Well wide of the mark, if we can’t take 100 more to you on a Tuesday night thank wjat you bring to us on a Saturday maybe we can dream on.

We’d have had a thousand easily at vale today

And so you should in the form and position you are in... I look forward to a rare busy Hamil End in March in that case.

In fairness when someone’s suggested you could bring a following “we could only dream of” which is a bit of an embarrassing post in the first place, statements like that will come back.

I wouldn’t expect a statement like that after a poor and silent away following who kept having a go for the ref for some reason when he kept booking vale after vale player for ridicous fouls after the Mansfield player had already gone past him.

Anyway, whatever who cares, the away fans in the railway were a good laugh like last season and it’s nice that some “apparently” bad fans come here and have a laugh with us

Have a look around. Make sure no Lincoln fans are listening. Lower your spectacles and peer over them at your friend.

And quietly say "you know what...it might

actually be another....

...year of the Stag."

Can’t comment on the referee as not there but in fairness the ones there felt he was a homer. They felt Mansfield’s players went down easy and every foul was a booking whilst Pope was constantly being held and shirt pulled (in fairness the image action shot shows that happening)

You’ll see one thing they will see another that’s football. One Mansfield fan suggested Vale were the better side at half time, yet another said we were in different universes! All about opinions.

His point was if we were flying and having a good season we’d have had 1500 or so today which I’d agree with that. In our promotion season we were taking 700 plus to places like Gillingham and Barnet for example. Fans are fickle of course. We’ve generally since Micky Adams took over took very good away followings especially to Midlands/North West/Yorkshire grounds up until the woeful away form kicked in a couple of seasons back. I’d argue if anything we are lucky to be getting that many after the last three years away from home!

I’d be interested to see which Mansfield fan thought you weee better at half time, as well, apart from 10 minutes from 65-75 odd, it was completely one sided.

Having seen mansfield play a physical game down the years we know the difference between a fair challenge and a complete farce of a challenge, I wish all bookings could be made public, as apart from the first booking 15 minutes in which was harsh, all were yellows. The 2 yellows the lad got were both obvious.

As said, it should have been 5 or 6-0

Port vale have been the better team but done nothing with it, we have had two chances and scored one, the other so unlucky not to in.

CJ and White the only players to have turned up, one of the worst performances of the season so far.

There you go...

Pope was moaning all the way through the game about nothing. He just needed to work harder to hold up the ball, run into one of the channels or come a little bit deeper instead of whining and complaining at every decision. Players/fans always blame the ref when there were clear deficiencies in their performance which they should be looking at first.

As said earlier in the thread Pope gets fouled constantly and rarely gets anything, that’s irrelevant as to the result. If a defender is able to pull his shirt or shove him he should be allowed to give it back! It’s generally the only way to stop him most times.

As for running into channels... that’s not really his forte! It’s up to Whitfield and Monty to do things like that and feed him!

The referee was not the reason we lost though and no player or fan that I’ve seen has suggested that.

Conker is a fair, level headed poster on here. I can only assume that it’s either a wild misjudgement or a joke

Depends how you look at it, the general view from Vale fans and press was that Mansfield deserved it but we played alright just didn’t create anything and was indebted to Brown when we chased the game for keeping us in it with ten men (which is expected surely if trying to chase the game with a man down). Most make the observation that we played far worse last season and got a point and only conceded ourselves due to a freak og.

Defensively ok, midfield didn’t create anything and Pope and Whitfield were isolated.

Looking back on it now, they definitely were better on and off the ball in that half but they did absolutely fuck all with it.

We had two moments of brilliance from CJ and one went in, but other than that we were shite in that first half and couldn’t tackle, shoot or pass correctly. I’d still say Port Vale edged the play, but only Mansfield managed to create chances so maybe ‘even’ is more fair.

I don't mean run the channels i.e. get wide and cross it, but he can at least pull a little wider or move a little deeper to hold up the ball if he is losing all of the battles and the referee doesn't deem it to be a foul. I wouldn't be happy if he was playing for us and complaining all game instead of doing anything.

Wasn't his point that Mansfield couldn't take those kind of numbers? Without checking, I'd have guessed Mansfield took similar numbers away in the Conference?

