Like has already been said, very much a game of two halves. First half we were sloppy and possibly fortunate to be level. Second half though i thought we were brilliant and bossed it, just a shame we didn't carve out that one golden chance to put the game to bed as you sort of knew their goal was coming (purely because it's seems to happen to us quite regularly!)

A decent enough result though against a fancied side. We're making real steps forward now and look a different team to how we did only 3 or 4 weeks ago. Play like we did in the second half today for remainder of the season then we'll have absolutely nothing to worry about regarding league position come May.

Jack Lester......i love you.

Good game, they had 1st half we had 2nd. First time I have ever seen a home team let flares off- hilarious tin pot behaviour which emphasises the fact it really was a massive deal for you lot

Don't delude yourself, let's not have this again. It was big for both sides as its a derby. Nothing more nothing less.

As for the game, looking back at it, just where did that Mansfield performance come from? It was utterly dreadful in the 2nd half and out of chatactor for how we've play of late.

Mellis went missing in the 2nd half, and the continued long balls which didn't work throughout the game were annoying to say the least. Whenever we actually passed the ball the Chesterfield defence didn't have a clue - which was obvious early on - why didn't we go for them in this fashion?. We just persavered with the long ball.

Pleasing to get a point though in the end, was barely warranted

Yeah decent game overall...

Mansfield need a new ground, it looks tired and very poorly looked after judging by the state of the away end. Finally, the PA system is an absolute joke, I've heard better in the Central Midlands League.

Well I hope that we aren’t responsible for that :err:

Your performance came from the fact we battered you and you couldn’t cope with the football we played. Your first half performance wasn’t a patch on our second.

We actually had far, far more chances to score and really should of been a couple up within the first half a hour.

When Chesterfield scored the second it was (bar a freak shot) the second chance for them.

That being said, in the second half I don’t think we won a single 50:50 and spent most of the half jogging around while they ping it about taking the piss at times, it was the most abysmal performance I have seen by Mansfield for a long, long time. The amount of space we gave in our half was embarrassing.

You can see why they are around the bottom though, very suspect defence and a lack of quality, a team with more quality would have made the scoreline embarrassing for Mansfield.

Can’t say much though, because we lacked it big time yesterday and as per usual we’re not clinical enough when on top.

The football you played was very impressive. I still think we should have done more to combat it though. It was obvious that we were outnumbered in midfield. As soon as it was clear that Rose wasn't going to win anything against either centre back you'd have hoped we'd put an extra man in midfield and our keeper would started to bowl the ball short as yours was doing. Individual performances i.e Byrom, Hamilton and Rose were shocking but it was very poor tactically in my opinion. The long ball was playing right into your hands.

They were right though, why keep lumping it up to the forwards when it kept coming back.

Had we played like/how we did Tuesday we'd have gone and won at a canter. It was a problem of our own creation. Again, not taking anything away from Chesterfield.

How do you know you’d have won at a canter? You played ok in the first half and your lot seemed happy enough with the performance but like I said we played by far the better football and you couldn’t handle us second half. You do knock it long quite a lot don’t you? We are a completely different side from just over a month ago and I genuinely believe we will be no where near the relegation zone come January , we’ve played much better sides than you in last couple of weeks and got points. Unfortunately it seems your manager and players made the same mistake as your fans made and expected the early season Caldwell side to turn up.

Thing is being honest, we've played much better sides than you and won,
The football you played was purely down to our inept second half performance allowing you to do so, others have tried to "ping it about " but we've usually nullified that and started to ping about ourselves of late in clinical fashion,
I just can't believe how poor a lot of players played second half .. it was baffling as I expected more of the same from how we finished the first half, I expected us to improve,
To play football you need space without closing down we allowed you space and didn't even try the latter. Baffling

Being honest tho you are a long ball side. You didn’t perform how you wanted because we didn’t let you. Shame for you really , you turned up in decent numbers for a change because you for once felt confident you’d demolish us and you came up short , I can tell how disappointed you all are that our shiteness only lasted a few months. You wanted so much for us to be awful and we just weren’t. We will no doubt finish comfortable in mid table this season build for next season and be one of the favourites for promotion.

So, it seems Mansfield weren't as good as their fans thought they'd be whilst Chesterfield were as good as their fans thought they'd be.

Either way I guess both sides will be happy with the result. A Mansfield mate and I both said we'd welcome a point when speaking on Friday.

Barring some sort of scorched earth policy from our exiting owner I expect us to rise away from the drop zone. For their part MTFC can get back to focussing on a play off push.

