Had a lot of time on my hands last week ,so watched Allen's lunacy in Bananas and then bedded in with the mans take on dating in the more subtle less frantic Play It Again Sam , two films that proffered very different platforms for Allen to flaunt his comedy genius.

its 2020 and the world has recently been ravaged by dragons, discovered during some tunnelling works in London. Christian Bale and a not cool to like at the time Matthew McConaughey star in this survivors by numbers flick. the effects are so so but havent aged well 5.10

Shifty (2008) 7/10

In many ways Shifty is largely notable for the performance of Riz Ahmed, an interesting actor who is well on his way to becoming a decent British-Asian movie star. A good solid watch about a young man firmly embroiled in the suburban North London drug trade falls foul of the heavy handed locals. An old school pal, plagued by his own bad memories of the city, does his utmost to put him onto a different track. Starring Riz Ahmed, Daniel Mays, Jason Flemyng, Jay Simpson, Dannielle Brent and Francesca Annis.

The Rise (2012) 8/10

This was a well made British crime thriller which is a smart and gutsy effort bolstered by a strong cast. Basically it's about a robbery of a working men's club where a local drug dealer keeps his money supposedly committed by Harvey and his three best mate's, a good twist to the tale which certainly kept me guessing. It was entertaining to watch it all pan out. Starring Luke Treadaway, Timothy Spall, Matthew Lewis, Iwan Rheon, Neil Maskell, Vanessa Kirby and Gerard Kearns.

Nowhere as good as the first film although the last 20 minutes were pretty brutal as you'd expect 6.8/10.

Based on the true story of Captain Chesley Sullenberger who landed a damaged airliner in The Hudson River in 2009 with 155 passengers on board. 8/10.

I watched this last night and I thought it was really good. Pretty scary and jumpy in parts and the way they build the tension is brilliant. Considering there isn't much talking it was really good and heartfelt.

I felt the ending was a bit rushed though

Also, a shotgun killed it anyway so haven't they thought about just shooting the fuckers?

I think this film surprised the hell out of everyone when it proved not only a financial success, but a critical one too with the film one of the best releases of 2016. I really enjoyed Don't Breathe, and i think the ending also shows it has a sequel in mind.

In which Stephen Lang has confirmed that he will be reprising his role in Don't Breathe 2. Probably might get a teaser sometime during the summer 2019?

Tony (2009) 8/10

Remarkable performance from Peter Ferdinando as Tony an unemployed eccentric serial killer. There's been many films in which serial murderers are terrifying geniuses, it's sobering to discover Tony a total loser who kills people that in a sense no one really cares about, and creeps under the official radar. Starring Peter Ferdinando, Frank Boyce, Lorenzo Camporese, Francis Pope and George Russo.


The Proposition (2005) 9/10

Quite a brutal savage western set in the Australian outback, I must say the brilliance of this movie makes it a masterpiece. Guy Pierce and all the actors fit in to their roles, the actors invest their characters with human details all the scarier because they scarcely seem human themselves. Highly recommend this electrifying gem of a western. Starring Guy Pearce, Ray Winstone, Richard Wilson, Emily Watson, Danny Huston, John Hurt and David Wenham.

The Thompsons (2012) 2/10

I only watched this movie because Elizabeth Henstridge (Agents of Shield) was in it. Ultimately only one of the characters is particularly likeable so by the time the final showdown comes around it's difficult to care who triumphs. Starring Cory Knauf, Samuel Child, Joseph McKelheer, Mackenzie Firgens, Ryan Hartwig and Elizabeth Henstridge.

Trick 'r Treat (2007) 7/10

This is a good movie and makes me think about other great gems that may be slumbering in the deep archives of studios and never see the light of day. A bit of a surprise this one. Starring Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker, Leslie Bibb, Tahmoh Penikett and Moneca Delain.

Upgrade (2018) 8/10

This was great sci-fi about a man whose wife is killed during a brutal mugging that also left him paralyzed, has an experimental cure to upgrade his body and sets out to claim vengeance, could be destined to be a cult classic. Starring Logan Marshall-Green, Betty Gabriel, Harrison Gilbertson, Linda Cropper, Richard Cawthorne and Christopher Kirby.

