This is fantastic batting from these two. Just knocking singles all round the circle and whenever McCullum brings another man in to stop it they target the gap on the boundary. So simple but so effective.

We might have a tough summer as Australia are in imperious form. So let's enjoy this. England (remember the World Cup 2 months ago) are currently making chasing 350 vs one of the great ODI sides look easy.

The whole World Cup campaign just looks like such a massive missed opportunity now .

It's fine. Apparently just 1,444 days til the next one.
Amazing what a mentality shift does. See ball hit ball

I don't see a particularly special player in Roy, some real technical issues when the ball is swinging and doesn't play anything straight particularly well (short or full), not a great timer of the ball either, just seems to get by because he's got enough strength and aggression to clatter bad bowling.

Still young obviously though but needs far more technical work than the rest of these young England batsmen

I share your concerns but I think there's enough there to justify a proper run in the side. There's definite issues, but he's new to international cricket so that's normal. He's got out a couple of times where he's picked out a fielder, but they were shots that he was well within his rights to try, especially if we want our openers to play like this...

Root goes to 50. One thing about Joe Root that makes him different to the rest of the order...he actually accumulates his runs so seamlessly. He just drifts through to 50 with consumate ease so frequently.

He's just class isn't he?

Just such a good innings from Morgan. Combination of good running and some immense power hitting.

238 after 30 overs says it all to me. Going by the double your score at 30 overs rule, we coulda have pushed for 450 here had it been required. Simply outstanding.

Chased 350 with 6 overs and 7 wickets spare. My English brain can't comorehend that.
Also casts a spotlight into just how well Finn and Wood bowled! wood has to be 3rd seamer for the ashes

Shame I missed that. Just caught the end, but have been keeping an eye on it - great entertainment.

5th ODI set up perfectly. Fantastic run chase that, done in some style.

I got that wrong then. Is was pretty easy as well in the end.

Oh for the days of a solid 270 with the likes of Cook, Trott, Ballance etc.

England in this series:

Highest score batting 1st
Highest score batting 2nd
Largest victory
Highest ever run chase

Incredible.

Typically go to training at the end of their innings and come back and have missed it all

You often hear people claim that a coach is irrelevant in cricket. I suggest this series indicates otherwise. We'd never have been like this under Moores.

It definitely does, just like the Aussies when Lehman took over, new coach, new ideas and a different style of play. England are picking the right players to play this brand of cricket.

Buttler has the same aura about him, for all his big hitting his ability to accumulate runs is phenomenal.

A year ago I fell out of love with the England team. Never watched them, hated the play, gone off all the players, it was all pretty shocking and terrible. Now, love it. They've got a fan back. Haven't missed a game yet this series and it's been brilliant.

Bring on The Ashes. What a summer this is going to be.

GLORY HUNTER.

Agreed, but there's just something about Root. You see him walk to the wicket with a cheesy grin on his face and before you've finished a cuppa he's waving his bat for 50. It's like he floats through innings so easily. He will go on to fit in the record books for England IMO.

What an immense run chase. Astounding. Although Flower was successful to a degree in the ODI game, it's night and day between that style and how we are playing at the moment. If anyone lives in the north east, get yourself down to the game on Saturday! Great day of entertaining cricket.

I don't know what the record is for most runs in a ODI series but there cannot be too many with more than the run feast England and New Zealand have served up!

Credit to both sides for such attacking displays of power and aggression.
