As annoying as D/L is are there are viable alternatives to it?

Stokes and Roy need to put on a partnership of 70+ here

I know there's the argument of prolonged batting etc - but if NZ scored at 5.6 throughout their innings, why not just say England have to score at the same rate throughout their 26 overs to win the game?

It would make just as much sense as this bullshit Duckworth Lewis method.

Because the longer you bat for, the harder it is to maintain that rate. New Zealand had to bat assuming that it was a 50 over game and therefore they couldn't go all out to score as many runs as they could in 26 overs.

Taking it to an extreme, if it was a 10 over match, it wouldn't seem fair it the team batting second only needed to score 56 with 10 wickets to do it.

Roy's hands are a disgrace, he's either got really poor timing or he's got the weakest wrists an opening batsman has ever had

I stated that, and as much as a farce as that would be, it'd make more sense than Duckworth Lewis, which makes absolutely no sense.

Although for this situation - can't put it all down to Duckworth Lewis, we've batted absolutely appalingly and brainlessly in this innings.

Having less power plays makes a difference too.

At the end of the day though, the way we've batted so far is stupid and that'll be why we lose. Whether that's because the players feel they need to slog it and are giving away wickets or not.

Where DL falls down is like at the Oval where there aren't many overs remaining and the revised target is disproportionate as it places too much weighting on wickets.

This target isn't unfair in my opinion but we've gone about it a reckless manner as if we need to score 7.5 runs for 50 overs.

Jason Roy is an absolute mess. Tell him to fuck off back to Surrey and learn how to hold a bat straight.

Stuck between wanting Billings to fail miserably but also relying on him to produce something here too. Ffs

This new bowler that NZ has looks like that massive girl off the Inbetweeners where Simon and Tara set up Will and the girl to go on a double date with them to the mall and cinema.

What a twat.

Bairstow doing alright.

Not getting my hopes up - as soon as these two go, there's not much in behind them.

Bairstow's a good player, be interested to see how he's progressed against the short ball since his last England stint

Billings gone.

Useful knock, but probably not enough. Needed to stick in there a bit longer really.

Excellent win - talk about taking your chances.

Well done Bairstow for coming in and producing the match winning innings!
