Some football clubs/chairmen are an utter disgrace
After not watching football for a while beginning to wonder if it’s worth it anymore.
It's getting that way mate, i'll not watch the Champions League anymore (after the Super League shite) and barely watch a non Pools game. Football stinks and tbh if Pools ever go pop that's me done. I've got a 18 month old lad and wondering if I really want him to get into football.

On top of all that you've got people like Mino Raiola, who is in course to become the first billionaire footie agent. Absolute pathetic that the football authorities allow this.

Yeah I feel for my lad and his generation, he’s 14 and I’ve been taking him since he was 4 or 5 so he’s only ever known us be either non league or absolutely shite in League 2, yet still him and all his mates love GTFC and go to every game they can get to.
At least with me I’m old enough to remember us being good with all our years in the second tier while I was in my teens and early twenties.

If this stupid idea passes, why not even up L1 and 2 to 25 clubs each, by reprieving whoever finishes 21st in L1?

Makes just as little sense...

I am amazed that Southend and Grimsby have the money to waste on this appeal.
No doubt both clubs will be complaining of financial problems next season..and being made to play in the rain

they don't need money because apparently everyone in the NL is poor as church mice and put out teams of postmen and binmen every week.

The way I see it, this is one last hurrah from the outgoing board to try and salvage some respect for them. It was never going to work but it proves how dense they are. Should it be approved (it won’t) then questions need asked. I understand the furore on this thread but put yourselves in this situation and tell me you wouldn’t appreciate the smallest chance of staying, unfairly or otherwise.

Grimsby were one of the main drivers behind pushing for our increased penalties. Funny how things come around isn't it.

I used to love watching the CL. Don't watch before the knockouts now and only English clubs then. Without fans watching is a lot harder I find.

Both situations from our outgoing board which the fans are glad to see that back off, you should know well about boards the fans don't want.

I've never watched the group games. Dull as fuck. Would watch the latter stages as you say with fans, good quality football and occasionally a decent atmosphere. Now I couldn't give a shit as the teams usually involved have just recently confirmed how little they care about anything except making the shareholders happy. So they can go fuck themselves.

The "new board" could withdraw the appeal of course?

Possibly but the ex chairman ( and a lawyer so probably believes he has a case) who apparently put the proposal in is unfortunately still on our board for a temporary amount of time as part of the transition period for the new owners to get to grips with running a football club and the rules that come along with that.

It's the clubs that have allowed Raiola to flourish, not the authorities. Too many big clubs just back down to ludicrous ransom demands from agents and then have the nerve to complain that the authorities are stopping them from bringing in enough revenue. If they stopped wasting money they wouldn't have that problem.

The way I see it Ron hasn't joined in with this to try and salvage league position, I genuinely think he sees the end point as a rather large cheque.
He's claiming the EFL are fully behind this and that there is a 'case to answer' for the National League. First meeting about it is next week, then at the AGM on 9th June (I think). A decision will be made from the EFL end.

Now all I'm seeing here is a big can of worms being opened. Which suits Ron, cos it'll drag on, we'll start the season in the National Premier and it still won't be resolved. How will it be resolved? how these things always are, by bunging a large enough amount of money at it so everyone goes away.
Ron's already ordering the new Bentley's.

Yeah but when the good times come, it's just so much better. All of us here, we're much more emotionally involved and attached to the clubs we support, we love. Imagine being these people who 'support' shit like Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal. The need to attach yourself to something 'successful' because your petty existence is so meaningless you need gratification from a sky sports subscription and the latest 4th kit.
Your lad has chosen the correct path and when the good times come, and they will, his soul will rejoice for the choices he has made.

Phil Brown confirmed as manager on a 2 year contract. So he got his 100th career win and then has come out with this snippet:
I’ve signed a two-year deal which is geared towards promotion and then it becomes a third year automatically, which I shook hands on and I’m going to back myself to do.
"Hopefully I can get to 200 wins in that short space of time, and if that’s the case then certainly promotion is on the cards, if not back-to-back promotions. Let’s take one step at a time."

By far one of the best pieces of Phil Brown interview nonsense he's ever come out with. 50 win season coming up.

We're not going to get a better manager, but the issue is everything that got us into the mess that sees the club in this division can be traced to Ron's pandering of Brown and his seeming need to bring in high profile, high wages, mainly crocked players. His contact book is a 2008 who's who of bottom half premier league players, so who comes into the club, cos we basically need a new squad, will be interesting.

That really is the opposite of what you need. Southend need to be picking off some of the best players in the Conference South and the myriad of London-based teams in this league who they should be a more attractive proposition than.

Well the hopeful news is we're finally getting a CEO who will act more like a director of football, so that could rein Brown in.
The other thing with him is he's actually good at bringing in youth players and getting them playing in the 1st team, he can certainly spot a young player.

But I agree, we have so many non-league teams around South and mid Essex, into East and South-East London that you'd hope we could scout a few players from there. Sadly, I already know we don't do anything of the sort, time we started.

I'm eagerly waiting to see who we release and look to keep. I would expect the higher wage players to be gone for sure.

I wish we could get rid of the lot. It's a squad full of losers, perpetual losers.
Don't know Clifford or Elvis contract situation but I'd say they are basically our only saleable assets. Elvis wasn't great this past season, but was always solid in League 1, could be a higher league suits his game more.

Looks like it’s now or never then to get him a new contract if you want to hang on to him

In all seriousness, I think we need to offer him a contract anyway to make sure we get compensation if he goes elsewhere.

I think he's in for a rude awakening.

So do Southend have financial issues? Or are they as stable as a stable thingy?

Our chairman likes to think we're big boys but we're really not. We'll probably have a budget around 5/6th in the league

Gone by October and will end up as a pundit on the BT coverage of games in this league.

then he can do a makeover show with Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, where they travel the country in a vintage car putting everyone in cravats

It's such a cultural shock for league clubs the NL. Often they assume they will waltz the league ( although cannot think of many clubs who have gone straight back)
After years of losing games its difficult for a club to start winning on a regular basis. But Good luck!
