Steve Dale is the villian but the EFL have done this.

Allowing a man with his history to buy a football club for £1 makes me feel sick. It’s a shame none of the other clubs will strike against the EFL - can you imagine if no one fulfilled their fixtures next weekend.

Was thinking something like that. High time that the inept EFL board were kicked out on their arses. Needs major reform.

Might need fans to start boycotting EFL games en masse to make clubs start putting pressure on though.

The wording of that bullshit EFL statement has pissed me off. I don't know how they dare. 'we've worked tirelessly to stop this, but unfortunately it's been forced onto us' or some shit. They create these kinds of situations by not doing fit and proper checks on potential club buyers in the first place.

Absolutely gutted.

Sorry Bury fans.

What is the process now? Do you enter the National League? Or will the club be wound up & the Phoenix club started?

Devastating news for everyone associated with Bury. Many clubs have come close to this but been somehow saved at the end. Always hoped, but never felt that there would be a good outcome here. Dale has so much to answer for.

Here's hoping a phoenix can rise from the ashes. Good luck to all.

Awful news. As with everyone else all I can do is offer condolences, next time we walk out at Valley Parade Bury's fans will be on my mind, we've nearly gone a few times but deep down you never think it will happen unless a club drops to non league first.

The EFL shouldn't let this happen to one of their members, shame on all who work for that not fit for purpose organisation. Change is needed before it's to late for more clubs, because Bury won't be the last.

Should be a minute's silence at all EFL games this weekend (f**k the Prem). The death of a wonderful 134-year-old club is a huge loss to lower-league football in England and should be marked in some way.

It would be especially poignant down at Plymouth, where there's obviously a sizeable former Bury contingent.

I'm hurting like a bitch
2 men responsible for this and I cannot even bring myself to name them.
EFL well, what can you say, they have to abide by company law and a rogue owner can run rings around them.
For the first time, I will stop being childish (not the day for it) and wish BOLTON all the best. I wouldn't wish how I'm feeling right now on anybody.
By peeps.
Up the 1885

To all the Bury fans on here, you have my deepest sympathies and I can only hope that this can galvanise the town and support to rise from the ashes.

The EFL showing they are not fit for purpose yet again.

Up the fucking Shakers.

Always enjoyed my trips to Bury and I am really sorry and very annoyed that this has been allowed to happen.
I sincerely hope you will be able to reform and get back in the league as soon as possible.

The heartbreaking realisation that’s it’s actually happened. No disclaimer at the bottom like Bolton’s points deduction, it’s like they just never existed. Terrible.

Sympathies to all at Bury, I couldn’t imagine waking up one morning to find my club gone. It’s genuinely, fucking awful.

Firstly, obviously, sympathies to Bury's supporters and staff.

I can't add too much to what has already been said, and many of the issues have been, rightly, raised time and time again anyway.

The state of the EFL full stop is a right mess. Full of dodgy owners, overspending, finding loopholes, money going missing etc. As I've said previously, this is all due to weak leadership from the top. The NL will just kick Clubs out of their leagues at the end of June if you don't meet their criteria (see Gateshead this season - who ironically enough were owned by a guy who put a late bid in for Bury).

Unfortunately, this had to happen. It's gone on for too long anyway and you knew the end of the road had been reached because of the names associated with the very late, new, bids.

Their local Council need to come out as soon as possible and make it abundantly clear that Gigg Lane cannot, and will not, be sold for development purposes and any planning will be rejected. That will stop people circling over the assets and reduce the value to Dale.

Also, let's not forget about Day. Dale is a chancer, we know that, but Day ran up a significant amount of the debt and mortgaged against everything that was to. Both need to be investigated.

Any struggling club with a football stadium in the centre of a town is going to be a worthwhile prize for speculators and asset strippers.

A very large proportion of that Capital Bridge debt NEVER reached the club but was paid in "introduction" fees
We got left with the whole charged on the ground and huge (£15,000) per day interest.
Run by shysters shafted by crooks killed by indifference.

Feel your pain. Been through it and it hurts like nothing else. However, don't let it be the end. Don't let a c**t of an owner take away an integral part of your life. Start again, in the jumpers for goalpost leagues, and reconnect with what you loved about football in the first place. You'll visit places you never dreamed about visiting, get nostalgic for the days when the fixture list didn't look like the timetable for a rural bus route, but meet some cracking people, and start watching football with a smile on your face again. One thing that the EFL should definitely do is make it impossible for an owner to put money into a club, then call it a loan. You either put money in or you don't. That's what did for us.

It would be nice but the EFL don't have the power to tell an owner how to run their business as long as it's legal.

I would want some sort of covenant that stops an owner separating the ground from the club but how can you make that enforceable.

