Tbf to Fenty, I'd say he did the exact opposite keeping Hurst on as long as he did.

...and it eventually paid off, which makes the Bignot thing even more weird. I don't think Bignot was the right man for the job, but he deserved a much longer chance. Slade usually takes a season to get his shit in order, squad/performance wise, so it will be interesting to see if Fenty is willing to ride that out.

I disagree, Hurst was doing what was asked, we never had the number one budget so you couldn't expect the title, getting us in the promotion hunt every season was his remit which is what he did, it was the fans who's expectation was higher not Fentys. I believe sacking Hurst would have set us back a season or two and we would probably still be non league, and as SoC says that's why I thought Fenty had learnt from non league and we would be OK, but last season proved he learnt nothing and I hope it doesn't come back to bite us in a few seasons time.

Not disputing that keeping Hurst was the right decision, Fenty would've got the wrong appointment and we'd have finished midtable.

Disagree with your argument about not expecting the title, Barnet and Cheltenham didn't have the biggest budget but they managed it.

Agree to disagree then, if you go into a season expecting top place without the top budget then you are setting yourselves up for failure, they may have managed it but did they expect it?

It's very rare the top budget team win the conference.

Infact I think the last time it happened was likely Fleetwood.

Crawley, Fleetwood, Luton and Mansfield all had the biggest budgets when they won it. Wouldn't surprise me if Cheltenham ended up with the biggest as well, after bring a few in in January the season they won it.

We had the second biggest, I forgot about Luton winning it to be fair, and yeah Fleetwood and Crawley did.

I highly doubt Cheltenham had the biggest, nor did Lincoln, Barnet, Stevenage in recent times.

So yeah 'very rare' was not fair to say, but it's not that common.

Who's budget was bigger than yours when you won it? Genuinely can't remember but that was the second Radford season, wasn't it? I thought it was pretty much common knowledge that you outspent everyone else? Cheltenham's squad wasn't cheap. They brought Dan Holman and a few others in in January too. Holman was the too scorer in the league at the time, I think.

Everyone thought so, but our budget was never quite up to Luton (rightly so, too)I can understand why people thought so too, considering our transfer policy that summer.

It was fucking massive though, and second by a long, long way.

Not going to argue about who had the biggest budgets because it's done to death and ends up going around in circles.

The point was unless you have the biggest budget with a decent manager you shouldn't be expecting 1st place as it's not that easy, and just because sides have done it without the resources doesn't mean it should be expected.

That team worries me. Can't actually think what formation we may be playing which isn't ideal. The one that jumps out is one we haven't ever played..so if we've spent all pre season trying different tactics then start pre season with something untried I'm worried. Have to see how it pans out..17 year old Wakefield starting also, Caldwell must have some confidence in the lad. Hope he shines

Either a back 4 of Wiseman, Evo, Hirdy and DD with a midfield 4 with Weir and Mccourt in the middle and Gozie and COG up top..

Or back 3 of Evo,Hird,Wiseman
Wing backs Dion and 1 of Wakey/Reed and three in the middle...

What's jumping out to you, looks pretty self explanatory to me?

Diamond formation that, not sure where our width is going to come from, but you'd expect us to see a lot of the ball with 3 central midfielders on

Jesus I've missed this!!

Fizzing atmosphere, breathless stuff so far.

Gozie the standout for us so far, but Dion Donohue in a world of trouble, on a yellow already and getting run ragged with this Dembele kid... The hype from the Mariners with this lad is real..

What a find.

Gutted to not be there but this new iFollow stream is doing the trick. I didn't buy into the Dembele hype during pre-season but he's started very brightly today. Pretty even so far, Chesterfield have had more chances but both teams should've at least scored once.

I just got a free one, enabled it while I logged in and then turned it off and everything works fine. Seemed a lot easier than I imagined it being, can even refresh the page without the VPN no problems as long as I stay logged in. Stream is good quality with zero buffering too.

This Dembele is different class.

0-2 doesn't reflect the game though tbh...it's been a good evenly balanced game.

Did you need to put in a non UK address for account or payment?

Couldn't make this up

It's been a great game tbf, dominated by us as I'm sure the stats will show.

Grimsby's keeper and their CH's as well as Dembele with the spark have been the difference.

Plenty of positives to take though
