Will be a very tough match for us, although I think we will win.

Hope Coutinho is rested/benched, he's looked jaded and I doubt he'd be as effective coming up against Saints' double DMs, he could get marginalised from the start but may have better luck later on when space starts to appear. Start Balotelli, give them a different threat to face. He's looked fired up recently, City are on the horizon, and he only seems to work in a partnership with Sturridge.

Hope our fans ignore the three ex Saints players but they won't. Lallana and Lovren will get loads of abuse that will probably fire them up and Lambert will get a cringeworthy hero's reception.

We need to be at our best if we're to win. We've been shy in front of goal recently and its something we can't afford to be like on Sunday.

Lovren probably warrants the abuse. Particularly from the Liverpool fans since they have the misfortune of "supporting" him these days. Fortunately for them, Emre Can is a beast and Lovren can angle for his move to Madrid from the bench.

0-0 draw.

As much as i hate penaltypool i have to admit they continue to over achieve with what is an average team this term. They are up against a good saints team so will have to raise their game again.

i'll go for 2 - 1 saints win with either a saints player sent off or the obligiatry weekly peno for the luckiest team in the land

come on you saints

^^ numpty.

Think this will end in a draw which does Liverpool no favours but isn't the end of the world for So'ton. 1 - 1.

Hope we win with a hattrick of Balotelli penalties from Lallana dives.

With United losing today, this game is certainly a chance for us to take advantage. But a draw wouldn't be an awful result.

Yeah, we could leapfrog Arsenal and Man Utd with a win tomorrow, or even with a draw we'd move up to fourth place.

No it wouldn't I suppose, but Liverpool do have a lot of tough matches to play yet and need to pick up wins in most of them if they are going to do it.

Lallana and Lovren both starting apparently.

That's ruined the home atmosphere already. Our mongs will be too focused on hating them.

A draw would be poor for Liverpool in the context of this game week. It would be a big chance dropped to make up points on United, Spurs, and Southampton and also to pull away from West Ham.

As an isolated result against a very good Southampton side, at their place, it's not a bad result at all obviously but at this stage of the season it's all about outperforming those around you.

"Mad to boo Lallana"
Southampton v Liverpool (16:15 GMT)

Posted at

"I think Adam Lallana will get a good reception today. Only the crazy fans will give him stick. When you think about how well he did at this football club, I don't think you can give him anything other than the credit he deserves. He was at Southampton since he was 14. It was a natural progression for him to move on."

Claridge is an idiot isn't he?

Surely Lallana will get boo'd?

Reckon Foster should have done better though.

Cracking strike from Coutiniho!

That's a pen there though, surely? Allen brings him down.

That's a penalty and a red card for Joe Allen. Incredible bottle job again.
