Just looked at some of the attendances as well macc only average 1,700 this year! Blimy. Just goes to show what a great job the chairman management and players have done, pretty similar to Barnet and Morecambe in league 2.

But with away followings to increase massively next season and being back in the league, they’ll probably follow the example of FG and average closer to 3,000 or so. Always good for the finances!
The increase in away support will certainly be good for our gates. Although realistically we'd be doing 'well' to consistently get over 2000 home fans, similarly to last time we were in league 2. FGR are out of our league support-wise :bg1:

Brilliant to have another local game back and I'm gonna be greedy and beg Tranmere to go up for another local game. Prefer places like Macclesfield away, you can have a good day out there on the ale unlike trips to Shrewsbury (where the police hate away fans with large followings and stop them from going to pubs) and Vale (Burslem is the last place on Earth I'd want to day drink in).

Shame Wrexham are bottlejobs, brilliant town for a few pints and let's hope they get their act together and get back in the league.

Nearly 3000 home fans for us yesterday fyi, we're now a significantly bigger club then Macc.

But well done to them, massive achievement. Probably one of the 6 smallest clubs in the Conference, and they've finished above the likes of Tranmere, Aldershot , Wrexham and Boreham Wood. Amazing stuff. It's nice to see someone of their size get a chance to play in the EFL. Hopefully they relish every minute, every game will feel like a cup final.

Aye. I’m the same as you, to have Macclesfield, vale, Crewe, Morecambe, bury all within an hour (maybe a little more for Crewe) with the potential of Rochdale and/or Oldham then happy days.

I assume you've only followed football since 2012?

Welcome back Macc, good to have another Efe Sodje derby back. I can't say we've done too well at Moss Rose the last time you were in the league so hopefully we'll do better this time around.

Ahhhhh Boreham Wood!!

The thought of them laying in the EFL makes me shiver!! Macclesfield will bring something to this league and at least will be sustainable at this level.

Boreham Wood have about 300 fans maximum and some holidays from Chelsea who attach themselves for any big game!!

Unfortunately they have a pretty decent side, so it is very possible they could come up!!

Come on Tranmere/Aldershot don't let it happen!!

Welcome back Macclesfield. Always had time for them lot, and their ground is one of those nice traditional ones.

ps - genuine question for the football purists (lol) - are Macc a 'proper' club? BT2F need not answer this question as we know what his answer's going to be.

Why? If they get promoted from the play offs they will have deserved it as it's up to other teams to beat them, to be fair i couldn't give a toss who comes up no team has a right to be promoted no matter how big or small the club is but the team who wins the play off final at Wembley will deserve to be promoted to The Football League, every team in The Conference knows what they have to do to be promoted before the season starts so what if a smaller team gets promoted instead of teams like Wrexham,Leyton Orient,Tranmere or Aldershot all ex FL teams who don't win enough games to get promoted.

Exactly, if sides like forest green can make it into the league and survive, it’ll give hope to practically any club down in the conference or below.

Not a go at FG or their fans, just a fact

No! Nowhere near.

But who cares? I like them anyway and they're only slightly less "proper" than the U's.

The main reason that they're OK is that they replaced Ronnie Radford's Hereford United when the Moss Rose finally got past the bureaucrats........and there's a few good pubs and the occasional sheepdog trial as a bonus.

I think we averaged 2300 in our last season in League 2 in 2012 when we were absolutely terrible and got relegated. We've averaged 1800 this year in the National League, but the average number of away fans is sub 100 because the league is so south eastern. It depends how we do on the pitch, but I would imagine that even if we had a poor season and got relegated, that we would average a few hundred more home fans than this season and there would be a massive spike in the number of away fans, particularly with teams such as Port Vale, Crewe, Bury, Carlisle, Notts County and Oldham/Rochdale coming! I think we might average 2200-2500, which is more than several teams currently at this level.

We always took a decent following over to you as well, probably relatively straight forward for Grimsby also.

Home crowds matter, size matters.
Great bonus for Macc and anyone else promoted back to the football league

FGR are a million times bigger than Boreham Wood!!

You are in for a big shock if you think we are in any way comparable to them.

You may like to think we are some tiny club, but we have a oasis are fanbase that is growing almost game by game.

Anyway Mansfield's crowds are pathetic considering how big the place is.

They'll be more interest next season than our last FL crowds. We were 15 years in and scraped survival for most of that.

Expect a few hundred up on those attendances with away fans 2200+

Touch a nerve there or something? Despite the fact I said I wasn’t having a go. Attendance were never mentioned.

My point, which you completely missed - was that any side will think they’ve a chance of going up to the league if you can do it - and why shouldn’t they? Fylde have a sugar daddy, maybe boreham wood do as well - so if they see you chuck money at it - and (eventually) get promoted they’ll think the same. Much the same as Crawley and fleetwood have done.

Reverting to the claim our attendances are “pathetic for how big the place is” I think you’ll find if you research your claim - that it’s about average for clubs in this league - just so you know.

Thank you for playing.

No you are not.

Even if they get more than Macc next season by a hundred or 2 - how many of those Macc fans were there 15 years ago? Probably most of them? Until 3 seasons ago FG had never averaged over 1200. Where were all those other fans?

So what?

All I said was that Maccesfield will struggle to average as many home fans as FGR next season if they struggle like we did. I maybe wrong.

I bet you there’s no more than 250 in it either way. Home fans that is. Whether it gets remember or not I don’t know, but if put a fiver on it to the charity thing this forum has that macc get more.

In fairness, one way the club has built regular support is the ambassador's' scheme in local schools; get the kids coming and they drag family along too plus hopefully have to suffer along with the rest of us for decades to come. I know a lot of clubs do similar but the effect probably stands out more when you're starting from a small base.
ETA What they don't do last time I looked though was advertise the games much in Stroud. would have thought DV could have stuck a couple of billboards up on one of his many office buildings to get the message out in the bigger catchment town, though the council might be stopping it.
