Not an authority, or anything, but thought it might be good if we could reach a sort of rough consensus on what members want out of the new forum -- where TFF went wrong, what it did right, improvements to already existing features, etc.

Here are a few of mine:

*Deleting posts should be a privilege everyone has, not just premium members. It's used responsibly on other forums, there's no reason it can't work here.

*Shoutbox, however, should be a premium members thing, or it will become unreadable.

*No c*** swear filter.

*A lax moderation policy, one that covers only the obvious stuff: spamming; racist, homophobic and sexist abuse, etc; excessive abuse of other members.

I agree with the above. As long as it doesn't cause any offence. No real need for a swear filter

I agree. We're all adults, no problems with swearing as long as its not people outright abusing each other.

I'm fine with swearing as long as it isn't excessive or offensive. If people use it moderately and where appropriate I don't mind. Personally not something I use a lot on forums anyway.

Agree with the Tapatalk comment. Although Tapatalk's latest update was poor, a majority of the time I want to post on a forum is when i'm away from a computer with only a phone at hand. An app like Tapatalk that makes accessing a forum easier is always a plus. I'd wait until the initial framework of the forum is set up though - And heard it's not the easiest thing to do?

I'd also suggest not to make it too much of a home from home of TFF. Take the necessary bits, some reminders of the past but largely move on. New members (who weren't apart of TFF) might get alienated that they are the only ones not to have the same past as everyone else.

In terms of a swear filter, would it be possible to make it optional for some of those poor sensitive souls out there? Sure TFF had that option...

I was pretty much always on TFF on my phone but I hate Tapatalk, I can't use it at all haha.

Evening, only just had chance to catch up - what a day to be at work.

I'll come back on this tommorrow, but just to say that everything such as this will be addressed slowly in the coming weeks.

I'm happy for use of language - so long as people self moderate and don't post a 5 word response that includes 4 strong expletives!

I promise nothing after a North End loss.

He's the master of League One. Relax and enjoy promotion.
Hmm, last season didn't quite work out. And if we don't get top 2 it won't be this season either. Anyway, this is the wrong place for this discussion haha.

The layout of the site is brilliant I think. As far as alienating new members goes, it will be just as if they've joined the old TFF, no need to worry.

Aye, don't understand why people use tapatalk, TFF mobile version worked great and this one seems just as good if not better in mobile form.

I agree on most points above. A lax (er) moderation policy would be good. Obviously these things need moderating well, however as the majority of us are all adults, I don't think its necessary for mods to feel they are in the position to address us like we're children, which I sometimes found on TFF. Starting as we mean to go on will be key.

Avatars that support gifs.

My poor lion.

Mine too.

Not being allowed to discuss admin/moderating on the forum used to piss me off. As long as people don't get personal and try to be constructive, I don't think this should be outlawed like it was on TFF.

One of the main factors of TFF failing was because the old admins gave up communicating with the members.

What does it mean when some members have "writer" under their name?

This was started as a blog/forum I think like Saddler's last one (The Sports Planet) was, and a couple of people signed up as writers. Don't know if it will stay this way.

Agree about the new member/TFF past thing.

As long as we don't continue to bang on about TFF in every thread that is made, I think it will be fine. I wouldn't want to push away new members just because they aren't ex-TFF.

Which one did you have in mind?

Non in particular, yet. It's more of an OCD thing with the bold thread text of something that I don't want to read!
