Joe Root the nearly man again, one more innings to get the monkey off his back.

Still probably been our best batsmen, maybe malan has a few more runs. Getting more than 50 in virtually ain't a bad thing is it I think he's now done it in about 18 of his last 20 matches, it can only be a bit of a mental thing which I'm certain he can overcome he's too good not too.

Indeed, he's not posting bad knocks but the difference has been his oppo has been taking decent scores and getting into the hundreds which have tipped matches in their favour. We needed Root to have a really good series to have any chance and unfortunately it's just not happened. Frustrating as their batting line up isn't anything special at all. Warners been pretty shit, if it wasn't for a no ball he wouldn't have a 100 yet either.. Bancroft and Kawaja are pish too. There's only Smith worth worrying about, likewise what they probably thought about us and Root.

Regardless of how we've batted as a team, for Joe Root to not post a 100 in this series will be a major disappointment.

I agree, he will be more dissapointed than anyone , that's what he's missed otherwise it's been a pretty standard series for him, smiths been exceptional which has put the pressure on him a lot more too.

Presumably because Bairstow didn't want one.

Yes it is but it shouldn't really be an option, if jimmy, crane, broad got out who cares, bit of a mistake by Jonny this time but at least it shows his confidence.

Probably the only chance he's had to 'dig in' this series....

Really looking forward to see Crane bowl, he's capable of some absolute peaches

Another pretty comfortable day for the Aussies. Khawaja throwing my dig at him back down my throat, looks set for a hundred.

One dead pitch has masked this being the most one sided series in history

This is worse than the last visit there, and by some distance too

How do you work that out? Last time, England lost by 381 runs, 218 runs, 150 runs, 8 wickets and 281 runs. None of the tests were even a contest. Although England will be be comfortably beaten in 4 of the 5 tests this time, they have actually been in the game for a session or two in most of the tests before the inevitable collapse. And we had the better of the drawn fourth test.

Furthermore, last time England were bowled out for under 200 6 times and only passed 300 twice - never managing 400. This time England have managed to pass 300 4 times and even scored more than 400 twice. The only time England have been bowled out for less than 200 was when they made 195 in the first test.

How can the Aussies make batting look so easy whereas we struggle..

Just simply down to the difference in pace between the 2 bowling units?

Because I'm still pissed off at waking up at stupid o'clock to watch this series

Only one more day to endure chaps. Fucking hell.

Unwanted records by Ali and Crane, what a poor, poor day. Jimmy Anderson was magnificent though considering.

Heart says a Root and Bairstow stand to drag it out all day, head says bowled out by lunch.

I'll give us an hour. Terrible tour, the reason I'm choosing to do the one dayers in new Zealand instead of the tests.

Malan has an England future beyond this series for me. Don’t waste anymore time, get rid of Vince and emerse Dan Lawrence straight into the test fold now ready for the summer. Stoneman is on very thin ice, there’s something there but Hameed is snapping at his heels and it’s only a matter of time before he gets in.

The England assistant pretty much called out for criticism the other day ..

Root having to retire twice kind of sums up the series I guess !!

Least he gave it a go.

Totally dominated and outclassed in all areas.
