Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Team is quite simple to predict bar an injury regardless of performances Tuesday.

Gillespie
Atkinson Raines Grainger
Joyce
Miller Kennedy Hery Brough
Asamoah Ibehre

I just don't see the changes cufc17 thinks about.......unless Atkinsons injury was bad from misweek.

Switch Asamoah for Osei IMO, gives us something different in terms of being both strong and quick plus he'll be buzzing after his goal and assist on Tuesday.

Atkinson was having muscle spasms so that'll probably keep him out for a game as a precaution but I wouldn't have thought it'd be any longer than that, Troy coming in wouldn't be too much of a problem though would it.

Besides that I'd say that team's about right, we've got great competition in centre-mid at the moment but I think those three just about prevail as the best choices. Hery and Ibehre are the first names on the teamsheet for me, great to see them making such an impact straight away.

We won't conced more than 2. Although legge has a sickness atm, hoping he's fine for Saturday as he plays a massive part in defence.
With respect you don't know that.
You have good players at the back but we're not talking about world class defenders here.

I don't understand the Dicker love-in (sounds a bit wrong that, I promise it's not) amongst most Carlisle fans. I thought he played reasonably well on Tuesday, but so did the other central midfielders. Some people on our forum make him out to be a top player, and one of our best players. I'd still rather see Joyce play instead of him.
Agreed. I did think he had a really good game on Tuesday but absolutely no way was he man of the match over Hery.

I do however think his performance was good to enough to merit a starting place for Saturday. But then again Joyce was good at Mansfield. I don't know.

If Atkinson is out, I reckon we'll see miller switch to RCB and McQueen in at RWB.

I think Troy should play though, to deal with Corr and their other giant shit houses.

Interesting interview with Hery after the game, he was adamant that he didn't deserve man of the match and that he should be doing better. He also said he hasn't been properly fit since he came over from France due to the style and tempo that he'd got used to over there. If this is the case then expect him to get better and better as the season goes on, could be an early shout for our player of the season going by what we've seen so far.

I thought McQueen at RWB was absolutely superb against Chesterfield, but I've also been impressed by Miller. IF Atkinson has a minor injury, I think that's how we'll line up defensively.

I'd also start Wyke ahead of Asamoah, I know he had a bad game but he was up against Ian Evatt. Asamoah may well start, as he'd probably form a decent strike partnership with Jabo.

Although I think in Kennedy, Joyce and Hery we've probably got our midfield three set, I think my man of the match against Chesterfield was Angelo Balanta. He just put in such a solid performance, he was decisive and moved the ball forward positively I thought. Looked like he'd been playing teams at Chesterfield's level for years.

And to think he wasn't even starting regularly for Bristol Rovers last season a league below. Maybe just needed a kick up the backside which is certainly what Curle will have given him, especially as he knows how good he can be from his QPR days.

Maybe he was a winger at Bristol. I thought he was a winger when we signed him. Seems much more at home in the centre.

Just stuck £25 on Cambridge at 7/4. Hopefully I'm wrong about this.

Why are you so confident we'll beat you? My heart is saying away win, my head is saying draw.

Just think your physical side and height will be too much. We're a small team this season, well our likely starting 11 is. We only have Raynes, Brough and Ibehre of the likely starting outfield players who are over 6 foot.

That nob Keith Curle is trying to say we play long ball. Of course we can mix it up and go route one, however, if he had us watched in pre-season, against Newport or at Rotherham I think it's clear we are playing football.

That would suggest they couldn't afford to send a scout.

I think if your manager has any sense, he'd try to play route 1 as much as possible today. It's about exploiting a teams weaknesses and our weakness is a lack of height.

I think your manager is quite experienced so will no doubt know this. I'd be very surprised if you didn't use these tactics at times today. I know I would if I was in charge of a team of 6ft 3 players against us. Our manager is probably expecting it.

I don't know why you're being so touchy about it to be honest. Of course we can afford a scout ffs :ffs:

If you have sent one then I assume he got a whore in on the M6 and didn't actually make it.

Do I really need to explain it? Read the previous posts and your managers interview on us.

There's absolutely no where that he's said you're a long ball team. He's said you're a physical combative team. Is that not true? That's a compliment is it not? You have a big, physical players (that's a fact). He's said if we try to get into a physical game with you we'll lose (true). He's said we have to stop you getting good quality into the box (understandable given the height differences), it's already been mentioned in this thread how strong you are from set pieces.
I don't know why you're getting your knickers in so much of a twist about this.

As I've said further up, if your manager has any sense he'd try to actually go direct against us. Exploit our obvious weakness. You might out football us, who knows, but imo your best bet is doing us with balls into the box and balls over the top.

It's the big one, the CUFC derby is almost upon us..........Although I think we're well capable of getting the 3pts at the weekend, I reckon Cambridge will be tough opponents who will have a successful season.

I'm expecting a good crowd following our efforts in the League Cup, and the fact it's our first home league game.

I'll predict a 2-1 win, Ibehre and Hery.

Also, enjoy your trip to Cumbria Habbinalan, though I hope you aren't celebrating come 5pm on Saturday :bye:
Successful trip so far has delivered scorching Rydal Sheepdog Trials, stunning Brampton Bee-eaters and stupendous range of quality ales at astounding prices. Only need 3 point this afternoon to round off the trip.

Radio Cumbria were sounding very bullish on the way up - considering the team scraped a full-time draw and win in extra time against threadbare relegation favourites Chesterfield. ;)

Heading out for some pie related sustenance, to be followed by liquid courage at the Beehive.

Looks like we're lining up 3-5-1-1, with a side set up to dominate possession:

Beasant
Coulson / Roberts / Taft
Omozusi / Berry / Keane / Newton / Dunk
Donaldson
Corr
