I have no issues with this. This is how you learn. However you look at it, we still passed 300. We've progressed well, but will stumble from time to time

This.

Easy to get carried away when we've been close to two 400+ scores. As you say, it's no mean feat for a new looking side to post 300 against a good NZ side.

It's a great game cricket, you never know how the game is going to go until both sides have batted/bowled.

Brainless stuff from Buttler, Stokes and Willey. There's positive cricket and there's trying to hit every ball for a boundary when you don't have wickets in hand.

Really poor last few overs there but this is going to happen from time to time, especially if we're going to play in this manner going forward (and i really hope we are). Live and die by the sword and all that shit.

A couple of months ago, this would have been considered a great score for England we were that backwards thinking.

Lost be 3 wickets in the end after a stunning partnership between Taylor and Williamson. A cracking effort agin though. We were 30 or 40 short, but still battled til the end

Could have won that game . 4 dropped catches !!! That needs sorting but good from england overall , positive if a bit reckless with the bat ( but that's the modern game ) and good with the ball especially wood . Fast and aggressive, just what I want from our quicks . We go at them again Wednesday and I'm looking forward to it .

If only we had seen the last 6 overs out, who knows. I think NZ got a bit comfortable and didn't really put the foot down assertively enough until the end. If we had held our catches, who knows.

Excellent from Wood yesterday hopefully we have found a potential bowling gem in all formats of the game.

Mo Ali sent back to Worcestershire to get ready for the Ashes, and only bowled 6 overs today :/ this is our front line spinner? Re-think needed

6 overs, 0 wickets and then a single figure score with the bat. Doesn't bode well for him really. A ton for Ian Bell though and Cook got 80 for Essex, so definetely a few positives to pick up on.

Good to see Bell back in the runs.

With Saeed Ajmal back in the side Moeen was never going to get much bowling back at Worcester unless the games happened to be played on a real bunsen.

7fer on debut for Matt Carter yesterday. Only turned 19 less than 3 weeks ago. Awkward off-spinner to face because of his height so it'll be interesting to see how he gets on this season if given more game time, with the state of spin bowling in this country any promising young spinner should be treated like gold dust.

Both sides have remained unchanged. NZ have won the toss and will bat first. Rain expected for a period at some point this afternoon, probably around tea time.

English groundsman really aren't keen on bowlers in this series. Could be another whopper coming.

How long should new players in this side be given to have a chance (like Roy and Billings) 1 good innings each so far, should they be given beyond this series if they don't contribute again or should a quick boot be given?

Yeah, I'd fancy myself to get some runs on this pitch, and I'm in horrific form.
Can you beat 1 score in double figures this season?

For some reason my club have decided that its a good idea in a league team that if you bowl you bat down the order. So despite being one of the best batsman in the side I'm batting at 9/10 because I open the bowling.

Got McCullum! Now clamp down on them

I started with a 26 and a 31. Since then I've had 4 ducks and a 15. Can't hit the ball for some reason.

I've felt good generally, but my only score above 10 was in a T20 where I was dropped first ball and went on to hit 35, other than that I haven't really been batting much.
