Fun comedic spy action movie from Matthew Vaughn. Very much in the style of Kick-Ass rather than Snatch or Layer Cake. Decent enough 7/10.

I would take the 'based on a true story' part with a pinch of salt though. The guy it's based on was a pure scumbag.

Without giving any plot points away Gilly, does the ending set up for an Insidious 4?

The third chapter is a prequel of sorts, set before the original films at least. The ending does leave an opening to work up to the first film.

Insidious is great. Gilly just likes bad horror films :p

I am partial to shit ones. Sleepaway Camp is ace.

One of the funniest movies I have seen in the past couple of years. Jason Statham is brilliant in it, his performance was my favorite part of the movie.

Heard the Radio 5 review of that today. They said it was formulaic, predictable and obvious. But that makes it work well as an old school disaster flick and it's well worth a watch.

I watched it in 3D today and although it was very predictable, the 3D effects are superb and make it worth watching IMHO. In 2D it wouldn't be very good at all but in 3D, it was well worth it!

Really, I haven't read anything to suggest that other than the fact he was a bit of a gun-waving redneck and some of the stuff in the film was probably a bit exaggerated.

I'm usually put off by romantic movies, they're almost always too contrived and, frankly put, soppy. This was a little different. I saw this on the back of liking the marmite movie Boyhood, and by association Linklater and Ethan Hawke, and once again Linklater does a good job of making a movie about people that seem real, without the need for a Hollywood plot line to actually make the movie interesting. I feel like I shouldn't like it and that I should go and watch Arnie shoot up some shit instead, but I really did. 8.5/10.

The whole trilogy is brilliant.

I'm sure it a scathing yet brilliant critical analysis but, Everything Wrong With Jurassic Park III in 15 minutes or Less? and 16:07 long?

There's always a minute or so of various dicking about at the end of those.

Grand Piano.

Original(ish) concept and a decent enough cast, aside from the ridiculous plot I quite enjoyed it, suppose you just have to take it at face value ;) 7/10.

Nah, not for me. The script was like it was trying to be one of those modern Shakespeare remakes where you have 'normal geezers' saying overly wordy complex monologues and it was just fucking irritating after about 10 minutes. It's also labelled itself a comedy despite the fact I don't think there's a single joke in it if you ignore the lines like 'it looks like a barmaid's snatch after cup final weekend' or 'I'm as steady as a trapeze artist's c***'...neither of which actually make sense as far as I'm aware. After all the bravado it merely then settles into the unoriginal 'bad dad trying to win back his daughter's affection' bollocks. The only real saving grace is that I think Jude Law and Richard E Grant nail their characters really well and it might have actually been decent if the script was written by someone who wasn't shit and the second 50% of the plot was as good as the first 50%.

Robocop -The Remake

As a stand alone film, it's not actually too bad, but in context of the original, the story isn't as good, and there doesn't really seem to be any need for it. If they'd actually remade the original, more polished and that, then perhaps it would have been worthwhile.

Watched 'Gran Torino' on blue ray tonight and expected to hate it.
What a film!! It took on a taboo subject in racism and showed a different slant. The aged Clint Eastwood was excellent and directed it as well.
If you haven't seen it, make sure you do.
8/10. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

It's taken a while but I finally got round to watching The Kings Speech last night, 10/10 from me, even without Helen Bonham Carter I'd rate it 8/10.

Laputa Castle In The Sky [1986]

Seen most of Studio Ghibli's stuff over the years but got this one recommended to me through sheep! It didn't disappoint; thrilling, touching, inventive and very well made as always, this is one of the better Ghibli films. Cant fault it in any way, great fun for all ages.

Watched 2 belters last night....

Nebraska 8.5/10
Cantankerous old buzzard Woody Grant (Bruce Dern) can barely walk down the street of his home in Billings, Mont., without stopping for a drink. So when Woody receives receives a sweepstakes notice in the mail and insists on making a 750-mile trip to Lincoln, Neb., to collect his prize, it falls to baffled son David (Will Forte) to accompany him. During a stop in their Nebraska hometown, word gets out about Woody's fortune, first making him a hero, then later, the target of predatory people.

Sounds shite I hear you say?....Well, it's not.

Mad Max: Fury Road 9/10

I'm not really a fan of explosive 'action' thrillers, but this one had me hooked from the very get go. Brilliant film.

I started watching Nebraska but gave up 15 minutes in. I've only heard good things about it though but I found it a little dull. Maybe I should give it another go.

I really enjoyed Nebraska but it is a bit slow paced (although that fits the setting). For me the best parts are the small town dialogue, a little like Fargo in that respect.

Saw Fargo for the first time the other week, it is excellent.

Chronicle [2012]

Three lads discover something underground that then grants them superpowers. At first they use it for fun, but when one of them who has a difficult home life starts to unravel, a lot of havoc and trouble ensues.

Decent enough, I like the lead guy Andrew a lot (saw him first in In Treatment and he is a terrific young actor). Shot entirely through hand held camera's or on phones, it documents the guys ascension and downfall. One or two missed opportunities short of a very fine film indeed, but not bad overall.

7/10

JK Simmons is perfect in this role. He was the best part of the movie by far.

Great fun, I wanted to watch it in the cinema but didn't but was fantastic, very different to the other stuff with a similar theme.

I quite enjoyed it. It's that braindead, witless, childish humour that resonates with me quite well. 7/10

Watched 'Calvary' the other night. Really good, enjoyed it. Brendan Gleeson is stellar in the main role. It's a strange film but delivers some really strong characters and has some strong acting. Would recommend