Meanwhile an eerie silence descends over no man's land...

I think there was an element of let's have a look at Chesterfield, as would have been the same the other way round.

However, derbies don't work like that, when we won 1-0 at the Prozac - or whatever it's call - we were battered and didn't deserve the win, Chesterfield will have expected to win that day, and didn't. I'd be encouraged on the pitch for sure, and progress will be made if the off-field goings on don't interfere too much

What was poor about us is that we kept doing the same thing.all game, it was evident that evatt was going to eat up the long balls all afternoon and we did nothing to combat that. His insistence of playing the longball all game when we were productive with the few passing moves we made was annoying.

Chesterfield won't go down on that showing, and with some decent midfielders playing those tactics they'll be just fine.

From our perspective, to play that badly and still get something from the game is encouraging - especially after 4 straight wins and keeps the run going to 10 games.

Home to guiseley next week in the fa cup, which gives us a good chance to get through to the 3rd ound

You can’t compare the 1-0 at the Prozac, purely because although they dominated that day and we won, defensively we were absolutely brilliant.

Looking back at the highlights we really should of put that game to bed in the first 30, I’m still fuming about that second half performance though.

10 unbeaten though, and surely we can’t perform that badly again.

Let's not get into a text argument, my points are honest and realistic, we didn't turn up in the second half which contributed to you playing some nice football... and let's also be honest, I can't remember a shot a decent chance being created by pinging the ball about in Midfield and spreading it wide??.. it ended at that because not one decent cross came in ? Or did you create something from it?,
My original post stands... we have let ourselves down by not carrying on getting better in the game as we've done last 8 or so games, we remain 10 unbeaten we have a good squad and we are in the best hands we've been in as long as I can remember, our future looks potentially impressive and long may it continue, you may survive, I think you will,
But let's just leave it there because we can't predict promotions next year or whatever, that just screams immaturity.

I think it's a bit misleading to say the game should have been done 30 minutes in. Mansfield were the better side that's for sure, but other than shots from outside the area, there weren't any gilt edged chances there. No clearances off the line, incredible saves. It sounded to me that draw going in was probably about right - as Mansfield were the better team but we matched you and other than the 2 goals there were no massive chances for either side. The 2nd half we upped the tempo, pressed a lot higher up the pitch and hunted the ball in numbers. We just didn't let Mansfield play any sort of game, and not knowing what to do, they resorting to hopelessly punting it up. Dennis could have got himself one or two, it was just missing that 3rd goal you know was always going to hurt us. It goes 3-1 and that's game right there.

As an aside though, are you not embarrassed by Evans antics on the touchline? Constantly trying to bully the 4th official, gesticulating about the most innocuous thing. Effing and jeffing all the time. I bet sometimes that sort of behaviour works if you don't have a strong ref. he'd be sent to the stands after 2 minutes if I was reffing. I know he's your manager, but jesus christ I don't know how you put up with watching that every week - i'd be cringing.

The second half was easily the best since Cookie left, we kept the ball superbly and in the brief moments of Mansfield possession we won it back easily

I wish the chant of "Do you want another ball" had taken off

Evans digging out his players again....

Who were the "big" players he was referring to?

He was talking about Bryom, Mellis and Rose, which is fair because they all disappeared in the second half.

Bryom and Mellis in centre midfield literally did not do one good thing in the second half.

Might of been unfair to say that looking back, but we literally looked like scoring every time we went forward in that first half, your defence was all over the place.

I honestly don’t think Chesterfield ‘Tempo’ or chasing the balls in numbers had too much to do with how abysmal we were, our lads were not up for it, I don’t think we won a single 50/50 in the entire second half. I’m not saying that to take credit away from Chesterfield either, it was just a genuine awful performance and like I said, if we played somebody with quality it would of been a embarrassment of a scoreline, I do agree overall a draw was a fair result and we can count ourselves quite lucky.

Regarding Evans, It’s annoying if you take notice but I generally focus on the game so it’s not really a problem for me.

That's not inaccurate, had we played a top, decent side we'd have been battered given that 2nd half showing. It's easily the worst of the season IMO - annoying we save it for these guys. Same goes with the amount of long balls we played which clearly didn't work

So would it be fair to say then a decent side would have finished us off in the first half when you were on top? Especially considering you looked like scoring everytime you went forward?

We are a decent side, but yeah not clinical enough is the main reason why we are only in the play-offs and not the automatic spots.
