Are the lack of runs from Cook becoming a worry? It's been a little while now and he hasn't looked comfortable so far in SA. Even without Steyn and Philander, I'd suggest we may be in trouble after this test... (AND IN THIS ONE)
I feel better now. Hopefully you've reverse jinxed it again and we're safe

I wouldn't worry too much about Cook just yet, he scored 263 8 innings ago and has scored 2 fifties and a 49 since then. He'll be ok.

Yeah, true. Just worth keeping an eye on, we definetely don't need him out of form. Even though, looking at next year, we should win both series in our home conditions with relative ease, especially the warm up series.

If I was Cook here I'd tell us to bat another 10 overs sensibly and then go for it - make them bowl the entire overs, smack boundaries and regain a little bit of momentum, see if we can get Bairstow up to near another ton and 50 for Ali. Really rub their noses in it.

In hindsight, we should have continued batting on the other day with these pair at the crease. Really ground them down, made a truly eyebrow raising score.

Test cricket really is going to suffer if bad light delays and ends interesting matches. Rain I can understand but not something that can be solved by floodlights (which modern stadia should all have) and a different coloured ball.

Apart from 3 hours on day 2 what a wank test match. Iv not even been the last 2 days as it was a complete waste of time. So moving on from the cricket a football match at cape town stadium on friday night which is £2 to get in. Then a trip to kenilworth for the races on saturday. Followed by watching blades on tv at old trafford.

It looks like Amla has resigned as captain of the Saffers. Not massively surprising - he's a superb batsman but captaincy doesn't really seem to be his thing.

AB Devilliers now I should think. Guaranteed his place and just seems the type .

Dale Steyn still injured.

Seems to be no real issues with England.

Some interesting SA team news with De Kock out with a late injury and Dane Piedt left out in favour of an extra seamer.

Only just switched on but after 2 overs I can tell, either they have been lucky to only be 1 down, or we have bowled poorly. Cloudy morning, quick track, the ball nibbling around. This is NOT a very good start scoreline wise. England won't bat well on this wicket.

Amla has chopped on twice in the last couple of overs and both times it's missed by inches.

We have bowled poorly and been unlucky that the occasional good ball hasn't brought more. Anderson and Broad (sickness) have been way off form.

Are neither of them very well? I heard that Hales may not be very well, but both of them were supposed to be okay last night.

Du Plessis just gifted us a wicket with a TERRIBLE shot! If he was English Boycott would have had the sword out for him. Absolute gimme that. Definitely on top now.

They love a run out the South Africans - I still feel we will be made to pay for our poor bowling performance in the first session.
We're definitely on top, but you can't judge it until both teams have had a bat on it. Hoping the conditions aren't as they were this morning, otherwise we'd have definitely struggled on that.

Every wicket has came in the first over of a bowlers spell - make of that what you will.

South Africa doing a great job of contributing to their own downfall here. Excellent couple of sessions for England.
