Stuff that should be changed or kept the same

A few suggestions:

If a significant change (like, say, removing the shoutbox), needs to be made, then it's common courtesy to give some pre-warning or (god forbid!) open it up for discussion. If things like this are properly communicated, there will be less backlash, which means there will be less shite for mods/admin to deal with. Ye olde guard never got this.

Try to avoid dishing out bans of indefinite length. Time-limited suspensions will usually do the trick. They seem less petty and despotic too, which means there will be less backlash, which means there will be less shite for mods/admin to deal with. A ban of indefinite length should only be issued when more proportionate measures have patently failed. And, in such a case, it's best to communicate this instead of building up some childishly absurd culture of secrecy about the whole thing.

As I wrote on another thread, the ability to donate more than the £5 supporter fee would be nice, as well as in the site's financial interests.

Finally and most importantly, can we poor wrestling fans get our own sub-forum within the TV & Films one, please? We're a misunderstood and often-persecuted minority. We need our own homeland. Cheers.

I noticed in the English forum there is a non-league sub forum, is that really needed now we have the proper non-league forum?

Is the English forum needed full stop? The only threads in there that don't have their own location on the site are the Cup Competitions, which could have their own forum anyway.

Recommendation to me would be to have a sub-forum in World Football for International games, just to separate German/French league threads etc with England international games and the like.

I think with the Moderation policy, it should just be a few simple guidelines, scrap the warning system, nothing wrong with a friendly chat via PM, as stated above, even from myself and my past, overzealous moderating is a thing of the past, we should be free to speak without worrying about getting warned and banned each time things get a bit heated. Were all adults after all

The best forums are the ones where you aren't really sure who the admins/mods are and the posts flow. Even if there is a bit of handbags. Admins who throw their weight around impress no one.

In terms of a swear filter, would it be possible to make it optional for some of those poor sensitive souls out there? Sure TFF had that option...

Anyone who turns on a swear filter should just have this played at them in every post there's swearing...

Conversely, the best thing about the off topic section of TFF was that it was good natured and welcoming to everyone. That was in no small part to the mods keeping it that way. Whilst over the top modding is bad, so is having virtually nothing at all.

Haha, rethinking that heavy handed policy now you don't have an axe to yield. Furious back pedalling if ever I saw it! :tomf:

New Shoutbox messages should appear at the top, not the bottom.

Also I should be the only one allowed in it.

Obviously appreciate that this will be a much further down the line one, but the rep system coming back would be pretty ace.

Yes to 90% of that - in short. Completely agree on all moderation policies. So long as people self-moderate and don't use the very strongest swear words in every single post, then I'm fine. A bit of a stricter 'no' is when it comes to homophobia/religion/racism etc - doesn't need explaining. On the topic of finances, we will be using quite a few different techniques rather than just a 'donate'. Prime example being an upgrade package (something that will be included when it comes to the shoutbox), perhaps some sort of upgrade to have your own blog. We shall be exploring 'The Store' as well - which is basically an affiliate with amazon, where we take a slice of whatever you buy providing you click through our site - so there's plenty on the table.

And yes, of corse you can have your own Wrestling section :)

I think the betting thing worked well on TFF, where the loser paid their debt to the forum.

I will speak to Saddlerrad and TB, with a view for setting that up for the New Football Season. One thing I would like to run again in conjunction with the powers that be

Yes that's something we will look at - the main focus for now is to ensure we get as many people back on board as possible and then look to what we can do to improve the site.

Just a suggestion, for forum games/prediction leagues etc can we have it show when a post has been edited (and at what time it was edited)?

Wouldn't mind a bit more contrast. The "more options" page isn't great. Splitting hairs.

It does. On the right hand side.

I have the option to hide the fact I've edited, but I assume that's only there for mods?

As far as more smileys go I have a whole bunch of football (and other) personality smileys saved, not just Heskey. Let me know if you want to upload them Saddlerrad.

Apologies if mentioned - however the facility in your own profile section to change your username once every six months or so if you wish - thoughts?

EDIT: Also, we have the 'Like' function, however I believe a 'Dislike' option which gives the post an overall green/red rating would be preferable.

Holy fuck it's John Locke. You're the man, Locke.

That being said, that dislike thing was kind of shitty in the end. Let us not forget what used to happen to poor James and some others. Just having a like thing is good enough I reckon... allows you to give credit where you think it's due, and also doesn't give us a system for just bullying people we don't like into some kind of red, thumbs down, -518657 likes circle of hell.

Agreed. I've seen the 'dislike' option on other forums and it didn't work.

On the old place when the system was in force, someone (can't remember who) had their ratings fiddled to -100000 with the title "Complete Penis" next to it.

Probs not the best feature for this place, due to abuse

Yep - I don't think the dislike idea is something that will come to frution, simple because people have an online ego and when it gets damaged, they don't like it ;). Haha, on a serious note, it's not 'best for business' I don't think. Will have a look at the official softwate site to see if I can get a rep system that reflects how many likes you have - no promises though.
