I'm most curious about what they think the people who perpetuate the supposed myth that the earth is round hope to gain from it. I mean my life and those of millions of others would be exactly the same if we lived on a round earth or a flat one.

Because if the truth came out now it would be obvious we had never been into space and therefore people would rebel and society would break down or some other shit.

I'd advise glasses if you can't see it then. I'll give you another example then, look out over the horizon and watch a ship come over towards you, you will see the top of the masts first before the rest of the ship appears as it moves closer, that wouldn't happen on a flat surface and is why it's never been believed that Earth is flat. Back in the classical times, upto and including Columbus et al all knew the Earth was spherical (an obloid spheroid to be technical), and we all know it today. This is a piss take by those who believe in creationism and the superiority of the white race, nothing more.
look at this Salty at 16.05 it totally disproves your point above, sorry to be a bearer of bad news mate

I can buy the conspiracy theories about us having never travelled to space, the fake moon landing etc. and can understand why, if the world were flat, the likes of NASA and co would indeed have a lot to gain from a lie. But religious leaders? Governments? Scientists?

2 mins exactly in to this video it shows work on the space station and yet a water bubble floats up the screen

Johnny, thoughts on the theory that Stevie Wonder is not actually blind? He's always checking out his backing singers' arses and his high-fives/hugs are too accurate.

this puts the doughters to shame, also if the earth was round going by NASA's own measurements the earth would curve 8 inches per mile yet 100's of experiments have shown this to be false.
And did you know it was Arthur C Clarke who coined the phrase satellite, then suddenly NASA starting using it...LOL

We could just say it's a cube and then we're all kind of right.

do engineers account for the curvature of the earth in major projects like railroads or canals? simple answer is no.....

Liverpool - London railway line 180 miles long, according to NASA's own figures the earth has 8 inches squared of curvature per mile meaning
midway point Birmingham would be 1 mile higher or 5400ft than Liverpool and London........it is actually 240 ft

LOL the earth is not a globe

This is the clincher, if the earth was curved all pilots would have to constantly correct plane nose downwards to maintain height?

It's an oblate spheroid.

If you're planning a sea trip, the curvature of the earth is more or less irrelevant when travelling a distance of 600 nautical miles or less (using plane or mercator sailing). Any calculations over this distance would indeed have to take into account this curvature, using the great circle sailing method. And they do, because the shortest distance between two point on the earth's surface is part of a great circle, not a straight line...because the earth isn't flat.

mmm now explain why pilots don't have to continually angle the nose of plane down to keep at same height?

What, exactly the same height? Why would they have to do that? We have a couple of pilots on here I'm sure they can answer that
Well if its a globe earth they would be too high pretty quick?

Then how come planes can't go into space. Oh yeah because of escape velocity which is 25000 mph to overcome Earths gravity.

Didn't watch that bunkcome on the vid, a lot of tinhat nonsense.

I can't believe I'm even getting involved as something as fucking stupid as a flat earth discussion, but..

According to the Flat Earth lot, it's the southern hemisphere which is all stretched out.

So how come it takes eight hours to fly the 3,465 miles from London to New York, but only 12 hours (i.e. 150%) to travel from Johannesburg to Sydney? By the Flat Earth reckoning, that distance is around 18,500 miles (but probably far more, as if the earth was flat, you'd be crossing land most of the way, but you don't, so the commitment to the lie means you have to veer a good couple of thousand miles 'rimward' to avoid flying over India etc)

Two issues here. The longest range airliner in the world would crash about 6,000 miles short of Sydney after running out of fuel - and Quantas, at least, sell that trip non-stop - and to travel 15,500 miles in 12 hours would mean travelling at almost double 770 or so of the speed of sound.

So not only have they developed super long range, faster than sound travel... They have decided to only offer it on obscure southern hemisphere to other southern hemisphere routes and not, say, offer direct flights from London to Sydney in 10 hours, or transatlantic travel in three and a half hours.

people would surely want to go to edge of a flat earth and look over the edge?

flat earthers say the Antarctic is the edge of the flat earth with the north pole as centre...............guess which piece of the earth is being fought over the most and has been for centuries?

Israel?

I've had a peruse of that flat earth forum and it's just batshit crazy.

A group of people wilfully claiming their own lack of knowledge is identical of that of the entire of human intelligence, quoting uncited 'facts' to back themselves up, and proclaiming outlandish 'barely-possibles' as 'probables' because they haven't had the real information drip fed them from their own confirmation biased sources.

I might go and post it in the religion thread.