The Reader (2008) 7/10

The film opens in post-WWII Germany with a teenage boy having a secret affair with a woman who is twice his age with a lot of secrets, who mysteriously disappears one day and the teenager is left confused and heartbroken. A decent drama movie. Starring Kate Winslet, Ralph Fiennes, David Kross, Lena Olin, Bruno Ganz and Matthias Habich.

The Heat (2013) 8/10

This was a pretty decent female buddy cop action-comedy which starred Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock as a mismatched pairing of a foul-mouthed Boston cop and a condescending FBI investigator who try to take down a mobster. Quite funny and entertaining. Starring Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthy, Demian Bichir, Marlon Wayans, Michael Rapaport and Jane Curtin.

The Siege (1998) 7/10

One of the more surprising and intelligent films I've seen, the film is a political thriller which relies more on plot and double-crosses than explosions, which for the most part is a good idea. If your looking for action you maybe disappointed by the somewhat slow pacing and lack of big booms. But overall a very good film. Starring Denzel Washington, Annette Bening, Bruce Willis, Tony Shalhoub, Sami Bouajila and David Proval.

Annihilation (2018) 7/10

This is not an easy film to talk about. It's a movie that will have a different meaning to different viewers who are willing to engage with it. Without going into much detail i thought the ending was very frustrating, but still pretty decent with the recent wave of sci-fi films, it's one to watch out for. Starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Oscar Isaac, Tuva Novotny and Bern Collaco.

The 13th Warrior (1999) 5/10

Not too bad a film for the most part it delivers the goods. It sometimes impresses but never really soars. Starring Antonio Banderas, Diane Venora, Dennis Storhoi, Vladimir Kulich and Omar Sharif.

The Number 23 (2007) 3/10

The film is a bit of a let down by a complicated plot in which nothing really happens. The result is neither a strong psychological study of its lead character, nor a compelling edgy thriller. All ultimately very boring and a big disappointment considering those involved. Starring Jim Carey, Virginia Madsen, Logan Lerman, Rhona Mitra and Danny Huston.

The Glass Shield (1994) 6/10

The film is about a first black recruit in his squad, the rookie cop struggles to adapt to life on the force when confronted by the deep-root prejudices and corruption of his precinct. Starring Michael Boatman, Lori Petty, Erich Anderson and Thomas Babson.

12 Strong (2018) 7/10

Pretty decent film, i thought it was okay, story follows the first U.S. troops sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission to fight the Taliban. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Pena, Trevante Rhodes and Navid Negahban.

American Me (1992) 9/10

Very powerful movie and a well written one, with a great performance from Olmos as the main character. I'd say probably this is one of the best gangster film's that I've ever come across. Definitely recommend. Starring. Edward James Olmos, William Forsythe, Pepe Serna and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa.

Darfur (2009) 6/10

Not sure what to make of this one, pretty slow movie at times. It was pretty grim set in 2005 in Sudan with umpteen villages getting torched and butchered and absolutely massacred. No good if your a bit squeamish, very entertaining movie. Starring Billy Zane, Edward Furlong, Kristanna Loken and David O'Hara.

First Snow (2007) 6/10

Not a bad psychological thriller, about a man haunted by his past played by Guy Pearce who is outstanding in this film. Enjoy the trip to the dark side. Starring Guy Pearce, Piper Perabo, William Fichtner and J.K. Simmons.

Gamer (2009) 5/10

Plenty of sci-fi action in this film, about some prisoners sent into battle, with one warrior, Kable played by Gerard Butler, close to winning his freedom through repeated combat zone victory, and sets off to find his wife. Starring Gerard Butler, Zoe Bell, Milo Ventimiglia, Alison Lohman and Michael C. Hall.

Ambush At Dark Canyon (2012) 1/10

Not wishing to say too much, for me i found this film absolutely dreadful to watch. Starring Andrew W. Walker, Ernie Hudson and Sydney Penny.

Beautiful Creatures (2013) 5/10

Not a bad romantic supernatural Twilight'y type of movie, a bit of young love blooming in a southern small-town. It's warmed over Twilight, with witches instead of vamps. Starring Alice Englert, Alden Ehrenreich, Emma Thompson, Viola Davis and Emily Rossum.

