I don't mind that if its atmospheric, a lot of There Will Be Blood and Assassination Of Jesse James was like that. I'll see, but I'm looking forward to another hammy Di Craprio performance anyway, and Tom Hardy mumbling his way through the film.
This is one film where he doesn't mumble  He actually does a decent southern accent as well.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981)

In a small, southern US farming town a mentally-handicapped man is murdered by a group of men after a misunderstanding about his role in the injuring (at the time mistakenly believed to be death) of a young girl. One by one the killers are targeted and killed off by an unknown force.

I enjoyed this one, captured the small town/vigilante mentality very well. Excellent death scenes and a lot of tension.

Bruce willis plays a cop trying to get a witness played by Mos Def to court to testify against corrupt cops.Thought this was average azt best and Def's voice was grating throughout and i had a job understanding much of what he was saying. 5.5/10.

An impressive casdt of Brad Pitt,Brian Cox,Orlando Bloom and Peter O'Toole. The battle scenes were epic but the dialogue was all wrong which rather spoilt the film a bit. 6.5/10.

They Live (1988)

Rowdy Roddy Piper finds a pair of sunglasses that allows him to see the aliens that control our planet walking among us. He joins an underground resistance movement whose members can also "see". They plan to fight back.

I was expecting a super-cheesy, catchphrase-laden film and it has those moments but it had some serious points to make at the same time - about the uneven distribution of power in America, the power of the media, consumer culture etc.

Having said that my favourite part of the film was a ridiculously long and OTT fight scene between Piper and Keith David.

I,Daniel Blake (2016)
A hard film to watch starring Dave Johns and Hayley Squires. To see how this government treat the sick and disabled is a disgrace, now i have a lot of empathy with the main character having had 5 assessments by so called healthcare professionals who are not knowledgable enough medically to take these tests, every single ti,me they lied but i won my appeal after getting my MP involved. The acting and writing was superb and the portrayal of uncaring Job Centre staff was spot on. I can only give this 10/10.

The music is good and the scene where O'Toole show Pitt what acting is, without even trying, is the pick of the film. The rest of it isn't that great though.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
I'd love to hear what anyone else made of The Greasy Strangler, just to make sure I didn't dream it!!

And I've been watching Attack of the Clones this evening, because that's a rock and roll Saturday night when you are 39, and holy shit it looks terrible. This was made eight years after Jurassic Park and the CGI is just awful in comparison. And that's before you take the utterly awful writing into account.

I downloaded this over the Christmas period but haven't had time to watch it yet. It looks absolutely bizarre from the trailer. Is it worth 90 minutes of my time though (without spoilers)?

With Bill Paxton passing I decided to watch A Simple Plan (1998), as I'd never seen it though always wanted to get round to it. Excellent film it was too, even if you know that the fates of all are pretty much sealed the moment they find the money. Billy Bob Thornton in particular was superb in it as Paxton's idiot brother, but who by the end, has a dignity about him that Paxton's character loses. A simple story, but expertly executed.

Went to see Logan this afternoon and wow, what a great movie! Like was said above it is the perfect farewell to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. One of the best comic book movies I've seen.

I also saw Logan today... and yeah, fantastic film. About my only gripe is the amount of swearing. Now, anybody who's ever read one of my posts likely knows that I probably drop a few too many F-bombs when I post... but I dunno, something just pisses me off in a film like that when they do it that much. It's like "oooooh look, we can make Wolverine and Xavier swear now! LOOK AT US!" so they tried to shove as many fucks in there as they could. Not a single "fuck" in the movie was anywhere near as great as Wolverine telling Xavier and Magneto to go fuck themselves in first class...

Speaking of which, and moving onto the praise, I've always considered First Class to be the best of the Xmen movies, but Logan may well have fucking beaten it. It's pretty fucking dark, gritty, brutal and overall fucking depressing, but my word is it a fucking good film.

Fuck.

Shooter - 2007
Action film with Mark Wahlberg as an ex marines sniper who is wrongly accused of attempting to shoot the USA President with Danny Glover portraying the crooked FBI agent - killings galore, mainly shootings, a few snapped necks and the odd garroting along with a reasonable story line.
7/10 for me.

A typical fucked up horror film from a Clive Barker short story, some creepy scenes and some wtf moments none more so than when a teenager has her face ripped off and afterwards her eyes are blinking  For me Barker is the master of the genre. 8/10.

Phantom (2013)
Starring Ed Harris and David Duchovny among others. A crew of an ageing Russian sub during the cold war take on The KGB officers who want to test out a cloaking device. I enjoyed thkis up to the end which was just plain silly and sentimental tosh. 7/10.
