Restarted FF13 yesterday, I had an 18 hour save from a couple of years ago but barely remember any of it so might as well start afresh.

Played about 3 hours worth last night, just beat the Manasvin Warmech boss in Lake Bresha.

Snow is an extremely lame character.

I thought Vanille was by far the worst tbh,
Shame as well since near end game she becomes extremely useful (best saboteur)

Vanille is the worst character in the entire Final Fantasy series.

No-one is worse than Vaan.

Vaan is shit admittedly, as he adds nothing to the story and was only created for the Japanese teen audience. Basch was supposed to be the main character which would have made a lot more sense.

Nobody can be more fucking annoying or stupid than Vanille, though.

Imagine if they made a crossover Final Fantasy.
Where the villains were Queen Brahne and that weird blob thing that owned Balamb Garden.
and the party was Vanille, Hope, Yuffie, Vaan, Gau and Prince Edward

He's annoying
Full of tacky stereotypes and never shuts up about Marlene, also the prison part of FF7 was easily my least favourite bit

Barrett is a Don, I loved all the characters in 7 though.

Yeah caring for his adopted daughter is a bad trait.

Actually, reading about it, it seems like Square Enix are doing everything in their power to kill off everything I love about Final Fantasy.

Third-person shooting, free-running, real-time combat......as little 'fantasy' as possible...

Never said it's a bad trait, but not something I care about in a 1FF, especially when said character also happens to be a terrorist

Vanille is/was badly annoying. I never bothered using her in XIII unless I was forced to. Lightning, Hope and Fang ended up as my final team both times I've finished XIII

Decided of the 3 1FF's i've started but havent finished (4,5 and 6) I'd try to finish FF4 off since i'm furthest through it,
Did the usual 'load save file and have no idea what i'm supposed to be doing', turns out I already beat Golbez and shadow dragon which i don't remember doing, now i'm on the moon.

11 hours into FF13 and Vanille doesn't grate on me as much as I remember, mainly because she's usually talking to Sazh, who is a great character. I'm on Chapter 6, just leaving Sunleth Waterscape, on my way to Nautilus.

The linearity of it all does wear thin at times but i'm determined to power through it.

Nautilus was cool, I found there was a major slump towards the middle of the game (in particular i remember a junk yard like setting and a white forest) but it picks up later, and towards the end I actually really enjoyed it

I went through there last night (Vile Peaks & Gapra Whitewood), was a bit of a chore, I agree.

Coincidentally both Lightning and Hope sections aren't they?

Mainly yes, although Sazh and Vanille do part of the Vile Peaks bit before moving on to the Sunleth Waterscape.

Not yet, may have done on my previous save, although if he is annoying as you say then I would probably remember.

I quite like lengthy, frustrating boss battles though.

The Palumpolum part of the game is quite good, fairly challenging, a decent boss and quite a fair bit of story progression.

Can't remember what point I gave up last time round but I'm guessing it wasn't long after this bit.

Encountered my first annoying boss last night, the Eidolon, Brynhildr at the end of Chapter 8.

Was getting seriously pissed off and kind of cheated when I finally beat him by going into the battle using Aegisol and Fortisol.
