What are everyones top ten horror films out of interest?
Just firing these off the top of my head and I reserve the right to edit as I have probably forgotten a couple. Also well aware that there is some proper trash in there (House of 1000 Corpses, Texas Chainsaw, People Under the Stairs, etc.), but Carel is in France right now so I have time to amend it before he gets back...

1. Ring
2. Cannibal Holocaust
3. Halloween
4. Black Sunday
5. Thirst
6. Cemetery Man
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
8. House of 1000 Corpses
9. Dawn of the Dead
10. The People Under the Stairs

Obviously, I'm nominating all originals were remakes have been made.

Some decent ones in there to be fair, I remember watching The People Under the Stairs on Sci-Fi years ago, I wasn't too sure on it. I think I'm going to watch it back at one point.

I tend to like a lot of the trashy flicks, the cheesey, campy, gory ones. Generally, they're the flicks that first got me into the genre.

That's quite a tough one, I'm going to try and put them in some kind of order.

1. The Exorcist
2. The Omen
3. Switchblade Romance
4. The Eye
5. Friday 13th: The Final Chapter
6. Dawn of the Dead
7. Susperia
8. Misery
9. Zombie Flesh Eaters
10. Freaks

The list could change at any moment.

Honourable mentions for; The Prowler, Intruder, Alice Sweet Alice, Candyman, Dog Soldiers, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, Scream, Braindead, Re-Animator, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Burning, REC, Frailty, Final Destination.
Completely different list to mine, but also a few I have never seen (numbers 2-4). Great call on Misery, by the way. Have Susperia on my 1970s draft list for Craig's thing.

Also have Phantasm on that list but completely forgot about it here.

I think I've only ever met one other person who actually likes The People Under the Stairs, now that I think about it. Will be checking out those ones on yours I haven't seen. The Omen is one I really should have watched a long time ago.

I watched Zombeavers this morning, a straight-to-DVD horror film about rabid zombie beavers attacking a group of holidaying youngsters. Needless to say it was the worst 'horror' film I've ever seen, and it actually had the worst ending I've seen in any genre as well, even ignoring the rest of it being shite.

The Omen is superb, definitely one of the best horror films of all time.

Just come across this, https://www.screambox.com/. I haven't registered so I'm not sure if I'll need to VPN it to make it work, but it looks fun.

Edit: VPN it is.

Just popped in to say The People Under the Stairs is a classic. Watched it dozens of times as a kid.

I'll post my favourites when I get home.

In no particular order, and subject to change.

Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Children of the Corn (1984)
Candyman (1992)
The Shining (1980)
Halloween (1978)
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
The Thing (1982)
Poltergeist (1982)
Pet Sematary (1989)
Gremlins (1984)

What about remakes guys? I don't think the horror genre is bad for them at all.

There's been some real train wreck remakes but there's been a few good ones too. The likes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Evil Dead, The Wolf Man I hold in high regard. Sometimes a re-imaging really sorts out a film that has dated really badly (not that the ones listed have all dated badly.

Prom Night, The Ring, The Fly, Black Christmas, Carrie (though I would plow Chloe Grace Moretz), House on Haunted Hill, Psycho, Quarantine, House of Wax, The Haunting, The Hitcher, Toolbox Murders (though it kind of sits as a guilty pleasure), Thirteen Ghosts were pretty awful. I've probably missed a load of them out.

Basically a shot for shot of the original but somehow it's a million times worse. It's probably up there with one of the worst films I've seen.

What are the better sequels out there? I prefer Final Destination 2 to the original and I preferred Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and part VII: The New Blood to the original.

Other than that, I struggle to think ofany that are any good.

I preferred Aliens to Alien, can't think of any more.

The first Scream film must be worth a mention but the follow ups were poor.

Van Sant is a pretty decent filmmaker and I don't think he's an idiot, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I think his version of Psycho was made to demonstrate how much is going on beneath the surface in the original film by stripping it all away for the remake.

The Purge was fucking awful

Great concept. Terrible execution.

Just listed all my favourites to Cas on Twitter, Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, Evil Dead 1-3, Alien 1-3, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, The Crow, Phenomena, Fright Night, Se7en, Pan's Labyrinth, Silence of the Lambs, Resident Evil and the Exorcist. Seen Dont Look Now and Carrie on here to realise I forgot them. Also for pure horror cheese, I always enjoy Drag Me To Hell.

Talking good horror music, you cant beat the odd heavy metal obsession in Phenomena.

VHS 2 is better than the first in my opinion.

The one with George C. Scott? I enjoyed it. Nicely atmospheric and creepy.

Horror Channel staple on right now. Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead! Synopsis says "When a prisoner transport bus is run off the road, the convicts and guards face a fight for survival against a mutant cannibal hillbilly that prowls the area." Poor old hillbillies get such a raw deal in horror films! Or maybe Im just being sympathetic since watching Tucker & Dale vs Evil...
