Liverpool may have got lucky with one or two decisions, but the Sterling swipe was a penalty as well, it evened out :D

Out of interest, how so?

Well aside from paying him handsomely for his services (he was among the highest earners in the Championship when we got promoted), he struggled as a kid. Our physio's picked up on his irregular heartbeat and Saints paid for the surgery to have it corrected. I highly doubt his career would have turned out so well if he still had his irregular heartbeat, he probably wouldn't even be a professional footballer.

No Saints fan boo'd him because he left, it was because of how he handled the move. He even admits he handled it poorly, he will probably get a better reception next season.

Sterling's was a penalty too, but it didn't even begin to even things out. Not in the slightest. No class at all there I'm afraid mate.

Y'see the thing for me here is, while that's all very nice them doing that, I have a problem with the way it's perceived as something he should be unequivocally grateful for, and the reason I say that is because it's completely self serving. They have done right by him there, no doubt, but they have done so, as with any other club, for the benefits he will bring to the club. He was paid handsomely because presumably that's what it was decided he was worth and needed to be paid in order to retain his services. The surgery, from a purely cynical POV is just a pure investment. I doubt very much if they didn't feel he could go on to become a first team player that he'd have been helped medically.

Now if contract negotiations went something like "Yeah I'd like £5k a week please in my new deal" And Southampton weighed in saying "No, no Adam, we're giving you £20k a week plus bonuses, because that's how much we think of you" then fair enough. If the decision to give him treatment was done with a high expectation that he wasn't ever realistically going to play for Saints and was done without obligation, then again, fair enough. But I have my doubts.

Pellè has been pretty shit for a while now. It was clear Southampton needed a goal-scorer in the window and they failed to get one. Long won't get you many goals. Coming back to haunt them now.

Yeah, as before January we drew with Chelsea and beat Arsenal at home and were sitting in the top four. What an opportunity we had to strengthen a small squad going into the window and cementing a place in the top four. Unfortunately the opportunity wasn't taken and Pelle is still playing 90 minutes each week, because we simply don't have anyone else. We could've possibly even gone to bring Lambert back after Villa were closing in on him, as he's a similar style of striker to Pelle and we already know his ability and limitations.

Just having another body such as Sam Gallagher to throw upfront and hope he has more success than Pelle would be better than what we're doing at the moment.

We're the only team in the top flight not to have lost this year so far. And we have taken 23 points from a possible 27. Hopefully we can keep it up but we have a few shit fixtures coming up. I'm not confident about City next weekend.

Neither am I, but if they get a win midweek against Barca (big ask I know) then they may be half concentrating on the second leg of that tie which could work in Liverpool's favour.

City's finishing on Saturday was first rate though, can't let them have many chances or they'll take them.

Questionable line up from us going forward, it was always going to be hard/emotional for Lallana which maybe had an affect on his game. Sterling up through the middle with Sturridge and an in form Balotelli on the bench.

We got extremely lucky with the Allen challenge. The other two it's harsh on Soton, but would've been harsh on us if they were. Both 50/50 but I'm surprised Friend didn't crack under the pressure of it being at St Mary's.

Very good result for us, but apart from the final 20 minutes we weren't comfortable at all and couldn't get going.

Ibe had another good game, he's coming on strong. The loan spell at Derby has matured him a bit.

Apparently Liverpool have brought in a new defensive coach. Speaks volumes as to why we're keeping clean sheets.

He said after the game, of the clean sheet "must be the new defensive coach everyone wanted us to appoint" or something. There is no defensive coach, he was being sarcastic.

Ah ok. I didn't see that, I miss anything post football because work is a pain in the vagina.

I'm sure Lallana and Lovren went away from St Marys yesterday far happier than any of the fans booing them.

As for the booing, I couldn't give a fuck, and I doubt the players feel much different. It's expected and any fan base would do it under the circumstances.

Yeah everyone's been there. Most players usually get a good reception when coming back to Anfield but Torres and Owen didn't. It's all circumstantial. Lallana and Lovren's got booed, but the Soton fans still hold Lambert in high regards.
