Well that didn’t last long despite some last minute hitting from Moeen Ali.

Pink ball and a day night test might give us more of a chance next time.

Anderson , Crawley and Bairstow to come in ?

What do people think of Archer.

I must say overall I've been a bit underwhelmed.

Clearly got the pace and aggressive in his style but has he got that control outside of wickets that suit him ?

His bowling is all right, but I was expecting a few fireworks with the bat, but he rarely seems to last more than a few balls (not as good as Anderson) and he can't catch for toffee apples.

Don't know why but thought he might be better at batting but guess not so far.

Means we do have a long tail unless an Ali or Bess get a good knock.

Archer’s First Class batting record isn’t too bad. He looks like a genuine number 11 so far though.

I think that’s why they were so desperate to play Bess in the summer v Pakistan and West Indies otherwise you’d end up with Archer or Leach at number 8.

He's one of the best fast bowlers in the world and he'll only get better if he stays fit. His batting has disappointed a bit so far. I'm not expecting him to be a genuine all-rounder but I think he's got the ability to score more runs.

Archer`s bouncer is nasty and Ashwin in particular doesn`t fancy it. Get him in.

I reckon they’ll go something like below for the next test:

Burns
Sibley
Bairstow
Root
Stokes
Pope
Foakes
Bess
Leach
Broad
Anderson

unless they bring someone like Curran or Woakes in for Lawrence... but that makes the batting pretty weak with either of those at number 7.

I think Broad and Anderson are rotating, so won't be in the same side.

Interestingly Broad got no wickets in the last test, but Jimmy did very well in the first.

As soon as I saw the side for this 3rd test I thought how weak the team looked. Just one spinnner and a part timer. Archer listed to bat at 8. 2 wickets down by the 6th over seems to have proved me right.

Crawley in particular and Root doing well but loads of spin already.

Joe might be doing a lot of bowling too.

Both gone before the tea break.

81/4 and not a lot of batting left.

Pity Moeen had to leave.

Hell they're not going to make a 100.

Lots of poor batting.

Utter dismal display.

Lowest ever first innings score in India.

They even won the toss.

Crawley apart they should all hold their heads in shame.

I think India will just bat England out of the game over the next 4 or 5 sessions and then complete an innings victory.

Quite possibly before the end of day 3.

Close - did Stokes drop that or just not get enough to it ?

Difficult to tell from the angle given but probably not enough under it

They should have had another angle of that catch. The ball seems to have stopped swinging and Anderson limping- Oh dear!

The fact Leach has been our most dangerous bowler shows we have made an error only having one spinner.

Our batting isn’t coping anyway so really we have no chance.

What a fantastic start to the day.

impressive bowling so far.

Gives us a chance if we can manage to cope with their spin.

Hail Captain Joe.

That morning session has brought me out of a blue mood.

Sorry England I underestimated our glorious captain's bowling. He's definitely got to be considered an all-rounder now. And credit to Jack Leach too.

Shit ~~~ not a great start to our reply.

Think that is it.

Root gone now and only 30 ahead.

Is Axel that good or just lucky with the pitch ?

A bit of both I think. His 18 wickets in two tests have cost less than 10 runs apiece.

Probably helped by us looking so hopeless.

And guess it will be the same in the 4th test.

Guess Dom Bess will play.

Can't understand Archer's inclusion in the team. Pity Moeen wasn't available.

Archer 1 wkt and definitely a No 11 batsman. Struggles with his fielding too.

His slingy action means that the ball is rarely going over the top of the stumps and with a pitch where the same ball can either grip and turn square or slide straight on he is very difficult to play. Root bowled similarly,