Black Sheep (1996) 6/10

A decent film in which produced many good laughs as well as generally being consistently funny throughout. About two brothers one running for governor and the other keeps messing up for his brother, worth a view. Starring Chris Farley, David Spade, Tim Matheson and Christine Ebersole.

Blackthorn (2011) 6/10

I enjoyed this film i thought the story was well-acted by Sam Shephard. The cinematography was pretty awesome, not very often you see the likes of Bolivia in western style movies. Starring Sam Shephard, Eduardo Noriega, Stephen Rea, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Padraic Delaney.

Head In The Clouds (2004) 7/10

Good romantic drama film set in war torn Paris with an effective story and a great performance from (Charlize Theron). Starring Charlize Theron, Penelope Cruz, Stuart Townsend, Thomas Kretschmann and Steven Berkoff.

Hitman (2007) 6/10

This film probably might not be the best game to film adaptation yet made, but It's an enjoyable decent enough watch. They are several nasty deaths throughout, whether or not that's bloody enough for fans of the game remains to be seen. Starring Timothy Olyphant, Olga Kurylenko, Ulrich Thomsen, Dougray Scott and Robert Knepper.

Arctic (2019) 7/10

If you are a fan of Mikkelsen, or if you want to see a good drama, or a reasonably good film. Arctic is the one it's a solid emotional experience, that's definitely worth a view. Starring Mads Mikkelsen and Maria Thelma Smaradottir.

Atomic Blonde (2017) 8/10

What a mind blowing movie this one is. Theron's commanding performance is remarkable!
Her take no bull body language and calculating stare give her character an intelligence and prove she's the right person for the job. Starring Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, Sofia Boutella, John Goodman, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan and Bill Skarsgard.

Bullet To The Head (2012) 5/10

A typical 80s style revenge action film, Stallone plays a hit-man in New Orleans, who goes by the unfortunate nickname of Jimmy Bobo. Starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Momoa, Sung Kang, Christian Slater, Sarah Shahi and Jon Seda.

Brothers (2009) 7/10

I'd say this was Tobey Maguire's best performance. A really good film truly astonishing performance about a marine who gets shipped out to Afghanistan and presumed missing in action. Starring Tobey Maguire, Mare Winningham , Sam Shepard, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman.

The Vanishing (2018) 8/10

This film is surprisingly good, keeps you on the edge the whole time. It's basically based on the flannan Isle disappearances in 1900, in which three lighthouse keepers went missing. Definitely worth a view. Starring Connor Swindells, Emma King, Gerard Butler, Gary Lewis and Peter Mullan.

The Mule (2018) 7/10

Another decent film from the maestro himself Clint Eastwood. Probably not one of his greatest movies but at the ripe old age of around 88 he certainly pulls it off with ease. Based on a true story with Eastwood unfortunately finding himself working as a mule for a drug cartel. Starring Alison Eastwood, Patrick L. Reyes, Cesar De Leon, Clint Eastwood and Gustavo Munoz.

The Veteran (2011) 7/10

An impressive performance from Toby Kebbell as a disenchanted ex-paratrooper returning from the middle east to his bleak, run down South London estate to become trapped between drug-dealers and men involved in the war against terror. Starring Toby Kebbell, Adi Bielski, Tony Curran, Brian Cox and Tom Brooke.

Mary Shelley (2018) 5/10

She'll best no doubt for being remembered as the woman as a writer that gave us Frankenstein one of the greatest novels ever written. The film basically celebrates Mary Shelley for the pioneering woman that she is. Starring Elle Fanning, Bel Powley, Owen Richards, Joanne Froggatt and Stephen Dillane.

Just back from a showing at the local Odeon and lets just say out of the 15 people there around 5 had left before the end.

I had read semi decent reviews but the fact that the main lead got attacked by an alligator twice. Once with her arm in its mouth with it death rolling yet she managed to break free and soon after managed to climb onto the roof of the house with no considerable injury made me laugh out loud . Earlier on the same happened to her leg , yet she walked around without any problem. The same with her father. You would have to see to believe it,

Den Of Thieves (2018) 7/10

A decent heist movie, and the action sequences are without a doubt entertaining and the performances by everyone are pretty solid. So yes i would definitely give the film a thumbs up. Starring Gerard Butler, Pablo Schreiber, O'Shea Jackson Jr, 50 Cent, Meadow Williams and Dawn Olivieri.

