don't really know what else to say.

Put some money in the bucket. Pleasing that it looked like a lot of other Pompey fans did the same.

Shocking but heartwarming to see the guy on the pitch with his family and the full support of the crowd before the game.

It's things like this that make me question why I follow football but then I realise they aren't football fans just criminals. Very sad story and my thoughts are with him and his family.

So very sad to see a young man in such a horrible place. Well done to everyone who chipped in,at the end of the day we are all football fans and that's what brought us all together.

Simon's family now have their own transport. A fund-raising friendly with Southend has been confirmed. He was at the match today. This picture was from his first chance to get to the Abbey - for the Portsmouth match.

Watching from afar I see this case is in Crown Court right now. Hope that justice is served, although it wont help Simon and his family physically, it might help a little short term mentally and maybe another innocent football supporter in the future. Seems a vicious premeditated and extreme cowardly attack by a dozen gutless, pathetic wannabe hooligans, on a small group of three or four middle aged obvious non hooligans.

Good luck Simon and family, whatever the outcome.

I read about the case in the paper this morning and as it seems it was premeditated violence they deserve at least 10 years inside.:mad:

Exactly, these people don't represent football fans or humanity, a bit like how on a different note the current attackers aren't representative of any religion etc.

I hope scum like that get as long as possible, they deserve it.

First time I have come across this being in the L1 forum when and since this happened.

That is sickening to see and I hope he can make more progression towards recovery, what absolute sub human scum, clearly a family man, middle aged just watching his team and didn't deserve that at all. I hope those that did it spend a long time inside.

They are up for violent disorder which is such a menial offence compared to what actually happened. :-(

Highly doubt they will get more than 18 months. Unprovoked attacks by chavs rarely get anything more.

Don't know if the fund raising friendly between us and Cambridge is the best idea.

Verdicts are in. 8 of the 13 on trial have been found guilty of Violent Disorder, the rest have been found guilty of lesser offences.

"..Simon Dobbin will see his attackers sentenced

Prosecutor Andrew Jackson stands up.
He states that Simon Dobbin has expressed a desire to see the men sentenced.
He is not here today, but he will be for sentencing.
Judge Pugh says sentencing will take place on Monday, July 17 at 11am.
Case is adjourned until then.
All defendants will be remanded in custody........"

The Simon Dobbin Benefit match with Southend United in support of Simon will be played on 29 July.

Sentencing is on Monday, the majority were charged with violent disorder which carries a maximum term of 5 years, so probably be out in at least 18 months. Not even close to what these lowlifes deserve.

If you want to get really angry then read the comments on the Essex Echo's Facebook page on this, absolutely mental.

I struggle with this case. Humanity shows its inhumane side more and more frequently but even by our standards this one shocks beyond belief.

The thing that sits with me is that Simon's injuries are so horrific. I was there that day and stayed late to watch the evening game - it could have been me rather than Simon and I do feel I would rather be dead that live Simon's life. I feel anger but more than anything over two years on, I feel numb. I just don't get it at all.

Doesn't surprise me. The majority of Sarfend fans are absolute mutants.

And the majority of BOrient fans I've come across in the past are mostly sub human scum I've found, not to generalize or anything though as I'm sure you're OK of course.

Nowhere near enough, as we all know, but the judge did as much as he could. Hopefully they all suffer inside and have to see out their full terms.

I can only hope the Dobbin's have just a little bit of closure at least, although it will never be enough to compensate for what they have had and will have to go through.

Let's also hope the friendly in a couple of weeks, and any future competitive games, go off without incident, and that none of us will ever have to go through anything like this for simply watching our team.

The law needs changing for premeditated violence like in this case as those sentences are pathetic after the damage to Simon that will effect him and his family for the rest of their lives, i don't understand why non of the cowardly shits got the maximum of 5 years.

A premeditated attack with this level of violence should be an attempted murder charge given that the severity of the attack could have killed him.
