In honour of Mansfield's illustrious history (first floodlit match being one), what "achievements" can your team boast which puts others to shame. This is no place for cup wins or record scores, this is for the real nitty gritty that sorts the men from the boys in this division.

We had the first Asian captain in the football league.

The game of Risk was modelled on the D&R method of gobbling up other teams in the vicinity to make a super team.

Over to you.

The first ever match to be abandoned because of a local nutter climbing the floodlights and getting onto the away stand roof. That was against Mansfield as well, so they can claim it if they want.

First English team to beat Roma in Rome (and only the second to beat an Italian team in Italy)
Largest standing capacity of any stadium in England and Wales (possibly the whole UK, but that would be unverified)
Smallest city ever to host a top-flight club
Did the double over Everton when we were in the same division. Also beat Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and Man City in that season.
First former top-flight team to play in the Conference
First team in Europe to lose a match to the golden goal
More JPT final appearances than any other club (6)
Has any club had to play a home game further from home than we did when Brunton Park was flooded and we had to play in Morecambe?
Longest serving director in football. Our current chairman, Andrew Jenkins has been on our BOD since the 1950's

We hold the record of the longest unbeaten run of league matches in English senior football, having played 78 consecutive league games without a defeat between February 2003 and December 2004.

We are also the only club formed in the 21st century to have been promoted to the Football League.

Mumford and Sons support us (or at least the lead singer does) and he did a gig to raise us funds.

edit: Glen Mulcaire, phone hacking bastard, scored our first ever competition goal.

Beauty.

First european club to sign a player from the Indian sun continent - Baichung Bhutia, scored India's only FL goal in 2001

First team to be kicked out of the FA cup

Danny Boyle (director of Train Spotting, Slumdog Millionaire and organiser of London 2012) supports us and used to be a regular

St James Park has it's own train station. Uri Geller once buried a spoon behind the goal. We were the first team to ever play a Brazilian national side. We have the best pasties in the world.

All pretty amazing facts don't you agree.

I believe we are the first team to ever go into administration (although I could be wrong).
We are the only side to have a 100% win rate at Highbury (Yes, the Arsenal one) which even Arsenal can't boast about.
Also, I believe we were the first side to have a shirt sponsor.
We hold the record for the longest shirt sponsorship deal in British football history with 23 (?) seasons with Wirral Borough Council. It is also the third longest in Europe behind PSV Eindhoven (Which isn't going to change, is it?) and another team I can't remember.

Grant Holt lives on Warwick Road, a couple minutes away from Brunton Park, and he is rumoured to be signing for us every summer.

The only professional Cumbrian football team.

The most northern FL side in England.

Murphy - how could you!!!!!!

Think of all the great fans we have had over the years and you have to bring Wacky Jacky into it..... Very low behaviour.

You could have mentioned Tommy Cooper or Ade Edmonson. (Chris Martin doesnt count because nobodys actually ever seen him go to a match.)

Summing up the current mood at the Abbey - in 1983/84 we managed to go 31 games without a win, with David Moyes at the "heart" of our defence, and were relegated.

The following season (84/85) we were 5th of 5 teams relegated.

The following season (85/86) we finished 22nd in Div 4 (Preston 23rd).

In 1986/87, relegation was introduced for Div 4.

So as a proper league team, we share with Preston North End (and Torquay United) the joint honour of being the last teams to be saved from the non-league abyss by re-election.

The Rock is a Macclesfield fan

Legend has it he had to pick a team to support on Soccer AM, and Macclesfield came up.

Never knew Armstrong was an actual Wimbledon fan. I always thought it was a bit funny that his character in New Tricks was a Wimbledon fan despite having a broad north-eastern accent.

Very much so. He's lived in the same house in Wandsworth (not far from Wimbledon) for over 40 years.

Rumour has it that the writer of New Tricks wanted the character to be a West Brom fan, as he was, but Alun Armstrong persuaded him to change it to AFC Wimbledon.

Don't want to be the one to correct you , but someone has to do it Alan ;)

In 84/85 we finished bottom of the 3rd Division, and had a worse season than the one before that , 83/84. The season you're thinking of, when we were the unlucky ones as 5 sides had to go down instead of the usual 4, is the 94/95 one.

In the spirit of this...

We have the tallest floodlights in the league.

We were the first team to host a match on a Sunday (against Oldham in the Cup). You couldn't charge for tickets on a Sunday at the time, so entry was free with a programme, funnily enough..

First team to win a play-off at Wembley.

And of course, the only professional club in the city that invented the rules. You all owe us (ish).

Edit: I forgot that we are also the scorers of the fasted own goal in FL history. Scorerers as in the goal was credited to us - I believe Pat Kruse of Torquay was the chap who scored. May have made that name up though.

I think we were the first team from the lower two divisions to reach the FA Cup quater finals consecutively too.

We also hold the record for having the highest away following at Highbury ever.

Not sure if we still do but we did hold the record for the highest away following at Old Trafford(11,500), our ground doesn't hold that many and our average home crowd is only around 3,500 !
We are the only club with a drunk for a mascot !

I knew I was out on a limb. It was all from my limbo time, before I got the Abbey Habit, so all from Chinese whispers and flawed research. Never one to let the facts spoil a good tale.

But you only got the date wrong, 84/85 when you meant 94/95. Actually only the 8 instead of a 9 ;) Still your point's valid, as I believe it was the first time 5 went down, and we were the 5th side!
