Champion has resigned. Probably the best possible political outcome for the leadership, who managed to appease their core base without it turning into a media firestorm. Corbyn et al need to be a lot stronger on this in future. Can't play both sides on an issue as sensitive as immigration.

On balance it probably is for the best. Didn't think the concerns she originally seemed to be raising ought to be off-limits for discussion, but she does seem to have let herself down somewhat with the subsequent Sun article, which appears to contain some rather baseless, and actually quite offensive assertions (do wonder whether she's been stitched up a bit by the paper, but hey, wtf do you expect if you agree to write a column for them).

Wtf is she even talking to that mess, let alone writing for them. I'm glad she's gone. Although I would have much preferred it if Jezza had canned her. If it wasn't clear before it is now. We need deselection and a proper purge, we're clearly still infested with reactionary melts.
On a happier note Owen Jones has unblocked me and I'm building a guillotine.

Wondering when Naz Shah will step down or be sacked by Corbyn.
Her comments regarding grooming gang victims to keep their mouths shut for the sake of diversity is quite frankly outrageous and can't believe the piece of shit is still in her job

Labour seem far more interested in easing racial tensions (real of perceived) than protecting young girls from rape, so I wouldn't be surprised if she survived any scandal unscathed. If her comments about relocating Israel to the US as a solution to the Middle East conflict weren't enough to sink her than I doubt this will be.

Not her comments no but she reweeted "Exactly Areeq, those abused girls in Rotherham and elsewhere just need to shut their mouths. For the good of #diversity!"
The reweet itself is fucking deplorable given the severity of the subject.
Disgraceful by any MP, not to mention her other comments regarding Israel etc. Despicable person

You can't defend that ffs.
I don't like Shah or her weirdo sidekick Galloway tbh. Think it's a bit dangerous to assume that's what she thinks cos she retweeted a fucking parody account.

It's so egregious it does read like sarcasm. Still, someone in her position should have more sense than to even think about retweeting something like that. Imagine if another MP retweeted something about victims of Islamophobia keeping their mouths shut. Their feet wouldn't touch the ground parody or not.

Fucking hell, Hednesford is one of the most Tory areas you could ever hope to find around here. Well played, Labour!

If you think Naz Shah, who's both a survivor of a forced marriage and an outspoken campaigner against violence against women (especially in Muslim communities), believes that victims of sexual abuse need to keep quiet, I don't know what to tell you.

I've got a bunch of questions about why she's retweeting a far-right run parody account though...

That doesn't suggest she believes white victims should be helped though. It's very clear she has issue with white people. It was an arranged marriage by the way.

I went to watch Jeremy Corbyn speak in Mansfield the other day and he was very good. I think the only thing I disagree with him on is making higher education free for all. £3,000 per year was fairer than £9,000 but going down to nothing is too far in the other direction. Paying 9% of anything you earn over £21,000 isn't a bad deal.

One real criticism would be that the event itself didn't reach as many people as it should have. You had to be invited to the event by your friends passing on a link so it wasn't very well-documented. I was looking at Corbyn's Twitter page and there was nothing about the rally. All he was talking about on there was Bristol. There was only an attendance of 3-400 people. If it had been advertised properly I reckon it's possible it could have gone into the thousands. The leader of the Labour Party visiting your town is exciting and if it was marketed as such then more people would attend.

I noticed that he was talking at the TUC just recently. I'd really like to see a big push from the party on workplace politics. I want to see an end to zero-hours contracts, underemployment, underpayments and draconian employment contracts. He could only be a hero on those issues.

But you have no elections in the near future, right?

I wish we could've the same percentage for our Social Democrats for our Bundestagswahl in 3 days. But unfortunately making EU Bureaucrat Martin Schulz the frontrunner against Merkel was a flop. Nothing but hot air from him.
So we'll see "Mutti" being Chancellor for another 4 years:ffs:
Not until 2022 unless Theresa 'flipflop' May changes her mind again. She's contesting the next election AND stepping down in 2019 apparently, so fuck knows what she'll do next. We weren't having a snap election and then lo and behold we had another. The Tory party is falling apart in front of us all, and we're being run by muppets. It's all great fun.

Imagine the tides of reaction, conservatism and capital did actually recede alongside the Tories. I'd have to find something else to bore people with.

Some peak ultra-leftism going on at notable social media accounts re. Labour Party Conference and The World Transformed. I don't see the point in critique for critique's sake in the current moment. A lot of these people aren't even bothering to posit direct action (accompanying divestment from representational politics) anymore, which I thought was one of intended statements; it's just ultra-left cynicism.

Which ones in particular? I've seen mostly positive stuff.
( I might have misunderstood your post tbh)

A minority of Anarchists and Libertarian Communists who I otherwise have a lot of respect for, not offering productive critique, implicitly lumping lots of top socialists in with the SWP because the latter have a presence/managed to sneak in.
