Goalkeepers
Scott Flinders
Owen Mason (youth likely loaned)

Defenders
Elliott Hewitt (ACL out untill next year)
Calum Johnson
Taylor Anderson (Youth likely loaned)
Alfie Kilgour
Baily Cargill
John-Joe O'Toole
George Cooper (youth likely loaned)
Stephen McLaughlin (out until September I believe)
Calum MacDonald

Midfielders
Anthony Hartigan
Ollie Clarke
George Maris
Stephen Quinn
Louis Reed
Hiram Boateng

Forwards
Will Swan
Jordan Bowery (Clough will play him anywhere)
Davis Keillor-Dunn (attacking mid but Clough considers him in this category)
James Gale
Lucas Akins
Rhys Oates

I’m sure if I’ve missed anyone a fellow stag will let me know.

We need a #1 GK which likely will be Christy Pym, at least one more defender maybe two considering Hewitt injury and that’s pretty much it. I’ll try a starting 11 when I have a idea Clough can be unpredictable.

Add George Williams, Christy Pym and Aaron Lewis and that’s us done, plus I think Perch is being kept around for back up. Maybe a player will leave and we sign another forward but that’s most that will happen now.

Myself along with the vast majority of the fanbase are very happy with our business this summer, my only slight concern is our cover for centre back is too old with O’Toole, Perch and Williams, but I’m very happy with Kilgour/Cargill first choice.

Hard to tell now we’ve been dabbling with a 4-2-3-1 sort of thing:

Stone
Adebayo-Rowling
Baldwin
Cameron
Chicksen
Palmer
Bostock
Nemane
McGoldrick
Crowley
Langstaff

What’s the record for the most combined goals scored and conceded in a season?

Screams top three does that. As long as you don't have a ridiculous amount of injuries again!

I watched a video earlier about a bold new tactical approach being development by Fluminese and adopted by Malmo where you don't have a formation as such but everyone just runs about like schoolboys expressing themselves. Seems like the kind of thing Williams might like.

On dreaded ‘paper’ it does indeed scream top three challenge but we’ve had a few of them in the past and still not managed!

Forgot to add Christy Pym too in net.

It feels very one-sided with Crowley on the left of the three and Chicksen at LB but it'll probably end up with TAR in the middle of the park and Bostock as a centre back or something.

Somehow I'd be finding a place for Jodi Jones in the starting eleven.

Horseman prefers a 4-4-2 apparently, although I assume he’s tactically a bit more flexible than some of our previous managers. Not sure how that would look with our squad as we have a number of CM’s and not many out and out wingers. The signings of Daniels, JMT and Taylor definitely give us more experience down the spine of the team.

Could be something like:

GK Daniels

RB Bernard
CB Innnis
CB Moore-Taylor
LB Robson

RM O’Keeffe
CM McCann
CM Jenks
LM Garrick

ST Stevens
ST Taylor

I think our starting 11 will be:
GK: Lawlor
RB: Sterry
CH: Olowu
CH: Wood (c)
LB: Maxwell
CM: Bailey
CM: Broadbent
CM: Rowe
ST: Roberts
ST: Ironside
ST: Hurst
Bench: Jones, Senior, Anderson, Close, Westbrooke, Molyneux and Miller

Yeah so would I. And Austin really. And Scott. We’ve got so many options in those positions.

Adam Chicksen’s a starter :bl:

A true heartwarming tale of mild redemption, our Chicks. He was useless for months, having been useless for everyone for years, and then just suddenly became good again one day.

Starting 11 if last night's friendly against Lincoln is anything to go by (with one or two alternatives) and if nobody else gets injured in the next 10 days.

4-2-3-1:

GK: Jake Eastwood
RB: Toby Mullarkey
CB: Harvey Rodgers
CB: Niall Maher
LB: Anthony Glennon
DM: Kamil Conteh
DM: Alex Hunt (or Evan Khouri)
RM: Harry Clifton
CM: Abo Eisa
LM: Charles Vernam (or Otis Khan)
CF: Danny Rose

Which means the club captain and runner-up in last season's player of the year award, Luke Waterfall, won't start and Donovan Wilson (the leading scorer in the pre-season to date) will be on the bench as well.
And any late new signings (expect 2 or 3 more before the window closes) are unlikely to be included either.

You started Eisa as a centre midfielder? That's wild.

I didn't watch it but surely you've got Eisa and Clifton the wrong way round there?

With O’Keeffe gone and a couple of others seemingly on the way out, think we’re currently looking something like this.

GK: Daniels
RB: Bernard
CB: Inniss
CB: Moore-Taylor
LB: McAllister
CM: Bunker
CM: McCann
CM: Jones
CM: Brown
ST: Taylor
ST: Stevens

Subs: Searle, Bennett, McKenzie, Jenks, Bell, Carter, Garrick, Omotoye,

That bench includes 4 who are 18 or under inc McKenzie who is still a scholar. We basically have 3 senior defenders, with no proper LB. So expect signings in the next week.

Up front a lot depends on whether Stevens can find his old pre injury form. Taylor should do pretty well if we give him service.

