In 1998/99 Bury became the first and so far only club in English football to be relegated by goals for. Rules were changed in the summer of 1998 to go off goals for and not against. Bury were the only team to be relegated by this new rule from division one whilst Port Vale who finished on the same amount of points but had scored more goals stayed up.

That summer the rule was reverted in time for the 1999/00 and has remained ever since.

This is the thread came up in a search for celeb fans, apparently Jerome Flynn came to watch us against Northampton. If we can hang on to him he'd be an upgrade from Jilly Cooper, though Jack Russell would keep his place in the starting line-up:

As mentioned before we had beaten all 92 clubs in league games with victory over Harrogate last April but now need to beat Sutton to re capture that.

As for famous fans… well the main one is obvious, also have Jonathan Wilkes, Sir Stanley Matthews (he also managed us), Phil Taylor.

Aside from that not being named after a physical place (although it’s assumed to refer to the Valley of the Ports which is in the area on the canals). Our formation is a bit sketchy, no one actually knows if we were even formed in 1876 like our badge suggests let alone why we are named as we are!

Do we still have that record or have Rotherham got it as they have been in that championship alot and can't remember them being in the top division.

We do have the unwanted record of being the only side to lose to the same non league club in 2 different Cup competitions in the same season. Scarborough in the fa cup and the football league trophy. That record won't be broken unless they let non league sides back into it.

Jack Russell spent some time with us as a coach, a few years back, think he was trying to teach our keepers how to catch the ball...there was also a painting of his opposite the lift on the top floor of the main stand, depicting our last game at The Lawn, but the last time I was there it had gone.

Just before we went into lockdown I saw George Clarke, from the tv programme Amazing Spaces, leaving the ground after a game...not sure if he had been there following Rovers or whoever we were playing on that day.
