It would be the least surprising thing if FGR go up this season. They've invested heavily for years now and the only difference between them and someone like Fleetwood is that it's taken them longer to get out of the league. They seem to be spending a bit more wisely now and they do look every inch a team who can get promotion. The only caveat is if they slip up and end up in the play offs all bets are off.

If (when?) FGR go up I can actually are them having a good couple of years. Maybe even making League 1, unfortunately at that point having a sugar daddy doesn't need that much of a difference amongst some very big clubs and with FFP in place. The fact they are in an area of the country that don't like football will start to be a factor as the fans they've picked up along the way drop off. Crowds dwindle back into the 2000 bracket, maybe Vince gets bored , dies or otherwise feels his money is better spent elsewhere. Hopefully they will just fallback to their natural level as a stalwart of the conference National /South level. But the spectre of Rushden & Diamonds does loom large.

As Jovial Forrester once said , what is the fan to do? You could start supporting Halifax like Pliny Harris :bl: or just enjoy the ride. I've made my peace with moneybags FGR I actually find them less objectionable than a lot of the hobby clubs. Good luck to them.

Getting close to clearing the final hurdle with the highways agency re the M5 junction 13 stadium planning application, (the road between our new £100m stadium/sport and leisure complex and the business/technology park is being widened into a duel carriageway) and the architect chosen to build the new stadium will be announced this week.

DV is hoping to start building in Jan 18 at the latest. Once that is completed we'll be fighting at a completely different weight, we'll have better facilities then most league 1 clubs. Then maybe establishing ourselves in the Championship and maybe even looking to kick on from there will be more realistic.

Till then reckon we'll do what Fleetwood have done, and establish ourselves as a decent league 1 side. Our set up behind the scenes is a lot better then most people realise. We're a football league club in all but name.
That's changing next April though.

Check the thread and you'll see my reply was in response to pompous post by a Grimsby fan , a team that is no longer in the Conference.
But it is true that there is plenty of games left and a 4 pt gap can easily be absorbed.
For instance D&G managed a draw at TNL and if they beat us in London they will have virtually caught us up.
FGR have not yet played many/most of the top of table teams, let alone beaten any.
But I will say that this time last season even the FGR fans considered some of our wins lucky. This season there is far more confidence around the camp. We expect to put the ball into the back of all our opponents nets and are disappointed not to win.
I think there is one opinion that everybody shares that if FGR don't win title they will certainly end season in promotion zone.

Oh you will deffo be in the play offs, and probably win it, but to say you will, be adamant you will, when we aren't even at the half way stage and are only now beginning to play the top teams, is premature to say the least, and whilst it may not happen, you could just be setting yourself up for a huge fall

FWIW, I think FGR will win the league, and about time, too. They wasted money and years under Hockaday when everyone other than DV could see it wasn't going to happen.

Big month or so coming up for them with us, Tranmere, Dover, Aldershot and Eastleigh.

We both agree on that.

Chris, if you are that good, and offensively going to score 100 goals (really?) why the hell is your club so rigorously pursuing Miller, do you really need the lad?
Just seen an article from your local newspaper on our forum that says, following your last knock back, you have now put in another bid, believed to be £100,000 for him. You may believe you are going to piss the league, but your manager obviously is not so confident!
All you're doing is unsettling our player you may have a lot of money, but as a club, little class my friend, what part of our chairman's statement was so difficult for you guys to take on board?

Even though we're already averaging 2 goals a game, Miller is better then what we've got, with him we'll wrap up the title sooner then we will without him.

And little class would be going public with our interest, like Lincoln did. We've kept it private. If you don't want to sell him, reject the offer. It's a fair one though.

Either FGR or Dover have let the news get out that there's been an improved bid. It's not just guesswork.

will the science park have a services? missing a trick if not.
People coming off for a costa or petrol might fancy watching a match on route to Dorset and Cornwall or back up to the midlands.
My preferred design is the one with the pylons coming out of it; would be visible from further away.

Going public? What part of telling the local rag so they can spread it everywhere is keeping it to yourselves then?

Can't say I am privy to the workings of the clubs inner sanctum, but I guarantee we don't have a press officer based in anywhere near Forest Green.
Am not claiming the moral high ground here like some on our forum our, it's just a bit relentless considering they have already been giving an answer, in English which I am assuming is not widely spoken in the veggie world. FGR want to live above their means, fine with me, to a smaller extent, I guarantee we do as well, but for heavens sake, when does no become no?

Yeah, that's what I'm hinting at. I know how these things work, and it isn't ever a press officer that leaks info to the press - it's someone at the (usually buying) club who wants the deal to happen. Unless Dover are desperate to cash in, but don't want to admit it, I think we all know who the source is.

The designers have only just built a fancy eco-services in Gloucester. Rather decent it is too, I'd recommend a stop if you get the chance.

Or it could be the players agent, which is what usually happens.

......and after the acrimony the paper took earlier in the season from the club, they would risk further alienation and print something on the strength of someones agent would they?

You'll have to do a lot better than that:told:

A player's agent would be stirring up interest by saying a Championship club is interested. This does nothing to further the agent's or Miller's cause - it's someone at one of the clubs who wants a deal to be done but can't come out and say it publicly. Pretty sure you can grasp how this works.

Maybe the paper really can't be arsed covering non-league football, and wants another ban? It's not beyond the realms of possibility.

That was the other Stroud newspaper.
But yes this story is growing legs: not in the best interest of both clubs.

Not a bad idea tbf.

The winning design/architect will be unveiled tomorrow afternoon. It's down to 2 finalists, Zaha Hadid Architects, who designed the London 2012 aquatics centre, and Glenn Howell's architects, who designed Gloucester Services.

Is it true that the stadium will only hold 5,000? If so what is the point of building it, and in what way is building all that stuff on acres of existing green fields, using all those materials and all that energy, eco-friendly?

Easily expanded to 10,000 apparently. Seems about right to me.

Just seems like a colossal waste of money and a vanity project to me, if you'll simply end up with another small stadium, no matter how nice it looks. I wonder who'll own the new ground - FGR or Ecotricity? Who owns the old ground and who'll benefit from it's sale for housing?

You don't want to end up in a Coventry or Darlington type situation at some point in the future.

I think Cooper can suggest players, but it's our technical director/director of football and analytical staff that do a lot of the work regarding transfers, along with DV obviously.

Our scouting network and recruitment is a lot more sophisticated now.
And the #TopNegotiator of course.
