Good to see Stokes back. Shame Ali is ahead of Rashid again!

Really don't like Root at #3, as we always lose an early wicket.

I don't understand the logic of moving our best batsmen from the position where he has scored most of his runs

I appreciate the talk of cranes on TMS, especially as it's one of my company cranes

The Root batting order thing is a complete non-debate. He's easily in the top 3 batsman in the world and will score a shit load from 3 or 4. He's practically been playing three for ages anyway with England's succession of shit top order batsmen.

I think both first innings scores will be huge here, just have to hope this wicket wears out for Day 4

164-1.

That's more like it England. Pedestrian cricket, boring to watch, however in this innings, defensive batting and bad balls given the treatment where they present themselves is what has been key in this innings so far. No reaching out with the bat. Nice and disciplined.

Vince does have some lovely shots in his locker.

I'm finding myself really rooting for him to get a good score, I think there's a place in this side for him if he can just work on his concentration. He's up against a good attack this series and he'll learn a lot from it and if he can post some decent scores it'll do wonders for his confidence.

Vince gone cheaply, but Root brings up 100 with a lovely clip through the left side. Cracking knock.

Vince has one innings left, then it's time to give someone a go who's scoring runs consistently at domestic level.

Unless you get a snorter like Hales answer Cook did you shouldn't be getting out on this wicket in the way Ballance and Vince have. You've got to give them longer though as much as I think Vince isn't cut out for this (Hales neither, I've watched him for long enough at Notts to always know that) Anyone who suggests Hildreth given all of Englands young talent needs a slap too.

Great work by Root and Cook. Vince and Ballance need to really up their games in the 2nd innings as they have given their wickets cheaply yet again.

Good base to build on for England though. I would be looking at upwards of 600 from the first innings and then look to take 20 wickets

Upwards of 600? Seriously? We'll reach 500 tops and that'll depend on Root going on to a double and Bairstow continuing his form. Stokes will give his wicket away after a quick 30

Having won 0 of our opening 5 t20 matches were now in with a great chance of qualifying for the quarter finals. Remarkable turnaround

Things are effectively still in our hands, win our two remaining games and we're through in 3rd/4th, and in a one-off QF, I'd fancy our chances against anybody

On about Kent btw

A win for Lancashire tonight and if I am reading the table right they can actually still mathematically qualify although the number of teams between them and 4th spot would make it pretty impossible I assume

You've only got 1 left and have numerous teams in between so looking likely your out

The Sky game wasn't much of a contest with Glamorgan being on top for pretty much all of the match against a poor Somerset side

If you beat Warwickshire though and that does end up in a draw then your through

Shows how tight the group is that we still have an outside chance of qualifying even though we are next to last going into the final games

 The sage of English cricket speaks... You play your best players and at 31 Hildreth is hardly a pensioner. He's consistently been one of the finest batsmen in the county game for years and certainly deserves a chance even at his great age.
Who's going to be administering this slap btw?

Nye Donald needs to be in the Lions team at worst in the winter. The lad has a ridiculous amount of talent, though I wouldn't go as far as Vaughan and say he's a future England captain though.
