Basically Mansfield didn't turn up and vale did. That was the simple matter. It doesn't always turn out like that but it did

I think ultimately it was written in the stars. Everything went for us and we just played the perfect game. Daryl deserved it and I was very confident before the game. I didn't want to jinx it but I knew we were the better team. I just knew we would come out on top.

Thought Clarke outdid Clough and we clearly wanted it more.

The Mansfield fans acknowledgment for DC was top class as was their support trying to raise their team at the start of the 2nd half but as LV has stated it appeared Clough got his tactics wrong and left too much space down the flanks.

Our budget was 8th at the start of the season, 10th after January according to Vince. Makes sense tbf, our squad wasn’t exactly deep or packed with proven quality.

To stress the ones who post on here are excluded from this but some of these make it really easy to want to rub it in that we beat them.

Back home, superb day; parked at Wealdstone FC and they were fantastic hosts for us, then went Box Park and that was absolutely bouncing! Bizarre Lee Hughes appearance I have to say!

It was all well set out though and was great to see all the fans there and how far we’ve come from that dark spell under Norman where we genuinely looked doomed.

Chuffed for DC, seen his interview and obviously he’s now felt it right to mention his daughter and he deserves the happiness, it meant so much and him serenading us to the wonder of you in the post match celebrations and seeing him so happy was great, I love the man and he now goes down in Vale folklore.

Performance wise it was very un vale like to win like that but Wilson was immense, that ball to set up the first and Harratt an absolute pain.

Mal Benning though, he struggled we didn’t get the signing we expected at first but he’s really hit the heights lately and that third goal was great technique to keep it down.

Felt from Mansfield they were far too narrow. The first two goals we opened them up with a cross field pass leaving our full backs in acres of space but fair play their fans second half tried to keep their side going and as said we’ve been there in 93 man sent off and 3-0 loss and bounced back to win auto the following year, they’ve done remarkable to turn it around from November and have plenty to build on going forwards.

I will miss the League Two forum a bit, it’s far more active and loads of good posters on here, hopefully look forwards to welcoming more on here up there in 12 months time if we can secure our status.

Have to say as someone who couldn’t have cared less who won, when it zoomed in on DC when the injury time board went up and he knew it was over the emotion on his face left a lump in my throat and I was glad you’d got the win after that. Felt a bit uncomfortable how long Sky kept zoomed in on his face for considering the circumstances, but you’d have to be inhumane not to have felt something watching that.

This will always be the worst year of his life by far. But at least he’s had something to day to be proud of.

Maybe we do, but tbh I can’t trust a word that comes out of his mouth. Sparks and Rupp still have a lot of bridges to mend after the last few years when promotion has been there for the taking, our forward line doesn’t scream top 5 budget but who knows.

They’ve hired a famous name which has bought them some time, but if this goes wrong both will be driven out of town.

Don’t want to come across dismissive of Vale performance because they played well, but it was very Mansfield to potentially put on their worse performance of the season at Wembley in a play-off final, felt fitting.

Our biggest issue is since we brought in Longstaff and Murphy and messed about with our midfield it’s actually made us significantly a poorer team IMO, zero legs in that midfield once again and it’s a major reason why we’ve missed out of automatic promotion and messed up the play-offs.

Had plenty of good chats with Vale fans post match and wish the club all the best, funnily enough pretty much every group of Vale fans I spoke too thought my accent was off the rails

Yeah I don't trust him either. I honestly can't see many of the current squad being on big wages. Aas a pure guess I'd say Walker and Cook are probably on decent money.

Can't say much more than has already been said but Carol and Darrell deserve things to go their way. They are both superb individuals. But I want to say to Mansfield fans that you are a superb bunch. The tribute to Darrell and the decorum in defeat. You are great and I hope u go up as champions next season. Class acts.

Don’t and didn’t wish to bring it all up as the Swindon boys on here are top class but very strange, their fans literally flood everything about us being classless, want us kicked out of Wembley, points deductions, DC sacked and a weird obsession with how many fans they have compared to us (notice they were giving Rovers fans the same guff!) and their players giving it as well! Chalk and cheese to the class the Mansfield fans displayed.

Never seen it before with them but a decent proportion didn’t lose gracefully. Christ if we were like that everytime we lost we’d have fallen out with everyone by now!

Both Swindon and Mansfield though have positive times to come.

From a Vale point of view though most have never seen us contest a play off but what a day, makes bottling the autos worth it, the club must have made great money from it and hopefully some of those at Wembley and the last few games will be hooked and want to come again next season. It felt surreal and was highly emotional with the DC back drop and where we had been to get to this point with Smurf. To finally have our day.

Aside from my wedding day and the birth of my kids it’s up there as the best day of my life that!