No idea, we’ve only met them in three seasons out of the last 30 odd so don’t know if they generally take 1500-2000 on 70 mile trips myself. Would be half their current home following so excellent support if so.

Well Macclesfield is more than a 70 mile trip and we took 1300 if that helps.

This is all a load of bollocks, it just boils down to Port Vale being wank, on and off the pitch in comparison to Mansfield. Get over it and yourselves.

Lincoln is 35 miles away and we sold the 1700 there a few weeks ago for the game Saturday , our away support compared to home support is usually the best if not one of the best in the league.

So this is going to be the case every week you play somebody better than you that you think shouldn’t be? It’s pathetic.

Not sure your point? As a club should any Port Vale fan be happy mid table in league Two? No of course not! Don’t think anyone has moaned about losing to Mansfield... merely the accurate point that if your owner can invest and make you competitive on lower gates than ours then it shows up the failings of Smurthwaite which is spot on. He’s neglected the club for years and fans are rightly fed up of it.

That’s not a slant on Mansfield so unsure why Mansfield fans are getting touchy on that. We are used to much better than this and expect much better than this.

Last season was the worst finish in the clubs history (founded in 1876) why should we accept that and be happy with that?

This was a thread about the game yesterday, if you want to keep chatting about how poorly Port Vale is performing under the ownership being run maybe make a separate thread about it instead of taking the focus away from the actual game of football in here.

Port Vale are a club on the decline, Mansfield are the opposite - it’s football and you will be able to swap that around again eventually.

We got mugged and had to force administration in 2012 by starving them out. Criminal proceeding a still being pursued by the fans on that one.

This one comes in, seems great then loses it completely all over a cup defeat... sacks off the squad that was top half league one... gets excited by a phone call from Mourinho recommending his mate Bruno... buys a load of Monaco, Benfica and the like kids expects Mbappe... gets Mcrappy and we go down... then keeps Michael bloody Brown to balls up last summer.

It’s been a ride!

Well we are hoping the decline has stopped now and are turning it around slowly! Decline any further we won’t exist.

It was merely in this thread as a comparison on how Mansfield have found the way to spend.

Well said, keep it to on the pitch.

From my perspective despite the two sides being poles apart , we began at 3-00 just 6 points behind the hosts.

A good intent and free flowing performance and it's possible to reduce that to 3 points.

Would of been in the mix then with a chance for a good December ( on paper ).

What followed was the expected away day dirge with no attacking intentions whatsoever.
At least for once we don't concede within the first few minutes.

Overall a simply tepid lacklustre disgusting performance.
Mansfield are a country mile ahead of us.
Apathetic fans and a fan base who simply are numb at the continual shit served up .

Mansfield by the looks of it were nowhere near their usual level either which makes our performance even scarier.
Had they been on it then it would of been a pasting.

Another great day out with 6 or 7 of us , yet again ruined by 90 minutes of utter dross

At least give it a go for once , lose 3-2 giving it a good go will get fans back on side

The away form seemed to start to turn recently, was hopefully of a competitive performance after the level of performance reached on Sunday against Sunderland. Typical Vale and think I alluded to the fact pre game on here that whenever we start to get excited we throw a shitter in! Happens every time!

Next six games are against teams below us in the table so huge chance if we can put in the performance levels of the previous couple of weeks to get a good haul, although never as simple as that is it!

Did I correctly hear that Montano was put up front and Dodds wide when they came on!!! I thought Aspo had started to get this crazy random mindfuck out of system recently!

You did indeed, Montano was thrown up front in headless chicken mode and Dodds put on the left wing.
Truly bizarre.

So did we, Montano is a winger who was converted to a full back and shocked everyone by being outstanding last season there... injured comes back and thrown on up front whilst Dodds who’s predominantly a number 10 or a striker plays out wide.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell exactly what goes through his mind!

Agreed it should be a different topic but Mansfield are a great example of where we are going wrong. Historically a smaller club who have been in the conference very recently, yet significantly out spending us in spite of the fact that we have bigger attendances and have raked in serious money through transfers.

Mansfields owner is clearly bankrolling some (if not most) of the spending, yet we have all this money (and even made a profit in our last accounts!), but could never dream of signing the proven quality that Mansfield have in the last two seasons. We'll eventually die as our owner does not want to spend and just sees us as another business to make money from.
