The Equaliser 8/10

Whilst there's a few of these "older hitman" style films out at the moment, I did really enjoy this. I thought Washington played this part to an absolute tee and the action scenes were gory and innovative. Definitely a personal fav.

Watched 'Calvary' the other night. Really good, enjoyed it. Brendan Gleeson is stellar in the main role. It's a strange film but delivers some really strong characters and has some strong acting. Would recommend
Yeah Calvary is very good. Really enjoyed it.

Twenty-Four Eyes [1954]

Japanese film about a teacher and her students experiences for 20-odd years in war-torn Japan. The last scenes were moving and it was ok in its own way, but I felt it was overlong and I couldn't really get into it - maybe I just wasn't in the mood once I'd put it on.

I watched the remake of The Wicker Man starring Nicolas Cage and I can honestly say it's one of the worst films I've ever had the misfortune of watching. Badly acted, terribly written and inappropriately (and I assume accidentally) comedic. This is supposedly a serious film, and at the end Nicolas Cage punches a woman whilst wearing a bear suit. I guess that pretty much sums up the majority of his career.

Truly dreadful film. I actually watched this version before the original and it had put me off from doing so as it was so bad. I'm not sure there's a single redeeming feature about it.

It actually goes beyond the point where it's so bad it's amazing, it manages to be worse than that and returns to just being a completely dog-shite film.

Insidious 3

Just been to the cinema for this. A tricky one to review. It's not as good as the first, let's be clear about that. However, for a 3rd installment, it is decent. It starts a little slow and by 20-30 minutes, I was getting a little worried that the only method of scaring was going to be by large blasts of music when the director wanted you to jump. However, they built the tension quite well after that and there were 1-2 bits that did genuinely make me jump (including the final scene).

As a story, it's solid but not very innovative. It does the job though. There are some nice moments that pay homage to the previous films and a few 'ahhhh' moments that help you make a link with something that happened in the first film.

The ending has been criticised as being weak. I thought it was ok. Not amazing but not bad by any means.

All in all, it was a solid horror film. I'd say Insidious is about an 8. This one would be a 7 for me.

Zombeavers (2014).

Nice breasts and girls in bikinis. Watched in the background and played FM15 at the time. Paused the film at some points.

3/10. Would be less if it weren't for the eye candy.

Recommended for those who like a shit film.

Same category as Sharknado, Nuns with Big Guns and Piranha.

Zombeavers? Who comes up with this stuff?

It can't be as bad as Werewolves v Strippers.

Oh, there's actual beavers? I assumed it was a play on words given the half naked women in the still from that video. I thought it was about undead muff, not zombie beavers.

Nope, actual zombeavers who can infect humans. Look like puppets though. Special effects aren't exactly cutting edge.

Wow, this was a real pleasant surprise. The plot completely played me and the acting was great. I wish more movies were made like this, a real breathe of fresh air.

Alicia Vikander is treacle too, but not just a pretty face, her mannerisms were absolutely spot on. I've not seen much of either Domhnall Gleeson or Oscar Isaac before this movie either, but noticed that both of them were cast in the new Star Wars movie which bodes well.

In my opinion it's watchable. There's no much characters development and when it happens it's a bit "poor" but the action segment is ok.

It's a good action movie but a poor Jurrassic Park film. The plot gets sillier as the film goes on, and the overuse of sub-standard CGI hurts it too. Still, a better watch than II and III.

Standard Hollywood horror affair, rather dull with very little in the way of actual horror. 5/10.

Watchable and fairly enjoyable but by no means great in anyway. A fair few scenes was just me thinking 'rreeeeaaalllllyyyy'

The Sea Inside [2004]

Spanish film with Javier Bardem about a quadriplegic man fighting the state in order to end his life. Well acted and poignant, this film asks a lot of questions about the quality of life of someone who is bed-ridden and can't move; and whether they should be allowed to end it all.
