I was going to back you strongly until you bought flat-track bully, Kyle Wootton, instead of a proper striker...I still might, just a bit less convinced.
Yeah, I agree. Notts fans were bigging him up big style at the start of last season reckoning he was off to the championship for a big fee but I have only ever seen him be bang average.

We had 300+ minutes of game time against Notts and he was ineffective, as I said - flat track bully - will bang them in against the likes of Dover and King Lynn...he got no change from Waterfall and Smith.

Waterfall must have improved last season = the season before he would have scored the goals for Wootton

I am in shock

that only one person so far is tipping Carlisle for the drop. It shows how far we’ve come.

Prepared to give him.a chance but no he's never impressed me.

IMO a fully fit and firing Quigley is a better player than Wootton. But we'll see. It's who links up with better with Madden and our midfield more than the number of goals they'll score.

Yeah I said the same at several points last season and the Notts fans always disagreed and said he was decent. He did get into some dangerous positions a few times against us but he missed a golden opportunity in the playoffs when they were 1-0 up I think that would have killed us off for sure.

This is hard. There are some teams that have obviously recruited well that should be in the playoff/auto mix. But there's no obvious basket case weak clubs that look like they'll struggle all season. Really I think most of us are a good/bad run of form of 5/6 games from a playoff tilt or a relegation scrap.

Think that's a pretty fair summary to be honest. Quite surprised how many have predicted us to finish in the bottom two given our top ten form for the second half of last season under Wayne Brown but, like you say, there are no real standout sides to struggle too much.

I don't think that we'll struggle as much as the past two seasons, but it also wouldn't be a huge surprise if we went down.

I never include my own team in these predictions - seems a bit naff. So . . .

Relegated Harrogate and Sutton

Champions - Bradford
Autos - Cobblers Mansfield
POs - Tranmere Orient Donny and Stockport

Dark horse to do well - Colchester

My hope with Wootton is that our tactics will suit him a lot more meaning those games where he was often ineffective for Notts County, usually away from home, will be few and far between.

For Notts he was often left isolated against two defenders and a high line which didn’t really suit him.

For us he’ll have Madden as a strike partner, a plethora of midfield runners, more direct balls into him as we mix up our approach play and lots of crosses (we attempted more than any other team in the NL last season).

If he can get into double figures goals wise and lead the line really well then that’s job done.

For the first time in a good few seasons, I'm struggling to pinpoint clubs who will likely to go down. Southend, Oldham, Scunthorpe, Notts County, Yeovil, Chesterfield, Grimsby and ourselves all down the years recently have had ownership issues which were quite noticeable and you could see a struggle was likely.

I can't really see that at the moment, apart from maybe Crewe who have a complete novice as a new manager as well.

Hartlepool have taken a gamble down the Scottish League route which could go either way.

Crawley I have no idea what their NFT owners are going to do, an odd recruiting process - signing some big money targets, but then deploying a scatter gun approach with the rest of their signings from Non League. Everything about Crawley right now just seems really odd.

In terms of promotion, IMO again no stand out teams. But I'd expect Mansfield, Northampton, Tranmere, Bradford and Stockport are the standout teams in terms of continuity of their squads, budgets and the quality of their managers. First time as well IMO that Salford aren't favourites - they seem to have knocked big spending transfer fess on the head and signed younger players on free transfers, but probably paying them bigger wages.

We have to be aiming for top 7 - but our squad is still a bit light. Which from January onwards last year cost us a bit. Combined with Kenny Jackett losing the dressing room.

How are the finances at Colchester United looking like this season? I remember that your club had some financial issues a few years ago due to covid or something.

Found it incredibly hard this season. Wouldn’t be overly surprised if 2nd to 17th was completely flipped.

Difficult and could easily change if some teams make a few more decent signings as it stands though I've gone for this.