Looking at how we lined up in the 2 games on Tuesday I expect this to be our starting squad against Harrogate:
GK: Lawlor
RB: Nixon
CH: Olowu
CH: Wood
LB: Senior
CM: Bailey
CM: Broadbent
CM: Rowe
STR: Taylor
STR: Ironside
STR: Molyneux
Subs: Bottomley, Sterry, Close, Hirst, Miller, Roberts, Sonota

I'd expect 3 at the back still, at least to start the season.

GK: Stone
RCB: Rawlinson
CB: Baldwin
LCB: Cameron
RWB: Nemane
LWB: Chicksen
CM: Palmer
CM: Bostock
AM: Crowley
AM: McGoldrick
ST: Langstaff

I reckon really only RCB and the other AM spot would possibly change, assuming Baldwin is fit. I like what Austin brings off the bench but wouldn't be surprised if he started over Crowley to begin the season.

Not quite as wild as all that. Hurst's comment on the club website when we signed him: "He can play wide, as a 10 or a second centre forward, so he will add to our options in the attacking areas." He has played 10 of his 100 or so league games as an out and out centre forward and another 9 as a second striker / AM (see transfermarkt for details). I picked up a rumour somewhere (OK that sounds obscure, but ....) that Hurst sees him playing that role quite often, including on opening day. Clifton is not really a no. 10.

I fully expect us to start the formation we've played in our last couple of friendlies with 4 at the back.

GK: Slocombe
RB/RM: Adebayo-Rowling (If fit)
CB: Baldwin (If Fit)
CB: Cameron
LB/LM: Chicksen
DCM: Palmer
DCM: Bostock
LW: Jones
RW: Nemane
CAM: McGoldrick
STR: Langstaff

I saw RB/RM and LB/LM as i think both fullbacks will still play like wingbacks and push up high, with the wingers being our furthest forward players the majority of the time.

Gives us a decent bench too with : Scott, Morais, Crowley, Randall, Rawlinson, Stone, Austin, Bajarami and Brindley to pick from, which would cover pretty much the whole pitch, although i'd like another defensive ball playing CM, as if Bostock or Palmer get injured we're pretty much scuppered

see my comment answering mighty-bantam.
Everything I've read seems to suggest that it was Clifton, Conteh and Hunt in a three in the middle and Eisa and Vernam out wide against Lincoln. I guess the idea though is that the likes of Clifton, Eisa, Khan, Mullarkey, Wilson and Pyke are all quite fluid and can play a number of roles. Just not sure that we'll use a #10 when we've got a midfield three and two wide player, I think Clifton would be the most advanced but still wouldn't say that that position is necessarily a #10 style role. I'm hoping Conteh's arrival will see Hunt push up more frequently as he's wasted when he's deep, in my opinion. I see Hunt and Green being used more sparingly than the other CMs (barring Khouri who will probably play the least unless he really kicks on) with their selections based on opposition/tactics.

Based on the friendlies I think our starting line up is looking like this (although we've been giving everyone minutes so hard to say). A lot also depends on the extent of Mullins injury intially it looked like he'd be out for a few months, but some whispers coming out that actually it's not as bad as first feared.

Foster GK

Barnett RWB

Tozer CB
Hayden CB
Boyle CB

Mendy LWB

O'Connor DM
Cannon CM
Lee CM

Mullin CF
Palmer CF

Subs
Howard
O' Connell
Forde
J Jones
J Davies
Dalby
Waters

Still suggestion that a couple more faces may join (Virtue and Norwood?)

Still 1, maybe 2 to come in to strengthen the forward areas, but with a week to go we look like this:

GK - Glenn Morris, Jake Turner
DF - Max Ehmer, Connor Masterson, Will Wright, Max Clark, Robbie McKenzie, Cheye Alexander, Scott Malone, Shadrach Ogie, Alex Giles, Sam Gale, Ike Orji
MF - Shaun Williams, Dom Jefferies, Jonny Williams, George Lapslie, Tim Dieng, Ethan Coleman, Josh Chambers, Jayden Clarke, Matty McCarthur
ATT - Oli Hawkins, Tom Nichols, Ashley Nadesan, Joe Gbode, Lewis Walker, Ronald Sithole

Honestly not sure how we'll line up for Stockport. Rumours that a couple of first choice players could be injured but we'll see who's missing for the Daggers friendly tomorrow. Have put in bold my probably first 11 based on the whole squad being fit. Youth players in italics.

I think we're strong defensively, midfield (centrally) is well stocked and we have decent forwards - I think it's a top 8 squad, but not convinced it's a top 3 one without a proper goalscorer in the setup.

Why have you listed Oli Hawkins as a striker? Everyone knows he’s actually a CB.

Clough suggested we are done unless someone leaves but I think we are left short at centre back, O’Toole is injured again and never played last season, Perch may not be signing a new contract for more game time elsewhere so that leaves us with Kilgour, Cargill, and Williams who is more used to a back three and right back.

One injury to Kilgour/Cargill and our defence will be left very short.

The point was that he was mainly used at CB by Clough.

I think Jamie Walker’s our biggest diver.

We haven’t had a proper one since Tony McMahon. What a player.
