Agreed it should be a different topic but Mansfield are a great example of where we are going wrong. Historically a smaller club who have been in the conference very recently, yet significantly out spending us in spite of the fact that we have bigger attendances and have raked in serious money through transfers.

Mansfields owner is clearly bankrolling some (if not most) of the spending, yet we have all this money (and even made a profit in our last accounts!), but could never dream of signing the proven quality that Mansfield have in the last two seasons. We'll eventually die as our owner does not want to spend and just sees us as another business to make money from.

Oh to be a club spending well beyond its means!!

We went from a 6k profit to a £132k loss after Evans joined by the end of last year. The club is apperantly going to be put within the One Call Group to help it further, I spoke to somebody over the weekend at the game who is sorta involved and apparantly the plan is for the club to be able to compete financially near the top end of L1.

Then take in to account the fact we have just opened a £2m training facility, and plans are in place for a hotel and new Bishop Street stand, incredibly lucky. Those Haslam days are long gone.

To be a top end League One budget you’d be spending about £4-5 million a year. That’s a lot for a club with generally less than 4000 home fans... would the EFL even ratify that under the FFP?

I don’t think by top end he was thinking top three like we are in L2, it’s probably more top 10 - Crowds would be different, more home and away and most importantly One Call would pump the club with sponsorship money.

Our budget is already likely around or just above the £2m mark FYI.
