One of the things that has been really eye-opening in the last week is just how unhinged Swindon players and a lot of their fans on social media and their forum are. To stress the ones who post on here are excluded from this but some of these make it really easy to want to rub it in that we beat them.
I think Mckirdy was fined for saying something similar earlier this season on social media. I expect Baudry to get the same. A lot of our fans are lapping it up but for me it's totally pathetic, as a professional footballer that's just playground stuff and embarrassing.

Sorry didn't quote the right post but I guess you know the tweets I'm referring to?

Had some good chats with a few Mansfield fans before and after the game. What a decent bunch. Very gracious and all fans mixed with no issues.

Same old Mansfield, they have players capable of winning the main event but they want to win a kicking match too. They drew 1-1 at out place in February and should have won, but there was a melee after O'Toole tried to throttle someone. He got a red, Hawkins got yellow and triggered a ban. Clough was scathing about how unprofessional they were, but he still uses Hawkins out of position in a crucial game.

Congratulations to Port Vale and look forward to seeing you at Highbury next season. Commiserations to Mansfield, lowsy losing in a final, but best for next season

Well done Vale truly deserved great performance, Mansfield definitely didn't turn up or maybe Vale didn't allow them to, either way I've no doubt Mansfield once they've licked their wounds and dusted themselves down will be a strong force in L2 next season and possibly build on this experience to put themselves in a stronger position to have a go at stepping up a level next season. As for Vale I think they will take to being back in L1 with ease and be very competitive, their large away end should help them massively financially with plenty of big teams in there that will pack it out at probably £25 a pop to support them a good budget.

Good luck to Mansfield next season and may have a derby with Chesterfield to relish.

Just sinking in we actually did it yesterday. Watched the game back on the TV and I think you can put it down to the fact all of our top players like James Wilson showed up on the day. We are extremely lucky to have him. Thought Jake Taylor was excellent for us too, the Cruyff turn he pulled off at one point was beautiful.

Maybe Mansfield could look at what they did tactically too, that diamond formation was not really suited to playing us particularly at Wembley as we just kept overloading them out wide but suppose their argument would be it’s got them to this point I guess.

Going to be strange when the fixture list comes out and have that very rare occasion us and Bradford don’t have each other on it. Book it now we will draw each other in a cup. Who knows maybe we come straight back down but I’d like to think we can be competitive at least.

Tactically Cloughie definitely got it wrong, left our best midfielder in Maris on the bench and played Longstaff and Murphy but I’m a bit wary of trying to look too deep in to it because we were simply not at the races anyway plus Hawkins was a knobhead.

I’ve just caught up with 8 pages of this thread on the train home.
I echo it all.
It was brilliant.
I love this club.
I met loads of stags fans and they were all sound, especially the bunch who were giving me loads of shit about being here with my family and stone cold sober, my kids were loving it, and we had some photos with them.
I felt for them, they sang their bollocks off but we smashed it.
It was beautiful.
This is a great forum and although I don’t post much I’ll miss (most) of you..
Up the vale!

Well, yesterday was some day! I dont think the promotion has quite sunk in yet. 3 goals and a clean sheet at Wembley really isn't a vale thing to do but I'm delighted with the win.

I think Crosbie has been outstanding this season, cannot fault his efforts. Darrell returning has been rightly emotional and it feels like a fairytale ending.

All credit to the Mansfield fans. Spoke to quite a few pre/post game and all were a genuine bunch. I felt for the fans as the team really didn't turn up on the day to give them the performance that the fans deserved. Great bunch of people supporting a genuine club, a lot of similarities between Vale and Mansfield I feel.

Wishing Mansfield all the best for next season. Up the Vale!

Some day. The best day of my Vale supporting life. Experiences like that is why we love football and our clubs. To do it at Wembley and with my best mates and family as well makes it special.

I’ve been used to misery and depression supporting Vale. I can probably count on one hand the amount of good seasons I’ve witnessed. I half expected us to cock it up at half time. It all felt too easy in the end. Hopefully we are on our way up.

Commiserations to Mansfield fans. I’d have been gutted if we were on the losing end so you have my sympathies.

Up the Vale x

avoided posting for a while today whilst i was trying to take in what the bloody hell happened yesterday! just got to echo the other valiants i think clough was too late to change to the threat of benning and worrall and although looking back it seems like a comfortable win theres no denying that everything fell our way in terms of the two big chances for mansfield, the deflected cross still finding harratt and the ball coming back off the bar nicely for wilson. It could have easily been a different outcome but for those.

it's a weird feeling today, im obviously not used to success as i really do feel sorry that mansfield had to lose in that way.

but enough of the love in, it was probably the best day of my life, went down in a minibus with a few mates and my dad/brother and the memory of that will last forever.
I saw Stuart Broad being interviewed on sky before todays game and he said he wasn't nervous as it just seemed like it was their time well thats kind of how i was yesterday and not from any sort of arrogance but it just seemed like all the shit we've had in the 29 years since our last playoffs, the hurdles we've overcome to get to wembley that it was written in the stars for us to win.

thanks to everyone for the messages and it really has been special to see the football community come together to let DC know how much support he has.

best of luck to mansfield next season

I felt sick all day, even at 2-0 and 11 v 10 I was counting the minutes down. It was so un Vale!

It did feel like fate, I felt it was fate we’d get automatic for DC and then the wheels came off but credit to them they turned on the performances second leg against Swindon and yesterday (and the Exeter game which we needed to get a result in).

This season has been immense, so many great memories and chuffed it had the fairytale ending. Things like this don’t usually happen to Port Vale!

Baudry to all intents and purposes has retired. If he hadn't I dont think he would of posted those comments on social media. Whilst the oldest member of our squad, he is still a comparatively young man, and posting daft things on social media is what young men do. Anybody that saw both games would agree that over the two legs Vale deserved to win as we didn't take our chances. Ive stayed off the forum over the past 10 days as I've been on holiday and took some days to get over the defeat and as a consequence am not aware of whether or not its been documented about what happened post match. The fact that our players were attacked on the pitch (the evidence is there) excuses, in my opinion, any derogatory comments from our players on social media. Its not sour grapes its anti-social behavior. What our fans are aggrieved about isn't the result but the fact that our end was subjected to missile throwing by some vale fans when they should have been celebrating their victory as well as the fact that Staffs & , for that matter, Wilts police did nothing to stop the attacks.

Issue is it’s a minority, so tarring all Vale fans with that brush isn’t really right, Swindon fans were chucking seats and objects at the Vale fans, they attacked a bus against Bradford most clubs have these morons attacked including Swindon and it’s a football wide problem at the moment (St Etienne last night) and needs sorting. Post pandemic these events seem to be happening regularly and it’s a concern.

There was a lot of bitterness towards us, that said seeing some of the clips of the team coach on the way home Sunday it’s clear they used a lot of these comments to fire themselves up.

On a side note why did Crosby lead the team out? (Unless my eyes were deceiving me)

Yes! Our end went very quiet second half as I think everyone was anticipating it to all go wrong!
