It finished up 7-1 to us in the end. Don’t think it was on TV but safe to say it was a happy season for Vale and Gillingham (and all the Bradford fans on here too). Even included the lesser spotted Vale penalty awarded.

Bartonyellow feel free to scroll past this :)

Too late I’ve seen it !
Tried to erase that night from my memory..

In the interest of fairness if I remember rightly didn’t you beat us 4-0 at VP the next time you came here? I think that night Burton did the one thing you don’t want to do and concede early and let it snowball. The home crowd at VP as saw in the Newport game tends to quickly get a bit restless if things aren’t going in our favour.

We did yes - I think it was 2 seasons after as we lost the play offs after getting dicked at your place.
The atmosphere was very good in fairness. Was numb that night. Think the players were too, we never recovered and took us till the season after to kick on.

Was a bonkers night, we were just came out so fired up and we’re unplayable. It’s one game that still makes the hairs stand up thinking about it. We battered some good sides that season, Rotherham 6-2, Burton 7-1, Fleetwood 5-2, we were similar to Swindon in we were in administration at the start of the season, and had no players until the week before and we’re favs to go down! We had no kit until we cobbled a pink kit the day before the season began and had to use a temporary home one (did like it though!)

Ironically we matched that seasons points tally this season but it wasn’t enough this time.

Aye tad expensive though with two trips to Wembley, Burton had a nice running with us in the playoffs but Northampton got a good day out at Wembley at least ;)

You beat us at our place - I remember the winner going past Stuart “wwf” Tomlinson, which was a suprise given he was about 16 stone.

You mean Hugo Knox when WWF or his other persona Rupert Paddington Gomez when he was escorting!

He was ok as a keeper but got to become such a brick shithouse shots used to bounce off him and give players a tap in from the rebound!

Northampton are 2/1 to qualify tomorrow night
Mansfield are 1/3

Not quite sure where they’ve got those odds, but if i were a betting man and a neutral….

Me too, i’d have had it the other way round.

Northampton are and will be clear favourites to qualify.

As much as I believe we have the capability to turn it around I think you have to be favourites simply because you are brining in a 1 goal lead. I think I saw that you had not won away at a top 11 side this season which was really surprising. But you dont have to win, a draw is sufficient.

Could go either way but think any team going into the second leg with a lead has to be considered favourites.

Just by way of comparison we are 9/5 to qualify for the final and Swindon are 2/5. It’s basically a reflection of who holds the lead going into the second leg and I think that’s right. If the away goals rule was in operation it’d be a different story.

Basically going into the return legs all possible combinations of final opponents are very much alive.

We hold the one goal advantage thats why the bookies have us as favourites to go through, its not easy knowing you have to win a game by two clear goals to get through ,i can see both games needing extra time and maybe even penalties .I fancy us to get through ,but im ever the optimist

You can make stats how you want them but they count for nothing here, Swindon's away form is great and they will be buoyed by that, on the flip side Swindon's away form on a midweek this season is horrific and 4 of their 6 away losses have been midweek so you can look at that.

Ultimately these are cup ties so you can rule out the last 46 games, pressure, Mansfield and Swindon have more pressure with something to lose, how do Vale and Cobblers go about it? approaches to games, guess its time to strap in and see what happens!

Only 9 times this season have Barry/McKirdy/Davison played together. We’ve won 8 and the 1 we lost was when both Barry and McKirdy went off injured.

We’ve been poor every time Reed hasn’t played.

Anyway, I’d rather be a goal up than a goal down. Hope it’s enough.

We haven't come from behind in the league to win all season...do people think a 2nd legged tie counts?

Assuming that doesn't include away which it may then we should be on course for a sell out as thats 2k in a day.

Yeah this all comes with the asterisk as to whether you believe what the ticket office says in terms of numbers.

See they’ve also stopped Swindon fans from going in any pubs in town and told them to go three miles away in Newcastle. Don’t actually agree with that, so long as they’re not acting like dickheads I don’t see what harm letting them in the Bulls Head or somewhere like that would do capacity permitting.

I think its due to the entry/exit for the Bycars with the away switch as they are parking them on Dimensions and making that the access point through past the training ground to avoid a bottle neck down the sides with the home fans obviously now around the front and sides of the stadium. If they drink in Burslem they'd end up down that side alley around the side of the Railway so a potential flash point.

Guessing they wont be in the Vale social either or beer in the away end.

Yeah guess that would have come into it. That said you’re always going to get home and away fans walking past each other etc. On leaving the County Ground on Sunday I’d parked in the town centre right next to one of the Wetherspoons pubs and had to walk through the home fans coming out and not a hint of trouble at any point. Maybe just being idealistic but I’d like to think people can be trusted not to just kick off on somebody as they support a different football team.

Shame we couldn’t have come up with fanzone type option somewhere for them to make some money.

Had that been the 2nd leg and you had won I think you would have had some aggro.
