Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Giving the Ghostbusters remake another shot.

It's not THAT bad. It's not great. It'll never be a classic like the original and would have been better if they hadn't bothered with all the old cast cameos that just jar against the action. There's plenty of callbacks that are more subtle and it could have worked, but just doesn't.

Might go back and watch The Greasy Strangler again.

Yeah, totally agreed on Ghostbusters. Nowhere near the original, but also it's nowhere near worthy of the hate it gets. Most people had already decided that they were going to hate it before a single screenshot was even released and most of the hate probably comes from these people, but generally speaking, any reasonable person who's willing to give it a chance that's seen it usually tends to say that it's absolutely fine.

Had an Alien binge watch:

Alien - 8.5/10
Very good. I can imagine it was awesome when first released. Loved the slow build and the fear through what you couldn't see for most of the film.

Aliens - 9/10
Took the series up a notch. Normally I don't like it when horror turns to action but it worked in this case. Good cast as well.

Alien 3 - 0/10
One of the worst films I've ever seen. Awful start killing off most of the previous film's cast. The setting and cast was horrendous. Dull, boring and pure rubbish.

Alien Resurrection - 5/10
Not a patch on the first two films but this was more fun. Typical formula of the crew getting picked off one by one as they look for an escape. It worked though whilst Winona Ryder was a decent addition. Can't give it higher than 5 though for the sheer absurdity of it all.

Prometheus - 8/10
Didn't think I'd like this but I really did. Some fantastic scenes including the self caesarian. It was an easy watch which opened up new avenues for the future. Good reboot.

I've still only ever seen the first two... part of me wants to keep it that way as I'm very aware that all entries past that point don't live up to those two

Still, very impressed with both of the first two though in how they're completely different films/genres but both do what they do incredibly well.

I'm similar to Oaf in that I've never bothered with 3 or resurrection based on other people's views. To be fair though I didn't watch the Mighty Ducks 3 for years because I'd heard it was rubbish but when I watched it, I found it to be great overall.

It's appalling. What redeeming features does it have?

It's no secret that the production was plagued with problems from the beginning which no doubt had a negative effect on the end product but I think it's far from appalling.

The setting and cast were actually brilliant and, for me, one of the best aspects of the film. Aliens was great but I was happy to see them go back to the basic premise of a small group of people terrorized by one or two monsters than the whole gung-ho action extravaganza that was Aliens. Ripley, the lone heroine of the story, is dropped in amongst a group of convicted murderers and rapists who have been pretty much abandoned by civilization on a desolate rock of a planet. convicts played mostly by a wonderful array of some of the best British talent at the time. The isolation has always been one of the franchises strong points, the knowing that help is very unlikely to come and that our protagonists are on their own against the monsters is one of its main selling points and Alien 3 is only second to the first one in this respect. No weapons, again a nod to the original. How do you kill hard as nails monsters with acid for blood with no weapons? you improvise, you have to figure out how to isolate and kill the monsters using only the meagre tools you have at your disposal, this in turn leads to one of the best parts of the film when Ripley and the cons are using the tunnels of the vast refinery they live in to lure and trap the alien in the furnace where they can kill it. This is much more entertaining and tense than a bunch of heavily armed space marines with a huge arsenal of hi-tech weaponry blowing an endless stream of aliens into oblivion.

A lot of fans really have a hard time with the killing off of Newt and Hicks but I personally couldn't care less that they don't feature here and besides that it all adds to the 'twist' at the centre of the film.

I'm a big fan of the Alien films and 3 is probably my favourite. I don't dispute that the first is the best of the films, or that the second is a hugely entertaining classic of the action genre, but I don't accept that 3 is an appalling film without merit, or that it is in any way dull or rubbish.

Why would you want to root for a group of convicted murderers and rapists? I was rooting for the alien.
Plus, the majority of the cast had shaved heads so it was very difficult to empathise or even get to know most of the characters as they all blended in to generic shaved head man. The only two characters of remote interest, Charles Dance's character and the arsehole prison warden were killed early in the film.

We then discover that Ripley is going to die anyway so that essentially removes any point in rooting for her as we can all then guess that she's going to take the alien down with her.

The other big problem is the alien itself. Compared to the alien in the first film and the queen alien in the 2nd film, this is an extremely modest alien. It's only real threat is it's speed. It doesn't up the ante or produce anything new in any way. It makes me then laugh that despite the threat being speed that many characters appear able to outrun the alien. Bizarre.

The whole thing is depressing, dour dross.

I wasn't rooting for anyone but isn't the central theme of all the films the containment of the alien threat and preventing them getting back to Earth?

Yes, but it doesn't help when the cast is so unlikeable that you wish for the alien to wipe out humanity.

Directed by Mel Gibson this wasn't too bad considering with no anti English agenda but it would be difficult with the film being in The Mayan language  6.8/10.

Hidden Figures - 2016.

A thought provoking film about 3 brilliant African/American women mathematicians who worked for NASA at the time of racial segregation and who were instrumental in launch of John Glenn into space.

8/10 for me.

Finally seen Arrival.

Didn't really know anything about it going in, other than it was a well regarded sci-fi, so was very pleasantly surprised that it was more than that.

Can't really say much about it without spoilers.