Funny Games (2008) 9/10

I thought this psychological thriller was absolutely brilliant, starts of slowly and builds up into a quite disturbing movie. A great performance from Naomi Watts and all the other characters are very well played. This one is edge of the seat stuff! Starring Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Michael Pitt, Brady Corbet and Devon Gearhart.

Deadman Standing (2018) 6/10

Low budget western which ended up being fairly entertaining, with an interesting true story and a really good cast, about a widowed lawman who befriends a boy dying of tuberculosis and a madam of the town brothel. Starring C. Thomas Howell, Viva Bianca, Luke Arnold and M.C. Gainey.

Come And Find Me (2016) 5/10

Not a great film but was worth a watch with Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) as the main lead. As a man bewildered by the unexplained disappearance of his girlfriend when she drops off the grid. Starring Aaron Paul, Annabelle Wallis, Garret Dillahunt, Chris Chalk, Zachary Knighton and Terry Chen.

Watched the new Child's Play the other night. It's a lot better than I thought it'd be, which is nice because the trailer looked bobbins. Doesn't mean it was amazing though. It's gory and Mark Hammil was very good as Chucky, it just didn't really have the Child's Play feel I was hoping to get, the whole Android going crazy thing doesn't sit well, they'd have been better off just doing a rip-off version of Child's Play and calling it something else. 6/10.

The Clovehitch Killer (2018) 6/10

I quite enjoyed this movie. I wouldn't say it was scary, a couple of chilling scenes. I thought the movie was entertaining throughout and also had a decent ending. Starring Charlie Plummer, Dylan McDermott, Samantha Mathis and Madisen Beaty.

The Debt Collector (2018) 6/10

A decent entertaining martial arts action flick. The action and fight scenes are absolutely terrific, basically about a martial arts school being saved from the clutches of the bad guys. Starring Scott Adkins, Louis Mandylor, Vladimir Kulich, Tony Todd and Selina Lo.

The President's Man: A Line In The Sand (2002) 2/10

I don't mind Chuck Norris but this one was awful. About a military specialist who is assigned by the president to track down a terrorist who is planning to cause havoc with a nuclear device, not great. Starring Chuck Norris, Judson Mills, Jennifer Tung and Roxanne Hart.

The Basketball Diaries (1995) 8/10

A pretty inspiring movie with a very young DiCaprio at his finest. It's a very realistic look at what drug addiction can do to a person. A good story about a young lad who has a passion for basketball, unfortunately that doesn't materialize. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lorraine Bracco, James Madio, Patrick McGaw and Mark Wahlberg.

Citizen X (1995) 8/10

This one is based on the real investigation of Soviet serial killer Andrei Chikatilo and doesn't disappoint, first rate piece of acting and filmmaking. With the horrible psychological cost of the manhunt, and incompetence in allowing this serial killer to cause mayhem over the course of more than a decade. Starring Stephen Rea, Donald Sutherland, Joss Ackland, Max Von Sydow, Imelda Staunton and Jeffrey DeMunn.

Dr Sleep was excellent. Bit long - 3 hours. First hour was a bit confusing but all came together later. Probably best if you’ve seen The Shining previously.

The Sacrament - Ti West

The only "films" of Ti West I've seen is his section in The ABC's Of Death and V/H/S so I wasn't too sure what to expect. It's another "found footage" film - I'm fed up to the back teeth with these, they need to leave them alone for a while - that follows a news team into a cult style closure to find a sister of one of the said team. Everyone seems pretty happy....or do they?! It's a pretty standard horror, I guess. Nothing spectacular, nothing really terrible. I do have The Innkeepers on the Sky box...not sure if to bother watching it.

A film for people who like silence. Yes, there is a lot of action and the film keeps the viewer in suspense - but most of the time is talking and traveling (which is normal for the world that is presented in the film).
The film is about a father and son trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.
