I'm sorry but Rooney should have scored at least a hat-trick today. Getting the winner or not, he should have put this game to bed long before Slovenia equalised.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

Step forward Wayne Rooney critics right this moment please.

He missed several very good chances and finally put one away when it was laid on a plate by a badly made tackle. He was in the right place at the right time but has overall been poor today.

Well the only highlight was Wilshire have the bottle to go for goal fair play to him as i think he is a bit weak but ate my words slightly

the rest were shite and would get murdered by a decent team

The Lallana sub changed the game, we looked much better with more creativity up the pitch.

Yay! 3 good points away to the 2nd place team.

Hodgson got it wrong at the start, he at least fixed most of the problems when he got more support for Rooney and also dropping Henderson from the midfield.

We continue to slide down the rankings because we are shite. The whoppers on here will still think we have a chance in the tournament, the same ones who will smash shopping windows on their way home singing the national anthem with tears in their eyes after we go out in the group stage.

Fair play to Wilshere, two fantastic strikes and a good game overall.

I'll make sure to slag him off more often.

Yeah exactly this. I said the other day that a team with Milner, Henderson and Lallana doesn't have enough different abilities in it to be effective. However, Roy then brings Lallana on with Henderson playing in a different position and Milner not on the pitch and he looks a lot better for it. Personally, I think Lallana as a sub is a better option anyway. When you want a goal, he's good at getting on the ball in the final third and moving it quickly and intelligently to break down defences.

Deserved win for England all things considered. Should have been 1-0 up before they scored off Slovenia's only chance in the first half. I mean, you can't legislate for Cahill making such a brainless decision to let their guy in.

Ok, took 2 unbelievable Wilshere strikes to get us back in it, but had Rooney packed his shooting boots and we made some better decisions in the final 3rd(looking at you 2 Sterling and Townsend!) we'd have been home and hosed. They scored with their only chance of the 2nd half(a 2 in 2 conversion rate, pretty impressive to be fair) and great response to grab the winner, even if it came from some good fortune.

Credit to and critical of Roy. I can see why Jones got the nod over Clyne, despite me disagreeing with him. But when Joens went off and we were 1-0 down, Clyne should have come on to give us some punch down the right hand side. Henderson at RB? Didn't cost us today, but he can't seriously be thinking that is the way to go in the long term, same with Jones. Give Clyne a proper look in to prove he is worthy of making that RB slot his own.

But other than that, I don't think he did much else wrong. He can't legislate for the 2 brainless defensive mistakes made by Cahill and Gibbs. Bringing on Lallana made a real difference, he really carried the ball and gave England a number 10 which we needed. Walcott also made a difference as it was his presence which caused the mistake which led to the winner.

Should have been more comfortable than it ended up being. Played some good football despite the mediocre opposition. Thats top spot sealed. Now need to properly build for 12 months time.

If we're going to play one up top, at least one midfielder needs to play high up the pitch to stop the striker from becoming isolated.

Whoever that player is, we know it's not one of Delph, Henderson or Milner. So why we've started two games with that very set-up is worrying. Hopefully Roy has learnt his lesson, although I wouldn't be surprised to see the same midfield three in the next game.

EDIT: Also people are being way too harsh on Gibbs... a 'brainless mistake'? He was beaten in the air by a bigger man. He could have maybe done more, but he's always second favourite against Pecnik. You stop the cross first and foremost.

When was the last time England scored a goal as good as Wilshere's second?

Thought Sterling and Wilshere were the two best players on the pitch. Sterling wasn't getting the final ball/shot quite right but his touch and class is obvious. Whatever Liverpool get from City for him won't be enough.

Delph was pretty good too.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
Yeah, some good stuff there and some poor stuff. Made hard work of it, have too many players who are a bit 'samey' and seem to get rattled by fairly simple balls into our box. Gibbs attempt at challenging for the second goal conceded was pathetic.

Some nice bits of flair from Lallana and Wilshere, for all of Delph and Henderson's industry, we need all the creativity and gile we can muster.

We are what we are, not world beaters, but not terrible either. Meh, hard to get all that worked up about.

Pleased to see Wilshere finally get some goals, and they were both crackers. And Rooney scoring again is obviously great.