They already did have a sort of way by making any profit on selling the ground not be used under FFP rules, however under Harvey they removed that rule so several clubs have now done it in under to gamble their way to the prem!

Anger and frustration are my two overriding emotions. Anger at what has happened and frustration that I have no way of helping.

Good luck in the future.

Firstly my sympathies to all Bury supporters.

All Shaun Harvey has done is leave a trail of destruction, he is scum for what he has presided over.

Oh, fuck off. I'm making an exception to my rule of not engaging with you people to point out that I've never once seen any of your fans say what happened to us was wrong, only justifications for it. Stick your crocodile tears up your arse.

Don't care if I get shot down for this (I'm an MK Dons supporter so what do I know anyway right?) but if the EFL extend Bury's deadline further it's beyond ridiculous.

Just stop dragging it out and kick them out of the league. I know it's not the fault of Bury's supporters, but they need kicking out to be made an example of to deter a repeat and for new standards to be set re: appointing new owners.

It's beyond irritating now how the EFL delay statements, hearing how much of a twat Steve Dale is......now hearing that he has informed the EFL of three new offers shortly before the deadline is just the latest annoying episode in this sorry story.

Stop messing about EFL, kick them out and move on.

Quite how a franchise customer has the temerity to post something like this, is beyond me. Talk about being kicked when you are down that Bury are out of the league and this monstrosity remains.

I know what it's like to lose your club. I was devastated by the MK move as was my then 12 year old daughter. I'll always regret not getting on board with AFC Wimbledon right from the start as some amazing stories have emerged of those early days. That's 3 months of my football club that I don't have precious memories of.

Bury fans, use this opportunity to start afresh. Create new memories and get back to the football league. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to do it in less time than it took us.

Good luck.

It’s exactly what I’d expect from a franchise supporter tbf, the only set of supporters that have absolutely no idea about football tradition and no comprehension of what it would be like to lose a proper football club at the heart of a community, it’s all alien to them.

Can you imagine any supporter of a football club, whether you’re a franchise twat or not, wanting to kick out a great club like Bury just because you find it ‘irritating’ to hear about a deadline extension.

Dont read it then. Ignore it, go about your normal day.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you sir are a f*cking pr*ck.

Fuck. I was hoping they'd find a way out of this, Bolton too.

Shakers fans have my deepest sympathies, from someone who knows first hand what it feels like.

An empty feeling reading the headlines and sadness for the town and everybody connected with the club. The gulf in football ( and society ) has never been greater, take away the grass roots from league 1 down to non league and you have nothing. I am sickened along with every descent football fan in this country by what has been allowed to happen to Bury , and the worst thing of all is nobody in what ever position is accountable, f.....disgusting

What are the chances that the FA and EFL become far more involved in Bolton's case than Burys?

Bolton are probably in an even worse position going by what little has been shared. The craziest thing about Bury's situation is that Dale effectively gambled and lost that he could sell on the asset. Crazy that he was allowed to get away with it

For those shrugging shoulders and asking what the EFL could / should do - look at France. The French authorities there audit the leagues teams. There's no reason that they couldn't update their league rules to include something that audits every team and effectively punishes those that break the rules. This could include points deductions, transfer embargoes, and ultimately explusion. Yes you can say the league has done this at Bury but its always been reactive, not pro-active. The fans are always the ones who suffer but if they were quicker to impose these kinds of measures, hopefully the situation would never get as bad as it did at Bury. The loan situation with Gigg Lane is effectively what has killed Bury FC. This should never be allowed to happen

It's a weird feeling, I've disliked Bury FC over the last seven years on account of their spending beyond their means and subsequently crying poverty. Their fans were quite content to celebrate (usually on our pitch of course!) but I guess who wouldn't as a football fan. And that's the bit that's hard to take over this - whatever you think of Bury FC, it's the fans who have been screwed over and the idea of it happening to my club isn't worth thinking about.

The FA and co will proceed to do nothing about this. Bolton will probably survive, and clubs will continue to spend beyond their means. My only hope is one day a premiership club goes under, as that's probably what it'll take to get their attention. "It's only little Bury, they don't matter." Fuck the lot of them.

For the integrity of the league one season, it was the right decision to expel them as it was getting too late to guarantee they would not fall too far behind with matches to play
Even if they were taken over this week there was no way that they could just turn up and start playing from the scheduled match on Saturday meaning they would be at least five matches behind.
I, however, believe total expulsion from the league was a mistake and they should have been suspended from the league until next season with an automatic relegation to league two.
This would result in the same outcome we have now with 3 going down from league one and 4 coming up.
This would give them 8 months to find new owners who could be fully vetted for sustainability.
If this was still not enough time for them to be able to start the 2020/21 league 2 season (again with a -12 start) by May the league could expel them then and adjust the league two back to 24 teams with an extra promotion from the VNL and so on down the pyramid.
