In honour of Mansfield's illustrious history (first floodlit match being one), what "achievements" can your team boast which puts others to shame. This is no place for cup wins or record scores, this is for the real nitty gritty that sorts the men from the boys in this division.

We had the first Asian captain in the football league.

The game of Risk was modelled on the D&R method of gobbling up other teams in the vicinity to make a super team.

The first ever match to be abandoned because of a local nutter climbing the floodlights and getting onto the away stand roof. That was against Mansfield as well, so they can claim it if they want.

We hold the record of the longest unbeaten run of league matches in English senior football, having played 78 consecutive league games without a defeat between February 2003 and December 2004.

We are also the only club formed in the 21st century to have been promoted to the Football League.

I believe we are the first team to ever go into administration (although I could be wrong).
We are the only side to have a 100% win rate at Highbury (Yes, the Arsenal one) which even Arsenal can't boast about.
Also, I believe we were the first side to have a shirt sponsor.
We hold the record for the longest shirt sponsorship deal in British football history with 23 (?) seasons with Wirral Borough Council. It is also the third longest in Europe behind PSV Eindhoven (Which isn't going to change, is it?) and another team I can't remember.

Never knew Armstrong was an actual Wimbledon fan. I always thought it was a bit funny that his character in New Tricks was a Wimbledon fan despite having a broad north-eastern accent.

Summing up the current mood at the Abbey - in 1983/84 we managed to go 31 games without a win, with David Moyes at the "heart" of our defence, and were relegated.


The following season (84/85) we were 5th of 5 teams relegated.

The following season (85/86) we finished 22nd in Div 4 (Preston 23rd).

In 1986/87, relegation was introduced for Div 4.

So as a proper league team, we share with Preston North End (and Torquay United) the joint honour of being the last teams to be saved from the non-league abyss by re-election.

Very much so. He's lived in the same house in Wandsworth (not far from Wimbledon) for over 40 years.

Rumour has it that the writer of New Tricks wanted the character to be a West Brom fan, as he was, but Alun Armstrong persuaded him to change it to AFC Wimbledon.

In 84/85 we finished bottom of the 3rd Division, and had a worse season than the one before that , 83/84. The season you're thinking of, when we were the unlucky ones as 5 sides had to go down instead of the usual 4, is the 94/95 one.

We have the tallest floodlights in the league.

We were the first team to host a match on a Sunday (against Oldham in the Cup). You couldn't charge for tickets on a Sunday at the time, so entry was free with a programme, funnily enough..

First team to win a play-off at Wembley.

And of course, the only professional club in the city that invented the rules. You all owe us (ish).

Edit: I forgot that we are also the scorers of the fasted own goal in FL history. Scorerers as in the goal was credited to us - I believe Pat Kruse of Torquay was the chap who scored. May have made that name up though.

I think we were the first team from the lower two divisions to reach the FA Cup quater finals consecutively too.

We also hold the record for having the highest away following at Highbury ever.

Not sure if we still do but we did hold the record for the highest away following at Old Trafford(11,500), our ground doesn't hold that many and our average home crowd is only around 3,500 !

Us and Exeter exceeded it the year after, Oxford beat it the year after by about 500.

If it ends up Grimbsy vs Bristol Rovers it could be well over the 55K mark this season.
