Rashford on the score sheet again tonight, he's going to give Roy a real headache here.

Is Rashford actually good? I've never seen him play.

Also I agree most with Renegade about best lineups, I'm not a fan of the diamond that everyone else seems so keen on.

He's scored 8 goals in 17 games as a debuting eighteen-year-old in the least creative United side in God knows how long so he's got something about him. Obviously, he isn't there yet and he has a long way to go but he's an exciting prospect for sure.

Not a bad side that. Though I agree in swapping Jones for Cahill.

The two decisions that are hard to decide is whether Alli should play and where he would fit in and who should come in for Welbeck.

Take Stones out for Cahill and that would be my side.

Yeah, I only put Stones in because I'm biased. And I would certainly have no qualms with Alli starting.

Just seen Paul Ince starting 11 for the game against Russia and now realize why he is such a shite manager.

What's Raheem Sterling done to even warrant a place in the squad, let alone a place in the starting XI? With the form that Sturridge, Vardy and Kane are in, anything other than a 2 upfront system seems like you are wasting the forward talent we have. You then have a number of options to play in the number 10 role. Rooney, Barkley, Sterling. Ok, none are in great form, but still. We don't have the wide options to play a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 imo.

Yeah, Paul Ince isn't in management anymore because he's black, not because he's clueless.

10/10 for the grim reaper reference.

Bolding messages on here is terrible, hard to see which bit you've highlighted. I think its the Sterling part, in which case, what has he done?

I'll try it again and just leave the bits that astounded/amused me...

Fair point. Although in my defence, I did list him 3rd behind Barkley and Rooney. That was in order of preference.

I'm not totally against Sterling being in the squad because if you aren't taking him, who are you taking instead? I was more using it to emphasise the point that he shouldn't be in the starting XI. Fair play though, that was a daft post by me. :ffs:

Sterling has had a crap season by scoring as many goals as he has ever scored in a season before.

Yes he looked slightly better in a Liverpool team playing attacking crazy football but in a sensible City team and plenty of substitute appearances he has been just as prolific as he was at Liverpool
He is a natural talent, much happier having him there than Lallana long term

I would possibly start Lallana too given our lack in wnigers.

My team would be:

Hart
Clyne Cahill Smalling Rose
Dier Wilshere
Barkley Alli Lallana
Kane

Lack of width is the issue, but we aren't blessed with many good wingers. I think Barkley/Alli/Lallana could move around each other quite well.

Then gives us the option of Vardy/Sturridge off the bench too.

If Roy decides to use Vardy as an impact sub he really is a total waster. I don't think people realise just how much more Vardy does than score goals. His tireless running pegs opposition back in their own half, they can't come forward for fear of leaving space in behind for him to take advantage of. That means their whole side sits a little further from our goal which relieves pressure on our defence. Something this England team would benefit greatly from.

With Vardy, Kane and Sturridge in the squad, it seems a total waste to only go with 1 upfront, especially in the group stages. I think we could be way more dangerous if we have a 2 upfront system.

As things stand, I'd like to see a team similar to this:

Hart
Clyne Cahill Smalling Rose
Dier Wilshere
Vardy Alli Barkley
Kane

This lineup is perhaps too attacking, but I'd like to see us attacking from the first whistle in the group stages. I'd probably make a few changes if we ended up facing Germany, France etc.

Personally, I wouldn't start Walker as don't think he offers an awful lot bar his pace. In fact, I feel the same about Rose, though I can't see Bertrand nailing down that position. I'd say Hart, Smalling, Cahill and Kane are near-enough certainties to start against Russia (providing there's no late injuries).

The team starting vs Germany was:

--------------Butland
Clyne - Cahill - Smalling - Rose
----------Dier----Henderson--------
Lallana--------Alli---------Welbeck
---------------Kane-------------------

Butland obviously out so Hart steps in. And I think Roy puts Rooney in Welbeck's spot. And there's your starting team (not mine specifically, but what I think he'll go with)

I'd like to think he learned from the bang average Darmian dismantling his team 2 years ago not to play Rooney out wide. I mean, I doubt he has but I'd like to think it regardless.

Still of the opinion England should totally fuck off the idea of playing with wingers, as I have for years. We don't have any of any real quality. None. The insanely athletic fullbacks can provide the width and a compact midfield helps us out defensively. It also allows us to play 2 up front. I haven't seen anyone suggest a single 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 that hasn't made me think "that's a shit team".
